Haven't found a thread for Olympic sports discussions so I'm starting one. This thread is only for discussions of the actual sporting events as they happen over the next few weeks, not the unfairness of IOC's rules/philosophy (e.g. allowing a male athlete to declare himself a woman and compete in the women's category...which is immoral, unscientific, and wholly unjust, but that topic already has multiple separate threads).

Although this will be an Olympics like no other, I'm excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing gymnastics and swimming especially!

I thought maybe they were just... unfortunate on De Grasse the other day, but no, they all look like that!

I am watching the women's football final, looks like it is going to penalties ⚽️

yes something about the grey colour or the fit of the Canadians' shorts was worst of all, but quite a few of them - specially the lighter colours or even red - were pretty revealing! A few teams had slightly longer tops, or the runners posed with strategically placed hands clasped for the intro, which makes me think some of them are aware of it!!

Great to see such a successful evening of athletics for GB at last. Until last night, I was starting to think we might only get one athletics medal! I hope our athletes are properly looked after - seems to have been a lot of injury.

I only saw the top 8 or so riders in the pentathalon showjumping. I don't know much about horses at all. I assumed the rides were weak compared to the proper showjumping and eventing because the riders don't know the horses and haven't connected with them? Should they have been able to manage better regardless? The final rider made me cry. Both the athlete and the horse looked so distressed. Thought at least the athlete had chosen to be there.

So so pleased for Laura - I feel so emotional!

Laura had a baby in-between olympics as well, I just can't get my head around the amazing women who have done that, my body hasn't recovered and mine were all born before Beijing.

As did Allyson Felix, who nearly died in childbirth. With today's bronze she has more Olympic medals than any other female track and field athlete, with a good chance of another tomorrow in the 4x400 relay.

@AndEmilyCampbellDancing I didn't know Laura Muir had a baby! Lots of talk of her being a vet but didn't hear a single thing about her being a mum!

Laura K has a baby but for some reason there wasn't the hoo ha over her coming to the Olympics as there was for Helen Glover!

Laura's son isn't a baby, I think he's about 4?

So she's trained throughout his babyhood.

Bryony I think that's because the Kennys' son is 4 and Laura Kenny asks interviewers etc not to mention him because it upsets her.

The kids they've focused on - Helen Glover's, Adam Peaty's and Max Whitlock's are the main ones I've noticed- are babies or toddlers
