I absolutely do not work-in fashion but have worked along side it. I am way too scruffy and fat to work in that world although sadly many of my close friends do and I frequent these do's from time to time especially in the summer. Linen trousers are not a no no at all amongst these women aged up to flipping 75! Before you mock dogs by have another look at that uniqlo t shirt Grin

Wow didn't know cross forum slagging off was de rigeur having never done it myself. Crazy. Now I know what twitter is for I am rather disappointed.

messybessie · 18/05/2011 07:49

Dogsby, I thought of you this morning as I put on my White stuff leggings and Fat Face dress.

It is a cliche, but surely all fashion is a cliche, that's the point. Being individual isn't the aim of the game, otherwise there would be no fashion industry. Therefore we all just choose which particular cliche to belong to.

The reason Ff, WS, Boden etc al do so well as a business, is because they target busy women who haven't the time or the inclination to care about what they wear, but want to look half decent. It's the 'no mental effort' option. I have little enough free time without spending spare weekends trawling through shops looking for 'this season's key pieces'.

But that's no more of a cliche than the group of women desperately pouring over magazines discussing what size their handbags should be, or the rolled up with wedges brigade.

Although I now realise I do not belong on style and beauty threads Blush

moondog · 18/05/2011 08:03

How droll to observe that 'fashion' now has a life of its own with people 'working alongside it'. Do you share water cooler moments with it and talk about your weekend?

I do wish people would stop saying 'de rigeur'
It's 'de rigueur'.

BeattieBow · 18/05/2011 08:39

aren't thick wide legged linen trousers ok? I have some in black and have just got some from Jigsaw in grey for work. (haven't decided whether to keep them yet).

Today am wearing 7/8 though with high wedges and look good (I think, and dh even complimented me so can't be bad!)

And what Uniqlo tee-shirt? I have never bought anything from there, but feel that I ought to...

rockinout · 18/05/2011 09:32

Thanks for the spelling correction. My work has crossed into fashion so how else can I say it? I think liking linen trousers is a minor offence for thecslagging I am getting on twitter for this. I didn,t realise discussing threads and people like that was de rigueur. Especially people I have liked and defended in the pastSad

moondog · 18/05/2011 09:44

Lighten up Rocking.
'Tis de rigueur in frivolous bitchy world of gladrags. Wink

LadyWord · 18/05/2011 10:15

Oh no! We were thinking about getting a campervan!

LadyWord · 18/05/2011 10:18

However I would add that with WS and Boden etc, there's buying into the look totally, and there's selecting carefully. I avoid the items (shite I nearly said "pieces" there too much reading -Grazia) that scream "I'm a stretchy patterned WS tunic from WHITE STUFF" or "Booooooden, Booooden garish-- "sassy" cardigan over here". I like some of their stuff but mainly more unusual things that suit my style which is a bit different. You can choose not to be a WS etc. clone.

LadyWord · 18/05/2011 10:20

Oh and the other thing is I am actually looking for some really nice jogging bottoms. I think they will be the next big thing in fact. :)

wubblybubbly · 18/05/2011 14:42

I shall be wearing my linen trousers tunics and crocs this summer and not give a flying fuck.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/05/2011 15:22

what a load of tosh OP - mine are black and very well cut and my bottom is certainly not saggy - better than seeing tattooed calves in capri pants any day

wubblybubbly · 18/05/2011 15:36

My bottom is about the only thing that isn't saggy MAS!

Hope you're well.

Pagwatch · 18/05/2011 15:39

I don't wear any trousers as my arse is hippo like.
And I think it is de rigger. Or de rugger.
I like my fashion manly

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/05/2011 16:12

hello wubbly-am fine,you ?

wubblybubbly · 18/05/2011 16:45

Not bad thanks MAS, it's spread unfortunately, but I'm feeling good and keeping fingers crossed that these lastest drugs keep it under control.

(sorry for the hijack)

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/05/2011 18:04

Sad wubbly -you take care -sorry for hijack
