We’ve all had to press pause on travel plans this year, while reminiscing about the great travel experiences we’ve had. While it hasn’t been easy, it’s also been a chance for us to reflect on the people we’re grateful to travel with, and think about the first trips we’ll take as things start to get better. Now that we’re almost ready to step out into the world again, Skyscanner wants to find out what you are looking forward to doing on your next holiday.

Here’s what Skyscanner has to say: “The past few months have been a truly eye-opening experience to what life would be like without travel. It has made us reflect and appreciate the impact travel has on us personally. As the world slowly opens up again and we start making plans to travel safely to reunite with the people and places we’ve missed, it also has us wondering how travel’s role has evolved in our lives.”

So we are asking you how have the past few months changed the way you see travel? Will you explore closer to home, or are you itching to complete your travel bucket list? What will be your travel goals - creating more memories with the family, or prioritising more time for yourself? What are the things you’ve missed the most when travelling?

Whatever your top list of things to do on your next holiday are, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I hope we'll be able to get back to Mexico to see my in laws and maybe have a little beach time, too! It's been an age, got my fingers crossed things get better so we can make it happen.

ailsasheldon · 24/07/2020 05:18

Can’t wait for an all inclusive break where I don’t have to meal plan! We do love a staycation but it always falls to mum to think about food

MarsBarRover · 24/07/2020 16:02

Looking forward to booking a holiday somewhere hot with a lovely beach and sea.

Owllycrafter · 24/07/2020 23:04

I am looking forward to being away as a family and visiting a beach. I am looking forward to seeing my son dig in the sand and just being chilled

Marsbardelight · 24/07/2020 23:47

On my list:

Teach our kids to swim
Relax
Worry less
Try some new food
Make some amazing memories!

This time last year we celebrated our silver wedding anniversary on a family holiday to Florida. We had an incredible time, its a place we love. We tend to have a few years of uk holidays and then save for the Florida sun. It'll be a few years before we feel safe enough to go again, and are considering a theme park trip in Europe next year. This year may be a late autumn break away, self catering with a change of scene and takeaways!

We are sticking close to home in case of further lockdowns. We’ll only be about an hours drive away but glamping (with a firepit and outdoor shower) so I’m hoping for reasonable weather. I’m not sure if we’ll be brave enough or able to try eating out. Possibly the only holiday we’ve not had an itinerary for in case all of our plans get cancelled!

I am not put off travelling. Covid has made me feel so cooped up that I really want to travel, however I would try as much as possible to go to very low risk places. I would want to do adventurous things like skiing, watersports, cycling, water parks. I feel like this whole lockdown has made me realise that being able to get away is a priority for me. I wouldn't like touristy resorts though, never have, although I must say its handy for the kids having food/pool all there for you. But I prefer a quiet cottage/ B&B in a less touristy spot.

Lemonysherbet · 25/07/2020 14:46

I can't wait to take our baby away next year. Home or away just spending time together as a family by the beach or pool ( clearly a water loving family) will be an amazing chance to watch our little boy grow.

picklemewalnuts · 25/07/2020 17:11

It's less about sightseeing when you arrive- who knows what will be available, more about being away from home and switching off from everyday life.

Confinement of lockdown means I want to get away from people, be outdoors more. I'd like to stay somewhere with dark skies, where gentle walks are available, and wildlife to see. Somewhere quite isolated- I don't want to see other people!

mlhs4198 · 25/07/2020 17:53

We were due to go away to Gran Canaria in September, with our newborn who is now a week overdue 😒 this has now been postponed to May 21!

It does make you realise how essential a holiday is for your mental wellbeing, I find it reassuring to have a break to look forward to. I think now we have to wait until next year, we may look at a short UK break once little one arrives, maybe in the autumn.

The thing I miss most about holidays is swimming in the sea, my favourite thing to do Thanks

mummyuk86 · 25/07/2020 20:43

We'll be exploring more places in the UK. First on the list is Dorset and Cornwall.
Our aim is to make as many amazing family memories as possible.

doctorboo · 25/07/2020 21:00

We're off to Center Parcs at the end of August. Obviously a bit nervous but we'll be taking are masks, wipes and antibac gel.

We're planning on making the most of the self catering aspect and giving our boys the chance to cycle to their hearts content. If the pool is back up and running that'll be lovely and the boys can work on their swimming. We'll follow whatever rules CP put in place to keep ourselves and everyone else safe.

Time away from the stresses of home working and home schooling. Looking forward to bike rides through the pine forest, boogie boarding, wine and a good book

BunchOfCunts · 26/07/2020 09:35

I really just want to spend some time sitting by a pool in the sun and wandering around a new town. My kids haven't been abroad so I'm hoping to take them away sometime soon. I want them to have fun playing in a pool and really grasping how to swim!

pushchairprincess · 27/07/2020 13:52

have the past few months changed the way you see travel?

Definitely, I won't be holidaying abroad for the next 12 months at least.

Will you explore closer to home, or are you itching to complete your travel bucket list?

There are so many holiday locations, camps and venues (glamping, hot tub camps, cottage lets ...) It's just the weather that lets us down, I will create a new 'bucket list' for the UK - top of my list is a 'haunted castle'

What will be your travel goals - creating more memories with the family, or prioritising more time for yourself? What are the things you’ve missed the most when travelling?

I have lots of travel goals, have new experiences with friends, a spa day (alone) and lots of fun and chaos with the children at a holiday camp.

Toombumber · 27/07/2020 20:37

It hasn't really changed my views on travel, except my passport ran out in May and I wouldn't have been able to get a quick replacement, so hard to choose abroad anyway. I usually go self catering so not really socialising or seeing any staff where I stay. I'm looking forward to being forced to make use of being outdoors and appreciating nature seeing as how all indoor things might still be closed, or restricted so that the fun is taken out of it.

missymousey · 27/07/2020 22:31

Taking the sleeper train to Paris with DH for a long weekend without the DC. That'll be a while away though Grin. More realistically, visiting friends down south and staying in their gypsy caravan.

wolfmom · 27/07/2020 22:50

Hoping to see more of UK with my family, but won't be until next year. My holiday plans are simple, visit nature or historical areas along with a little retail therapy.

BimbleBamble · 28/07/2020 09:43

Taking our baby backpacking to South East Asia, showing her other cultures and delicious foods, and more than anything, hopefully getting to meet up and hug my best friend who lives in Dubai and who I haven't been able to see for 2 years now.

CoffeeQueenMum · 28/07/2020 11:32

Closer to home, with easier logisitcs if something is a problem e..g. NOT flying anywhere (airports are stressful enough in normal times!).

Iamclearlyamug · 28/07/2020 20:31

Getting to see my fiancé, lockdown has separated us for 5 months. Cant wait to just be with him again, I don’t need fancy restaurants or crazy nights out, just time together

Snorlax86 · 28/07/2020 22:47

Finally pregnant after years of trying and IVF so hoping we will get to have a babymoon in a zika free country abroad, do a bit of sightseeing mixed with relaxing and good food, if I can find a spa that does pregnancy massages then even better!

MumFlewOverTheCuckoosNest · 29/07/2020 00:56

We live in Scotland but have family in England and in Wales: our plan is to visit grandparents and relatives down South as soon as possible. This virus had made me realise how short time is to spend with our older loved ones and I want to make the most of it when I can!

CornishTiger · 29/07/2020 07:14

Not cooking! We don’t go abroad but I’d love to as I want all inclusive.
