Haven't found a thread for Olympic sports discussions so I'm starting one. This thread is only for discussions of the actual sporting events as they happen over the next few weeks, not the unfairness of IOC's rules/philosophy (e.g. allowing a male athlete to declare himself a woman and compete in the women's category...which is immoral, unscientific, and wholly unjust, but that topic already has multiple separate threads).

Although this will be an Olympics like no other, I'm excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing gymnastics and swimming especially!

Personally I disagree with that. Sport is very much about emotions and as long as they don't scream about unfairness, cheating etc, I think it is fine not to be gracious moments after losing a match.

Interview him tomorrow and he will have a far more balanced view.

I quite enjoyed the weightlifting.

Anyone watching the triathlon? Was really hoping Johnny Brownlee would do well, but it's looking better for Alex Yee at the moment. Still only half way through the cycle atm though.

Oh, that was supposed to be a happy grin, not a grimace! Think some of the triathletes are grimacing atm though...

The transition always scares me! I'm not from Yorkshire but love the Brownlees too. I'd like the other guy to do well too since he took Alistair's spot so want him to justify it!

It scares me when there are so many in transition at the same time. Our guys got off ok though. Phew!

The skateboarding was a bit pants imo. I've never seen another Olympic sport where its the norm to miss your mark, fall over or have a wobble with such frequency. Seems less disciplined than other sports.

I know this is my amateur eyes watching it but I think I'd see the same if I just went down to my local skatepark. Just guys trying to get down stair railings on their boards before falling spectacularly.

Lol SecondCityShark! I only saw a bit of the skateboarding but I know exactly what you mean. I'm looking forward to our 12 year old girl skateboarder. Not sure when that is happening though.
