Home is a place many of us feel our most comfortable and happy, and making your house a place you feel like you can truly call home is personal and individual. Crown would like to hear your tips for making your home a happy place.

Have you added a splash of colour to your walls to brighten up your home? Perhaps you’ve filled your home with art that inspires you, or you have plants in every room to bring life to your surroundings?

All who post below what makes their home a happy place will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list), plus £100 worth of paint of their choice from crownpaints.co.uk.

Thanks and good luck

family photos a plenty, providing a smile at every turn. Fun colours and lighting and lots of cosy accessories.

The fact that my toddler can spread out and play makes my home a happy place. I don't care if my home gets messy in the process - it can always be cleaned up later.

I have lots of pictures and postcards up and around on the walls. Some people may not like it but for me it's about the memories they bring up. Some of the people in the photos have passed away but they live on with us in this way :)

Keep your home clean and hygienic, bright and colourful in decoration but to your own taste and super child friendly . have a home, not just a house :)

rocketriffs · 23/04/2019 00:44

I put the little things the kids create all round the house. Paintings, drawings, all their arts and crafts lovely and bright with sparkly glitter. The best thing to cheer up a home I think.

I've just moved to a 3 bed with my 2 little ones having a fresh start. Just about to start decorating. This house isn't a home yet. Aslong as us 3 are together then were home nothing materialistic matters. Having a safe, cosy environment and a comfy bed to sleep on is all that's needed.

Fresh flowers, windows open, the smell of baking and blankets. I'm a bit of a One for draping blankets over furniture. But- really- laughter and a house filled with children. We've one child but frequently have friends to stay with their children. That's what makes a house a home.

AlliKaneErikson · 23/04/2019 03:48

Our house looks very ‘lived in’ (probably ‘Cluttered’ to many people) but we feel at home. We tend to paint the walls quite plain colours but add splashed of colour with furniture and art eg our sofas are teal.

Try to install a positive communication style in your home. Use positive words rather than negative - rather than 'I can't do...' try 'I want to be able to...' and allow open conversations of trust and respect.

involve the family in any decisions :)

lorrainej162 · 23/04/2019 08:39

Family photos, photos of special family places make a home feel special. Also, pictures and creations made by children kept on display to make them feel they have added to the feel good factor of the home.

We sing songs and read books together and we have a weekly movie night with popcorn, which our three year old loves! From an aesthetic point of view, lots of little things contribute to our happy home. Natural light, art from holidays we have been on, fresh flowers, family photos, and clay handprints of our babies are some of our favourites. Managing the ever-growing toy situation is probably the hardest challenge, but we try to keep on top of things but tidying up throughout the day and keeping clutter and tripping hazards to a minimum.

We've just extended and opened up the back of our house which makes it feel a lot more roomy - we're going to decorate quite neutral and add some art work to the wall and pictures of the boys. Adding a breakfast bar gives us the opportunity to have some interaction in the morning before school. Happy kids make my house a happy place to live :-)

pipersky30 · 23/04/2019 10:56

Having everyone understand that we share the living space, that we can all benefit from keeping it clean and tidy :)

angela121262 · 23/04/2019 11:24

Friendly atmosphere and great food

Cashy17 · 23/04/2019 11:30

We have family photos all over the house, the kids love looking at them and remembering things we have done. I try to keep the house organised, it just makes life easier and less stress full when your in a hurry. We have a slightly different colour in each room but all light and airy which helps it look clean and fresh.

purplaa · 23/04/2019 11:51

Light, airy areas and lots of photographs :)

DoAllMeerkatsComeFromRussia · 23/04/2019 11:54

Making each space personal with pictures, lamps etc that reflect the environment and that person's tastes. Also, nothing needs to be pristine. Our home will never be a museum and nothing is irreplaceable.

badgermum · 23/04/2019 11:56

We make our home welcoming by having neutral colours on the walls and photo displays of happy times with family and friends all around our home, we make sure there's plenty of comfortable seating, cushions and throws available for family and friends times

Mariobug25 · 23/04/2019 13:14

Our house is a happy place because we don’t take things too seriously! I don’t follow my children around immediately tidying up after them for example (that’s my duties when they are in bed!) we enjoy the moments most this way. We always listen and respect each other, these traits are so important and I’m so happy my children have them. X

tishist · 23/04/2019 13:28

Being surrounded by lovely things makes my home happier

molly57 · 23/04/2019 13:39

Do everything you can to make it welcoming to all no matter who they are.

Twiglet1983 · 23/04/2019 13:50

For me a happy home is one that's lived in and enjoyed. My home could be tidier but my son has his toys out during the day & that's ok.

Samanabanana · 23/04/2019 13:51

Bold colours, family heirlooms, house plants, books, art, and pictures of our nearest and dearest all help make our house a home! In the rooms we've done, anyway. We won't talk about the ones left to do Grin

Jocelynne123 · 23/04/2019 14:10

I like very calm, relaxing colours on the walls with splashes of colour in things like rugs and cushions. I like to come home to a relaxing environment. My daughter has always picked her own bedroom design. I think it's important that her space makes her happy. We have had Winnie the Pooh, bright pink and purple and now blue.
We also have lots of photos on show. So we can be surrounded by the people we love and happy memories xx
