My house is messy because no matter how much I tidy it, the kids always manage to undo it before I've even finished! but we try to make our house a happy relaxed home because everyone who visits is made very welcome and put at ease, plus given lots of refreshments and the kids are allowed to relax and play and have fun. At the moment we are trying to redecorate the paintwork because it needs a spruce up to make it look a bit brighter and we are all choosing what paints are needed for each room to give it a quick make over. The accessories like a few new cushions, pictures and plants will help to complete the welcoming look.

Having the home reflect our personalities - decor that is practical for the space (be it bright & cheerful/muted & calming), lots of family photos & pieces that hold great memories! Keeping it tidy but not obsessively.
Generally having it be a place you really want to return to after a stressful day :)

We have lots of the kid's pictures in frames (I think they are called articulate frames?) where you can slide them in and loads fit so you just pile them all in on top of each other. Like a filing system of sorts! I do clear them out eventually but the pictures look much better in a frame but it's too much to actually properly frame them so this is a great compromise.

We also have lots of big photos up - mainly acrylics or poster boards which brighten up the house. Some are of the family but lots are just arty shots someone in the family has taken. Nothing poncy! Just colourful - like a tree in autumn or a photo of the fields in the sunshine out the back of our house.

It helps us if the walls are plain and neutral as our colour comes from the art and photos.

Baking with my kids, the smell of fresh baked goods and making memories with them

Lots of fun and laughter, bright colours and love!

We love framing the children's art work and displaying it around the house. It adds brightness and bold splashes of colour, makes the children proud and shows them that they are equally as important when it comes to decorating!

cathryn1 · 23/04/2019 21:35

kelliec · 23/04/2019 22:08

I like warm brighter colours on the walls in a fingerprint friendly finish so no one is stressed about who is touching or bumping things

Cismyfatarse1 · 23/04/2019 22:17

Warm colours, a log fire (or wood burning stove) and tea. Lots of tea.

I am in a cold place though.

phillw · 23/04/2019 22:19

Lots of animals around the house!

robyn297 · 23/04/2019 22:37

We feel getting the kids involved makes things happier, we hang their photos and drawings in various spots in the home. Also, they get to make lots of decisions in their own rooms, we are renting at the moment, so we do sometimes need to rein their ideas in, but overall, they come up with some great ideas!

Helsbells68 · 24/04/2019 08:18

We have white walls throughout and add colour with furnishings and decorations. We even allocated a wall for our two to draw on if they wanted but they preferred sheets of paper, any paper they could get their hand on would do the job.

HotChocolateLover · 24/04/2019 12:47

We have tiles on every wall in the bathroom except one which has a gorgeous blue/grey colour on it. We have also got this in the downstairs loo to continue the theme. We have some beautiful pictures on the wall but my favourite it the caricature that we had done of us on our wedding day. It really captures the spirit of the day and makes me smile whenever I look at it.

SSCRASE123 · 24/04/2019 14:30

Not being too fussy over keeping everything tidy, giving the kids some room to breathe and play. Try to eat together as much as we can and talk about everyones days.

alem17 · 24/04/2019 21:27

Plenty of laughter

Aquifolium · 28/04/2019 16:47

Enough space so the occupants can do their activities like Lego, music, sewing and not have to tidy up before they are finished because it’s a mealtime and the decks need clearing.

I value having a decent amount of space and hate the fetish that ikea and the like have of ‘look, if you are clever enough a family of 4 can live in a cupboard’

No thanks.

Gatoadigrado · 29/04/2019 22:00

Lots of storage and not worrying if toys are left out if they're being played with a lot.

Tanfastic · 08/05/2019 20:14

Lots of lovely cosy accessories and personal touches.
