Home is a place many of us feel our most comfortable and happy, and making your house a place you feel like you can truly call home is personal and individual. Crown would like to hear your tips for making your home a happy place.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “We have exciting new paint shades to update your home this spring in our Breatheasy® matt and silk finish which is 99% solvent free and now certified asthma & allergy friendly® – a fresh look for your room and peace of mind for you, allowing you to create a healthier and happier home”

Have you added a splash of colour to your walls to brighten up your home? Perhaps you’ve filled your home with art that inspires you, or you have plants in every room to bring life to your surroundings?

All who post below what makes their home a happy place will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list), plus £100 worth of paint of their choice from crownpaints.co.uk.

Thanks and good luck

Just having the children happy and being able to play with their toys in a loving home environment

Pimmsypimms · 09/05/2019 23:21

Lots of storage to make tidying away easier and quicker and a cosy lounge with soft throws and comfy cushions for snuggling up to with the family.

UpOnDown · 10/05/2019 18:50

I use plants, and light walls and curtains.

magentastardust · 10/05/2019 20:09

Definitely having a clutter free room. I love nice smells from candles and the luxury of some fresh flowers.
In Winter I love lots of cosy cushions and blankets ..it is just about making a room feel relaxing and welcoming and somewhere you can just chill in.

I love colour, DH loves magnolia.

For equal happiness in our home three rooms were DHs choice paint, and four rooms were mine Wink.

Also, mood lighting. That gives a cosy homely feel. My personal preference, especially for the cream rooms, is gaudy table lamps to give them a bit of character... DH is coming round to it.

I think it's having nice things around you like paintings. The colour of walls gives an instant good feeling. We used Crown - I've been happy with the results and need to redecorate. I like some of the Period colours.

We are real home birds. We have sacrificed holidays to have the home we wanted and have made it relaxing and comfortable. I expect that’s why we still have two adult sons at home!

beethebee · 17/05/2019 03:54

Turned the DCs bedroom walls into 'art galleries ' of the tons of pictures they bring home from school. Almost every centimetre is covered now. It looks totally chaotic but very happy.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 21/05/2019 23:22

Filling it with fun and laughter, letting DC enjoy themselves and have their friends round

I love having photographs in frames, of important people in our lives. I also love putting DC artwork up, there is plenty of time when they are all grown up for clean and tidy walls and fridge!

biffyboom · 21/05/2019 23:28

I like that we decided room colours together as a family, and also large furniture pieces.

ASREE · 23/05/2019 16:00

My fiancee and two youngest kids make my home a happy place!

ASREE · 23/05/2019 16:01

I should probably point out that the eldest has moved out, its not that she doesn't make it a happy place Grin

OnePotMeal · 24/05/2019 17:37

However short of money we are, I always have fresh flowers on the kitchen table. It's my one indulgence.

PorridgeAgainAbney · 24/05/2019 20:08

Photos of loved ones and holidays, everywhere. I used to only want ‘good’ photos up on the wall, now I want loads that just bring back good memories.

We have loads of books and it’s lovely when DS talks about something he’s learned at school and we can go straight to a book on the shelf instead of relying on google.

misskatamari · 30/05/2019 22:16

My favourite thing in our home is the display of pictures the children have drawn/painted. Always make me smile.

HannahLI · 06/06/2019 14:32

We love colour it always makes us feel good and we did this by painting the walls and adding a couple of stripes in a colour to my sons room, bright furnishings and accesories have also been a great way to add to a room, you can really change a room with a bright rug and some great cushions and a fab piece of art on the wall.

sunshinyday12 · 29/06/2019 08:31

For us it's plants. Transforms a room, don't think you can have too many! The challenge is remembering to water them. I find asking my local plant shop which ones are hardest to kill helps!

like2review · 30/06/2019 19:56

Food definitely makes my home a happy place! Fresh bread and homade baking or cooking are the best smells.... I like family photo collages around the house and homemade items in a room weather its a cushion cover, photo mug, and general feeling of being cosy! What makes a home are the people in it and a happy heart.💕
Home decor definitely can change the look and feel of a room and choosing what colour to paint a room.... is half the fun as everyone has a different favourite colour! So true Crown paint isn't just colour... Its personal!

powkin · 06/07/2019 17:09

Having lots of personal mementos. We collect posters from art exhibitions we’ve been to all
Over the world and they look beautiful and remind us of time we’ve spent together, plus it’s quite unique and shows our personalities.

Sleepybumble · 08/07/2019 21:46

Relaxed, warm, clean, welcoming and comfortable. This is what makes me feel happy at home.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 09/07/2019 22:01

I have lots of pictures, pictures of happy times, pictures of my family, pictures of my children, my wedding all on the walls.
Artwork on the walls has almost all been painted by my nanny or been gifted between me and my husband. Our house was a ‘project’ when we brought it and it was a lot of work to make it a home but now I love my home.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 18/07/2019 21:39

Be bold and be yourself with your decor. As much as you might lust after perfect instagram showhomes- you'll be much happier if your home is all about you.

Olajs · 19/07/2019 07:24

I’ve discovered in recent years that if something for the home doesn’t make me want to do a dance of joy then it’s not worth having it. Buying home furnishings or decor because “they’ll do” means I’ll always feel “meh” about my house, whereas buying things I love make me feel so happy there.

LKRJM · 19/07/2019 07:27

Me and my DP are renovating our first home. What makes our house a home is giving life to old items, buying second hand and sprusing them up to our own style with a lick of paint. Currently expecting our first baby and the nursery will have an old ottoman cleaned up and painted for the baby’s toy box!

PorridgeAgainAbney · 04/08/2019 07:29

Photos, mementos, a fridge covered in funny pictures and sayings, artwork from school. I lived in a house that was beautiful but. I have only bad memories due to awful neighbours, so now the fact that I live somewhere I feel happy and safe means I’m not too worried about colour palettes (I am really and would like to decorate, but i’m happy to live in the totally unsophisticated mess that we have for the moment) Grin.
