We’ve all had to press pause on travel plans this year, while reminiscing about the great travel experiences we’ve had. While it hasn’t been easy, it’s also been a chance for us to reflect on the people we’re grateful to travel with, and think about the first trips we’ll take as things start to get better. Now that we’re almost ready to step out into the world again, Skyscanner wants to find out what you are looking forward to doing on your next holiday.

Here’s what Skyscanner has to say: “The past few months have been a truly eye-opening experience to what life would be like without travel. It has made us reflect and appreciate the impact travel has on us personally. As the world slowly opens up again and we start making plans to travel safely to reunite with the people and places we’ve missed, it also has us wondering how travel’s role has evolved in our lives.”

So we are asking you how have the past few months changed the way you see travel? Will you explore closer to home, or are you itching to complete your travel bucket list? What will be your travel goals - creating more memories with the family, or prioritising more time for yourself? What are the things you’ve missed the most when travelling?

Whatever your top list of things to do on your next holiday are, share on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Seeing my baby paddle in the sea for the first time

Seeing my family for the first time in 5 months!

PickledChicory · 16/07/2020 01:47

Holidays are about quality family time and shared experisnces . Would love to go back to portugal and go to a water park. Kids would love to do that again.
We would seriously consider taking MIL as a treat and so we could relax and unwind.

We've only been abroad once in 15 years to France. We usually camp or holiday cottage in the UK. We've decided to go to Thailand next year with our 3 kids who have never flown before. We will be visiting a friend who lives there in Bangkok and then staying on an island and i honestly can't wait. I'm so excited to show my kids this part of the world. It will be eye opening for them. I've already played around with dates on skyscanner as several people have recommended it to me now. Fingers crossed all travel restrictions are lifted by then.

I’ve turned fifty this year and my fiftieth trip away was cancelled in the spring. Gutting but to be frank, with people loosing their lives and livelihoods it’s not such a big deal.

Like many of us, our lives are on pause at the moment. My DH is working exceptionally long hours & weekends and all I’ve managed to get him to agree to is 4 days off work. My father’s cancer unfortunately looks like it has returned so 2020’s holiday will be 4 days at a Travelodge in Shropshire spending quite a lot of time in my parents garden. It really isn’t the most glamorous of breaks by any means but I’m very much looking forward to it - I’m desperate to see my Dad and getting away from our local area where every day seems like Groundhog Day will be exciting.

As for 2021, I’d like a big proper long haul holiday! Planning trips gives me a hell of a lot of joy and I’m looking forward to safely getting out into the world again.

We are actually going in holiday abroad at the weekend.
We were supposed to be going long haul to some new places (to,us) but that has needed to be out in hold.
Instead we are going on an extended version of the long weekend we had planned to celebrate DD's 18th birthday in April, which was cancelled due to Covid. We were due to go to Épernay champagne tasting for 3 nights.

Now we are still going champagne tasting but we have also added in days in Paris and Strasbourg, and a theme park over the border in Germany, using Eurostar and French trains, plus car hire for a short while. Dd is already in France this week with her boyfriend visiting a friend of theirs who moved to France during lockdown so she is meeting us at the weekend.

I'm just excited at the idea of going away, seeing something beyond my own home (clinically vulnerable so was ultra cautious for the first few weeks and months but been easing myself back out in recent weeks) and our own city. Things will be different with social distancing and masks in indoor public indoor areas and transport but we are ready for that and having weighed it all up we made the decision to go ahead with the plans and make the very best of everything there is to see and do, in as safer manner as possible.

We should have been off to France today for some relaxing in the sun. 🙁

However, I'm now just really looking forward to the time when it's safe to get the family together as a whole. Here at home would be enough this year, but, if we're lucky, it would be fantastic to stay at a self catering cottage somewhere quiet with plenty of space and fresh air to just enjoy each other's company and celebrate all those missed milestone events.

ButtWormHole · 16/07/2020 13:29

I am planning on making memories with my father who has Alzhimier’s. Hopefully that will be a cruise which had to be cancelled this year.

