Home is a place many of us feel our most comfortable and happy, and making your house a place you feel like you can truly call home is personal and individual. Crown would like to hear your tips for making your home a happy place.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “We have exciting new paint shades to update your home this spring in our Breatheasy® matt and silk finish which is 99% solvent free and now certified asthma & allergy friendly® – a fresh look for your room and peace of mind for you, allowing you to create a healthier and happier home”

Have you added a splash of colour to your walls to brighten up your home? Perhaps you’ve filled your home with art that inspires you, or you have plants in every room to bring life to your surroundings?

All who post below what makes their home a happy place will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list), plus £100 worth of paint of their choice from crownpaints.co.uk.

Thanks and good luck

Fill the home with music

Ethan260908 · 20/04/2019 21:16

lots of green plants dotted everywhere and lots of mess, which can all be tidied up at bedtime, well that's the theory anyway.

Outdoors is a big thing in our house, we love having space and playing in the back garden. We are in the middle of doing it up and have a new patio and sitting area. I love sitting in the sun and watching everyone play, it's definitely key to a happy home!

Don't just let the adults dictate the decor, let the children have a say in certain areas. We have certain walls that my son has had an input in, for example, a wall in the hallway is made up of empty frames which he rotates his drawings into.
Don't let your house become a museum of untouchable items, let it be a home with things/photos/prints from your days out,,travels or life experiences. Life's too short for matchy matchy furnishings anyway.
Always paint at least one wall yellow in the house - it cheers up a whole room.

Fill it with colour and noise and don't worry so long as people are having fun

Basically, a happy home is one with happy people within rather than fuzzy peach walls or cute framed photos.
Obviously it helps to have colours and styles that are preferred and some sense of order, so I'd say cheery colours, plenty of light (Unless you're aiming for a cosy snug.) and well organised storage.

It sounds old fashioned but I think a happy home is a clean home. I certainly feel happier when I can look around and see a clean home without dust and dirty bits. I look around my mum's home and see wallpaper peeling off the walls and dirty skirting boards and I feel unhappy. I keep asking if she would like me to redecorate for her but she's happy with her home the way it is. So I suppose happiness at home is about how you feel personally rather than what others think it should be.

clareycat · 21/04/2019 23:45

Our house is quite small so keeping it tidy and clutter free definately keeps me happy. Happy mum=happy home!

ElizaW922 · 22/04/2019 03:54

Decluttering - it's difficult to relax when I can never find anything and am tripping over things and everything feels disorganised.

Make sure you create time and opportunity for family members to interact. Eat together if possible and encourage kids to enjoy the company of others.

Welcome friends into the house but ensure they know and follow the rules, which needn't be too strict.

Make home a place where they feel safe and loved.

lolamia91 · 22/04/2019 09:00

lots of cosy lights, pillows and blankets.

EllaAutumn · 22/04/2019 10:32

I make my home a happy place by keeping it tidy and clutter free with lots of storage solutions and a place to keep everything.

Lheath · 22/04/2019 15:35

Storage, flowers, family photos

malisa · 22/04/2019 16:21

If you live in house that's cluttered or doesn't reflect your personality it not feel like home. My motto is to have a house which is clutter free. I like light painted walls with bright accessories, wood furniture which serves purpose. My favourite colours are greens, blue and creams, these are colours to make perfectly relaxing atmosphere in the any room.
I think adding personal touches such as stencils on the wall, photos and lighting would contribute in achieving required results.I have fragrant diffusers in rooms to put us in relaxing mood.
I like if visitors to our home feel welcome too.

sofieellis · 22/04/2019 17:49

The most important thing is that the house works pracically for everyone that lives in it. If that means toys on the living room floor, then so be it. The house will be a happy home if the people in it are happy.

sadiewoohoo · 22/04/2019 20:40

We always display LOADS of our fave family memories like photos and souvenirs from holidays, special gifts. We find focussing on happier times can be helpful in tougher times

pinkjjf27 · 22/04/2019 20:41

A happy home is one that makes you feel happy. A home should reflect your personality and make you smile. A happy home is one that makes you feel happy. A clean, tidy well organised home that is full of memories and meets the needs of everyone living there .

cathyov · 22/04/2019 20:43

We keep our decorating fairly simple and let our DDs choose their own paint colour for their room (not always our choice) but easily changed as they get older and they are always happy with their bedrooms!

scarfattack · 22/04/2019 20:54

I love green plants and pretty much would love to live outside. Natural light etc. I like comfortable sofas and floor space over nice furniture. No loud patterns or colours really, I like things simple.
In reality we have clashing colours and patterns because I'm too tired and never home enough to spend time making the house look nice, there's also four kids and a very messy dh's stuff everywhere and it's all too small to have any decent floor space. Lack of light to one half of the house means I can't have my plants. Still like it though, it's an alright home.

blue25 · 22/04/2019 22:16

Don't be afraid of using the colours you love and don't worry what other people think!

HelenSw4les · 22/04/2019 22:28

Being open to discussions about others viewpoints on a range of subjects, means less arguments and more agreements = happy house.

PhilTB54 · 22/04/2019 22:40

Make sure it's a comfortable home not a showroom. Life does get messy.

nanoobaku · 22/04/2019 23:09

Bright and unusual colours with pictures of fun scattered around the house

melmoo · 22/04/2019 23:14

Plenty of space and light, plus everything as safe as possible so you can relax.

baconbap · 22/04/2019 23:30

comfortable sofa and relaxing garden
