capri pants are so 40-something trying to be stylish imho.

Much rather see baggy linen troos with a lovely top and a pair of converse...

more relaxed and not trying too hard :)

FrameyMcFrame · 17/05/2011 18:50

Oh and who is Anne Harvey????

Dogsby · 17/05/2011 18:53

its a cliche though framey

Things tend to be cliched for a reason, ie they work for the people that wear them.

I refuse to accept that a pear-shaped woman with stumpy legs, thunder thighs and cankles will look better in any type of cropped trouser than she would in a White Stuff A-line skirt and long boots (if indeed she can find a pair that fit over her thunderous calves). Or a pair of fitted at the waist wide leg trousers (linen or not).

Admittedly, it would be nice if someone other that White Stuff would make stuff AS STANDARD that suits the thunderous of thigh though, as I'm getting v bored of it.

Meggles76 · 17/05/2011 19:33

would it not be rather dull if we were all a size 6 and dressed in capri pants Grin Much better that we all dress to flatter out different bodies and wear what we feel comfortable in - even if it is a linen trouser!

BelovedCunt · 17/05/2011 19:36

personally i would torch every white stuff and fat face shop in britain.

dexter73 · 17/05/2011 19:38

You can torch White stuff but can you leave fat face as I love it!

BelovedCunt · 17/05/2011 19:40

they are basically the same shop

dexter73 · 17/05/2011 19:41

No they are really different. White stuff is all quirky a line skirts but fat face is more jeans and shirts.

ggirl · 17/05/2011 19:44

trouble with white stuff is people tend to wear it head to toe
look like they've walked out of a white stuff window set
sticks out a mile

BelovedCunt · 17/05/2011 19:47

but i guess if you buy one whitestuff tunic it is a spiral of fashion intervention. you NEED teh wooden jewellry and 10 years out of date skirt

dexter73 · 17/05/2011 19:51

I own a vest from White stuff and that is it. Just not my thing. Tunics do nothing for me, mind you neither do capri trousers or linen trousers. I just don't get cropped trousers - what is the point of them?

Rolled chinos etc area fashion thing though. They looked good last summer and this but probably won't beyond that as they are a nod to the 80s for the middle aged mummy! Linen trousers are a classic item that you can always pull out like a Burberry mac or frye boots. Well cut and good quality is the way to go. There are some awful thin cheap ones which are not attractive but decent ones always look good.

MordechaiVanunu · 17/05/2011 20:25

I love capris and have bought two pairs this year. They are very flattering to my small hips and flatten my stomach.

BUT I am in between leg waxes so need summer type trousers that cover the whole leg. What to do??

I have navy cotton wide legs high waisted tews in a sailor type style.

I also have v nice white linen trousers which are a very thick and heavy linen (expensive they were) very fitted on the hips and flaring to a very wide flare. I believe them to be chic. So ner.

Sometimes though you do want the crumpled lived in, just kicking back, chillin, and not giving an arse about my clothes way. ( like you when you on a boardwalk for a boden photoshootHmm). Linen trousers and pumps the stylish non try hard way to do this imo.

Rolled up crops with high heels?? I think not dearie.

rockinout · 17/05/2011 20:40

Heavy linen trousers lovely. Rolled cropped trousers with heels has been the yummy mummy uniform for a good few summers now me included. But the most stylish woman I have seen in a while (fashion writer) was wearing White linens with a smokey grey colour thin long relaxed vest with long strands of beads. She looked stunning amongst the sea of gap rolled chinos with striped t shirt and m and s wedges. I also love crumpled linen with pumps/ plimsolls and lovely t shirts. I have a lot of friends working in fashion and mums net is the only place I see this hatred of linen.

ImBrian · 17/05/2011 20:45

I have 3 pairs of linen trousers from Primark and I love them! I wear them at work (I teach) and they are lovely and comfy plus they fit under my beginnings of a baby bump. I think they suit me too, Im 5ft 10 and a size 10 and I don't have a baggy arse. Would be nice if they didn't get quite as wrinkly when I forget to hang them up though!

HouseOfBamboo · 17/05/2011 20:50

Mordechai - I think you have it there, I'd venture to say that the reason you love capris is because you're not a pear shape, and therefore have decent legs?

Agree rolled up trousers and high heels is just eugh, even on the greatest legs.

Re White Stuff low-cut-ness I'd say they do it on purpose so you think about buying the 'layering tee' as well to make yourself decent.

Fat Face is different to White Stuff - I think FF more geared to apple-shaped women with VW campervans, I very rarely find anything remotely flattering in there and have more or less given up.

moosemama · 17/05/2011 21:22

I have a vw campervan - but I don't shop at Fat Face and I am an hourglass not an apple.

I have never seen anything I like in Fat Face.

I do have a pair of White Stuff jeans, they are the most flattering jeans I own and I was able to go down a size, so obviously love them for the label if nothing else. Wink

Still don't have a clue what trousers I should be wearing either - am not liking those chino types, I don't do camel or beigey type colours really.

Any other suggestions?

Dogsby · 17/05/2011 21:45
