*klaxon* Sporn advice needed

Ugh this is well grim, please bear with me.

I've had a pilar cyst on the back of my head for a few years now, and it minded its own business until last week when I caught it with my hairbrush. What started off as maybe a 1in lump swelled up to maybe 2.5in and hurt like fuck. Went to the doctors on Wednesday and got anti-b's and got told they could remove it but the Doctor that does that only works on Wednesdays and I'd missed her for that week.

I woke up in the night in fucking awful pain. It almost throbs and is so taut, if that makes sense. I can't lie on it or in any way that it almost touches the pillow. It's hot and the glands in the back of my head and neck are up and hurt :(

Just before I started writing this, something popped and now the back of my head it soaked with what I guess is pus The lump is still there though.

So my questions given that I won't get a doctors appointment today:

1. Do I just keep it clean, keep taking the tablets and get an appointment asap? Could be days though, knowing my surgery.

2. It fucking hurts and is spewing something out now - would a walk-in centre be able to do anything given that I'm already on antibiotics?

ps. I know the rules. It's really hard to get a pic of the back of your own head, and it's covered by my hair. If anything further develops I'll ask DH to take a pic tonight.

Could be a four hour wait. If it gets to 8pm one of you lot can sort it out. My mom has apparently been watching videos on YouTube and 'it doesn't hurt'...

Definitely get it looked at, it's massive and looks so, so sore.

I fear they may refer you to A&E. When I had a gigantoboil under my arm that's what my local drop-in centre did. I felt quite a fraud since it wasn't really an emergency, but A&E really took it quite seriously and sent me off to a sort of minor surgery ward to get speared and sewn up.

That is a mighty impressive cyst. I would feel envious if I didn't also think it must hurt like hell. We are expecting a full report with lots of gory details afterwards, thank you very much.

Perhaps the professionals could video how they deal with it? For educational purposes of course

Wow, hope it's not a long wait

I made the mistake of watching one of those (think it's the pimple doctor?) videos on YouTube. She makes a tiny cut, presses and a little ball rolls out. I feel sickly impressed. I'd quite like to see the ball come out of this one. I would definitely take a pic of that for you.

I'm not place marking. Oh no I'm definitely not hopes OP is in East London and wants a random off the internet to come and hold her hand whilst holding the camera

Update:

Four hours my arse, that was an hour and 15!

The nurse took a look at went 'ooh that's big, you might have to go to a&e.'

She had a little go on it and squeezed some gunk out and I had to try not to squeal. But while she was doing it she was talking about people who put pictures of 'this kind of thing' on YouTube. So I didn't hesitate to take a picture of the crap for you all.

Going to A&E would involve having a 'hole in [my] head for ages' and suggested I get my husband to keep squeezing the crap out periodically (never going to happen!) and go back to the GP when the antibiotics run out.

Then she said the antibiotic prescription is one for a child an doubled it!

So I'm still lumpy, still feel a bit poorly, so we'll see how that goes!

If a pilar cyst is like a sebaceous cyst, you need to have the cyst sac properly removed by a doctor, or else it just keeps re-filling. That's why Dr Sandra Lee often takes a scalpel to big cysts - you can see her remove the sac as well as getting all the goo out.

My previous post has reminded me why I think Gu is a really bad brand name for runny puddings.
