Hi - I am looking for others who are quitting vaping.

I have quit multiple times, for months at a time, but I always start again. My DH vapes and is not interested in quitting which is difficult as I always know there's a vape in the house. Although, on the bright side, I have learnt something new each time I have "quit" and now I hopefully know how to be successful.

I really want this time to be different and would love to find some people in a similar position for support and encouragement. Whether you have quit, are currently trying to quit, or just thinking about it. All welcome.

Today is my Day 1.

I'll join you. Tomorrow will be day 1 for me. I've quit 3 times this year, all before holidays but gone straight back to vaping once I'm home. Sounds weird but I enjoy it. I don't enjoy the effects it has on my body & health though so this time I'm determined. I've bought some patches & gum to stave off the cravings. Are you using anything? Must be tough if your OH vapes! Wishing us luck & strength

Today is my last day of vaping after DH and I decided to quit, realising it had become not about ‘quitting smoking’ anymore - rather just we liked vaping! We basically just started cutting down the nicotine % in our liquid, so weaned off rather than going cold turkey. We currently have no nicotine at all in our liquid so the physical addiction shouldn’t actually be there anymore once we stop tomorrow, but I know the ‘habit’ of it will still be a problem.

Noreeen · 31/12/2025 12:10

Good luck @Blacksheepatnewyear and @blankcanvas3. Thanks for joining me! I was going to start tomorrow but I got up early and went for a nice frosty walk with the dogs, by the time I got home it was later than the time I would usually start vaping so I thought why not start right now? Get a day under my belt before the new year starts.

I wish my DH would quit too, but he doesn't want to and I obviously can't force him. It does make it trickier though. He will always share his vape with me if I ask him (he also leaves it lying around a lot so I am spending today tidying up anything vape related from around the house).

I have some gum somewhere, which I will dig out if I need to. I stopped in early December because I was poorly, but then annoyingly started again just before Christmas due to a boozy Christmas party. My "just for tonight" turned into full-time vaping again. I know now I can't vape AT ALL, otherwise I'll just start again.

Somebody has told me that lollipops help, so you have something to do with your hands and mouth (ha) when you would normally be vaping. So i’ve gone out and bought loads today. I’ll probably put on about a stone a week 😂. I agree it’s going to make it difficult that your DH isn’t quitting too - can you get him to agree to not giving you his vape if you ask?

I’m planning to quit this year. I’m not starting tomorrow. I’m awaiting a surgery date so will quit when I get that through, it should be early in the new year. I truly love vaping but I know it is rubbish and a bit embarrassing 😂

My stepmother called it ‘uncouth’ which was my decider 😂

I'd love to join. I was an occasional social vaper until April this year. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and since then became a full time vaper. It's sooo hard to stop. I threw my vape away this morning and have started patches... we can do this!!!

I can, but I know he is soft and easily persuaded. So not sure that will work if I crack. 😂

It is really hard to quit. I was a social smoker for years and never ever got addicted. Vaping is so much worse! I wish I had never started.

I agree with your SM. It is uncouth! 😂
I hide my vaping from my parents and FIL as I know they would say the same.

I gave up 4 weeks ago, I was honestly so addicted and also so embarrassed about constantly sucking on the plastic dummy. I used patches and it’s been so easy. I literally have no desire to vape at all. Good luck everyone.

I will acquire some patches to help me on my quest

Querty123456 · 31/12/2025 13:24

Honestly, they are amazing. I went cold turkey giving up cigarettes years ago and it was so difficult. Would so recommend doing the patches, just make sure you choose a high enough strength patch - I have just followed the instructions on back of the packet.

Substitute smoking for vapes. More satisfying and looks less marginally less naff.

Don’t tempt me 😬

MeouwKing · 31/12/2025 13:28

I used to smoke, I used nicotine gum for 6 months and then normal gum.

Tallestone · 31/12/2025 13:37

Good luck

Hi, can I join you? I've also quit 3 times this year, starting in June. The first time I was so confident I'd nailed it, god knows why I started again. Then subsequent attempts I haven't lasted as long. I had a really good thread in chat that was full of good advice- I'm a bit too embarrassed to go back and post my failure but I might re-read it for inspiration.

I'm in a similar position to you @Noreeen that DH vapes- he quit at the same time as me first time round and lasted much longer, only just really started again- but I'm disheartened that he said the craving never really went away for him. DC would be devastated if they found out I'd started again- I'm trying to use that to spur me on but I know I need to want to quit for myself. Much like many of you, I do actually enjoy vaping.. even though it looks ridiculous and is embarrassing, sometimes it makes me feel really sick and it messes with my sleep. And is a horrid secret! Pretty compelling list and that's without even thinking about it.

I used patches first time round but this time I'm tapering my nicotine strength instead. I was on full whack, 18mg. Have gone down through 11 and now I'm on 6. I've got 3 to move down to then hopefully I'll be able to stop, but won't rule out nic free if needed. Best of luck to you all, starting vaping was the worst decision I think I've ever made (and I say that as a divorcee 🤣) I cannot believe just how addictive it is!

Do you feel sick first thing in the morning by any chance? I’ve noticed recently that I’ve been really queasy first thing and I’m sure it must be the vaping

I've noticed sickness in the morning too and had wondered if it could be related.

Good luck @Vapeaddict. Is your DH quitting again too, or just you?

The craving goes away day-to-day for me quite quickly. But then I will have a one off blip that really makes me want to vape (very stressful day at work for example) and then cave.

I want to quit - I stupidly started a few years ago having given up smoking 20 years ago! What an idiot! I gave up when we went to Singapore last year as it’s illegal there but started again. Was thinking of trying Allen Carr again - that’s how I gave up smoking.

Happy new year! I’m so hungover i can’t even think about vaping so that’s one positive! I’m going tomorrow to get some patches, glad they’re working for you

Blacksheepatnewyear · 01/01/2026 12:10

Happy New Year! Day 1 going ok for me, well no vape sice 1pm yesterday so feels like more than day 1. Out last night & was fine, didn't struggle at all but had a patch on. Craving this morning but gum is helping. Need to keep busy...
