Home is a place many of us feel our most comfortable and happy, and making your house a place you feel like you can truly call home is personal and individual. Crown would like to hear your tips for making your home a happy place.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “We have exciting new paint shades to update your home this spring in our Breatheasy® matt and silk finish which is 99% solvent free and now certified asthma & allergy friendly® – a fresh look for your room and peace of mind for you, allowing you to create a healthier and happier home”

Have you added a splash of colour to your walls to brighten up your home? Perhaps you’ve filled your home with art that inspires you, or you have plants in every room to bring life to your surroundings?

All who post below what makes their home a happy place will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list), plus £100 worth of paint of their choice from crownpaints.co.uk.

Thanks and good luck

calm colours on the walls and soft lighting and cuddles off my two dogs

Rachdayan · 18/04/2019 18:21

An organised home is a happy home for me. I hate clutter and that makes me feel anxious, so lots of storage is important as well as soft lighting from lamps rather than the main ceiling light.

We let our dd 'decorate' the walls of our flat, we are going to let her do the same to her bedroom too.

tidying up at the end of the day

We love the warm colours that you can get from paints these days, and have used them in our different rooms. We have even mixed our own paints to create a bespoke colour, which we love.

We also love big sofas and big, plump cushions, as we find these so welcoming.

laurac1987 · 18/04/2019 19:39

Nice colours and interior that we choose as a family, letting my DD chose the colours and decorations for her bedroom, a big messy family kitchen and a well loved and used decking area.

Curated clutter - I’ve got a mixture of accent bright colours and things that have belonged to my family decades ago that make the rooms quite personal and all have a special story

Calm colours and everyone has their own space to do as they like x

We've rented for years and years and years, and although we're hoping to buy a real family home in the next year or so, currently I'm still stuck with wall to wall magnolia paint and carpets that look like wheetabix. SO SICK OF MAGNOLIA I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU. But even in rented places, you can make the place feel more homely- I find bright soft throws on the sofa and a rug in an accent colour can add so much warmth to even the most plain rooms.

I also love houseplants, there's something about having something fresh and green and living that breathes life into a space.

Don't try curate your space like a show home- Let your personality show through, try make a space for some photos and pictures, a few souvenirs from travels, or some quirky vintage piece that you adore.

I love having my home smell nice, whether thats through oil burners strategically placed or just having something home-made baking in the kitchen.

Chill out about having the 'perfect' home. Time passes quickly and honestly, when you're watching your kids grow up you'll remember the times you were playing together and having fun, having a few cobwes won't matter!

But above all, the people and relationships make the home happy!

Whole family based play with wife and kids. A great big giggle before bed and letting the kids use me as a climbing frame! I also love our play room. Close the door and forget about the mess

Dizzywizz · 19/04/2019 11:34

I love having lots of plants, children’s toys visible (but not all over the floor!) and windows open to allow lots of fresh air in.

mrsaishakhan · 19/04/2019 13:14

I love having large living room pillows and people sitting on the floor or on the carpert - no sofas allowed.

MrRichTea · 19/04/2019 13:18

With items that make you smile, laugh, reminisce of times past

Reastie · 19/04/2019 15:18

I’m a great one for deciding on the spur of the moment to paint the walls as I get bored of how the house looks. I don’t like bland colours so we have lots of bold colours going on. I found a new toy in a sort of paint roller thing that gives a pattern onto the wall that gives the effect of wallpaper. Dh is often rolling his eyes when I say I’d like to paint a room or a wall! Last room was the playroom which dd got to choose and went for a nice bright teal. We seem to have a lot of green and blue shades in the house, I need to try different colours. I can’t wait to redecorate the downstairs loo as I’m thinking I can go crazy in there with boldness but havent decided yet what to do.

kkhimji · 19/04/2019 15:51

Right so I hoover twice a week, use bright colours on the walls, and finally plenty of windows and sunlight :)

lizd31 · 19/04/2019 17:35

Family time, instead of sitting around the television eating tea, sit at the table & chat about the day

QwertySmalls · 19/04/2019 20:17

IKEA stick on blinds.
Ebay sofa
Nice big rug.

mumsophia7 · 19/04/2019 20:40

Candles! I always light a few candles in the evening and ensure the living room is tidy. This means my fiancé and I can have a relaxing evening, stress free and feeling calm.

emms88 · 19/04/2019 20:44

Cosy lighting, pictures and artwork on the walls make home feel like a happy place.

Cailin7 · 19/04/2019 20:51

happy home is a cosy home with all our photos and items around

helly27 · 19/04/2019 21:40

Make you sure you let everyone have an opinion and listen to each other not just hear things

littlemonkeyz · 20/04/2019 09:38

We have done extensive renovations in our house and painted it in warm inviting colours. However, there is a row of little handprints around every room about 3 ft up!! This makes our house a happy home because although it needs to be re-decorated one day, we know that my son feels safe and enjoys being in our home.

applesandoranges221 · 20/04/2019 17:18

A lovely clock with shelves underneath - brilliant focal point for the room and really cheered it up with flowers and photos!

mollysmammy · 20/04/2019 17:41

When I moved into my home it was awful (think 'Only Fools and Horses' but worse...) I'm trying my best to make it look better. But what makes me truly happy is I moved here so I was within walking distance of the school DD loved, and to be near my parents (her grandparents), I chose location over a modern home, I'm slowly getting there and making it mine and DD's Smile We've not lived here long and cannot wait to choose paint colours (especially as it may detract from that 'gorgeous' anaglypta lining!)

mclarkie · 20/04/2019 18:39

Plenty of plants dotted around the home makes for a happy home in my oppinion
