Inspired by our reminiscenses about block heeled court shoes on another thread and my misty recollections about working in Next, what did you used to wear? To work, especially

Lots o' Navy

Lots of gilt buttons, and BURGUNDY. Mucho burgundy. And bodies! ARGGH bodies. I had a peach one IIRC. Pale 10 denier tights

Yes a trollop with the core of a nun

AphraBehn · 04/04/2012 14:33

We probably did MissBeehiving. I've still got the top, could fit one arm into it now.

noddyholder · 04/04/2012 14:34

i loved this seems odd now!

AphraBehn · 04/04/2012 14:35

Remember when Kylie did 'Step back in Time'? That's when 70s style hot pants came back in.

I seem to remember my club wear being very trollopy but daytime stuff was quite conservative.

AphraBehn · 04/04/2012 14:36

I love this thread. I love the 90s. Might have to watch a bit of Friends.

I was a teenager for the first half of the 90's & was obsessed with Rimmel's Black Cherry lipstick. I also had a perm that I used to wet scrunch with lots of mousse! :o
I think my wardrobe staple were bodies & my purple wallabies (can't remember the type of trousers I wore) & I did buy a lot of my clothes at Camden market.
I do remember wearing a floral shirt & stone washed denim dungarees at one poit though! Blush

OracleInaCoracle · 04/04/2012 14:40

oooh, heather shimmer lipstick and dewberry/white musk perfume!

WannaBeWildCosMyLifesSoTame · 04/04/2012 14:47

Oh yes sheer/mesh tops over a Wonderbra, I used to wear this a lot - trouble is I am a 36E so I generally looked like I had an arse strapped to my chest or was smuggling the 2 blokes from Right Said Fred - not really the look I was going for.

Mind you, big norks in a Wonderbra = handy place to rest your pint/stash your fags :)

BenderBendingRodriguez · 04/04/2012 14:49

am going to go back and read the whole thread at leisure, but can i just say (before i forget): lots of tops that clearly showed my bra. e.g. sheer sparkly tshirts with black or red wonderbra underneath, and best of all, a man's navy blue string vest in which the net was this wide.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 04/04/2012 14:49

obviously didn't wear those work though.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 04/04/2012 14:49

ffs x-post Blush

Astr0naut · 04/04/2012 14:54

I'm glad the fashion for showing your bra was when I was young - and pre dcs! Had lovely boobs in the 90s.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 04/04/2012 15:17

Me too. Likewise the crop top/long skirt combo - thank goodness that was pre-DC for me Grin

Yes to ubiquitous black bootcut trousers; I also had some gorgeous blue moleskin hipsters that I wore to death until I got too fat to fit in them they got chewing gum stuck on the arse.

I was a teenager for most of the 90s so there was lots of ravewear for me: backless/halterneck/bra tops, ribbed vests, hotpants or A-line minis with knee boots. My favourite A-line mini was made of curtain fabric, sewn by then-boyfriend's mum. She also made, at my request, a miniskirt out of fluorescent orange PVC stuff that gave her a headache as she sewed.

Army boots, DMs, Converse-a-likes (low top of course). Lots of massive shoes: I had a pair of Swears very like these and a pair of fabulous platform sandals that I used to wear with a leopard print A-line skirt and silky black camisole top.

Too much nostalgia Blush

piratecat · 04/04/2012 15:24

oh yes fag packet in your bra!!!

Dolcegusto · 04/04/2012 15:27

I had a black lace crocheted dress that I wore with a wonder bra and big pants.

victorialucas · 04/04/2012 15:29

Sticking the tongue out of trainers.

Hair scrunchies.

Waistcoats.

Sun in.

cybbo · 04/04/2012 15:37

OMG I had hot pants. Black and white tweed ones. They were about 4 foot wide if I laid them on the bed

noddyholder · 04/04/2012 15:38

Me too!

Stilla · 04/04/2012 15:43

Ewww the mere mention of dewberry makes me feel ill - but how I loved it in the early 90's !

mrsebojones · 04/04/2012 15:47

Oh, I have loved reading this thread Grin
To give some idea, I was 14 in 1990
I was an indie kid and thought I was as cool as Wink
wardrobe:
Doc Martens
Battered converse
Denim shorts with opaque tights
leggings
'James' T-shirts (about 3 sizes too large was de rigeur)
Other 'indie' band printed t-shirts
flared jeans
charity shop velvet jacket
friendship bands

cronsilksilt · 04/04/2012 15:47

god I had a pair of shorts like short trousers (eww) and I wore them with tights, a body and a waistcoat Blush

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 15:49

I also had black crushed velvet hotpants, god i loved them and thought i was chocolate in them
Also wore a catsuit to go out clubbing on 'the boat' which im sure lots of you went on during its heyday.

Dewberry was nasty, all those body shop things we loved though, white musk anyone? Or a spray of lou lou or poison

cronsilksilt · 04/04/2012 15:50

lou lou - my sister still wears that Grin also anais anais and ysatis

cybbo · 04/04/2012 15:53

My mate had a knitted red wool catsuit with a gold zip that she used to sashay round the univeristy library in

I think I wore my trousers too short for most of the 90's. there may have been some tapering going on too