1969angep · 16/07/2020 17:44

We’ve cancelled two holidays this year and I really have no idea when we may consider overseas holidays again. I’m just hoping to maybe get a cheeky week away in this country and find a nice big beach so my son can go body boarding

goose1964 · 16/07/2020 19:43

Cuddle my baby granddaughter, we missed her first birthday due to Covid19 and we'll be going up to see her again soon. So our next holiday will be staying in Bolton as usual and then going into M for a joint 1st and 30th birthday party.

donnab31 · 16/07/2020 20:41

We had a holiday to Portugal booked for June this year which obviously had to be cancelled but we've rebooked for the same dates next year. This way, the airline and villa company didn't have to refund us and we still have it to look forward to (covid situation allowing!)
We've also just booked to stay at a villa in the south of France for October so we can spend some quality family time relaxing. Cannot wait!!

CD28 · 16/07/2020 20:46

I've been on furlogh from work since 1st April. I think a lot of people view this like 'yay - free money and wads of time to do whatever you want!' But actually.. no. That's not how it's been!
Travel to me, over these last few months anyway, is anything from going to the local supermarket to get our weekly essentials (because until recently that's been as exciting as it gets) to a long haul flight to visit the gorgeous waters of the Maldives - my dream holiday destination!
Then half way through April I found out I was pregnant which meant any sunny back garden days/evenings would have to be enjoyed without a fresh cold glass of wine!
We've had a family holiday to Turkey booked since before lockdown which is still going ahead (so far) in October. This means I'll be nearing the end of my pregnancy when we jet off for 2 weeks and do you know what I am looking forward to most? Gorgeous weather, floating around the pool and reading some good books whilst on a sun lounger, probably in the shade because my ankles will no doubt be triple their current size! Oh and not to mention my partner handing me a mocktail to quench my thirst!
Next year I hit the big 3-0 and I'm hoping to go away for a (hopefully well deserved) long weekend with my partner seeing as our little baby boy will be happily cooed over by both sets of grandparents! A £200 voucher could really help us get something booked so we can spend some quality time together.

WhatILoved · 16/07/2020 21:00

I'm shaping up for next summer... want to prance about in a bikini. That was the plan for this year too, but now it's a few days on a farm!

Viviennemary · 16/07/2020 21:37

I have more or less decided I can do without holidays abroad. But I might change my mind. I loathe airports.

emphasisofmatter · 16/07/2020 22:13

I'd love to just get away with my family. We planned to go away in October but don't feel comfortable. It's also making us rethink the type of holiday - rather than a busy holiday we could go somewhere more isolated and peaceful. I'd love some beach and swimming pool time with my children and enjoy eating out without having to cook!

Pandacub7 · 17/07/2020 08:45

I’ve just qualified as a teacher so I’d love to have a city break in Italy or Germany when I can☺️

TheQueenOfTheNight · 17/07/2020 08:51

I'm looking forward to listening to the waves and reading books. Just a change of scenery and a relaxing time.

StickChildNumberTwo · 17/07/2020 09:56

Sleeping and not seeing all the things that need doing round the house. Hopefully some trips to the beach, see some dolphins, eat some ice cream. But mostly sleeping.

wineymummy · 17/07/2020 15:36

Getting drunk with friends after having been pregnant since finding out in the middle of my last holiday!

Scottieboi32 · 17/07/2020 17:55

Trip to Scotland, visit my parents and have a few days away on a city break. Heading there now actually. Finally a family catch up Smile

Shoom72 · 17/07/2020 17:57

Will not go away untill later in the year, maybe Christmas time. Just days out to enjoy with the family!!

libra101 · 17/07/2020 19:15

Lockdown has definitely changed our perspective for travelling this year.

With all the uncertainties regarding potential travel restrictions at present, I think that travelling round the UK is our best bet.

We hope to choose some beautiful areas round the UK, either Wales or Scotland. As our children are older now, we will enjoy checking out some interesting National Heritage sites, going for scenic walks, and enjoying good food and wine.

Hopefully next year will be easier for travelling abroad.

cathisherwood · 17/07/2020 19:17

Don't think we'll be doing the usual all inclusive in the Canaries for a while so will probably do some family visiting around Britain instead

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 17/07/2020 20:22

Having a break from ground hog day!
A change of scenery, foreign food, hopefully some sun, seeing my husband relax for a change, splashing with the kids in the pool, having campsite pizza

disneydreaming · 17/07/2020 21:19

I'm most looking forward to seeing my children happy and playing on the beach or by the pool and away from technology Smile
