NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

When he knew my favourite colour was purple, and went on to draw a lovely purple flower on my WHITE wallpaper in the dining room. Even when we painted over it, we still saw the silhouette of the flower Shock

My toddler has a full set of "toy" cleaning tools and loves it so much when she can help copy Me when I tidy up around the house!!

Hmumto3 · 05/02/2019 15:36

My children want to help but usually get in the way I just give them a cloth each and get them to wipe down cupboards and walls keeps them busy til they get bored.

My DC loved to 'help' to emulsion the walls of their bedroom. Needless to say there was paint everywhere, but it washed off and they had a great time!

My tiny humans, we have triplets, enjoy wiping their table, spilling their drinks deliberately (so they can mop) and generally destroying, I mean helping, maintain our home.

My daughter used to want to help with everything, but if course it's not really helpful! Cleaning, washing, cooking (which obviously we didn't want her helping with as she didn't understand the dangers) - in the end we got her a toy Hoover and let her 'clean' all the time

Wiping down bathroom surfaces with a wet flannel. Not washing herself, no, no no. But very keen on lathering the rest of the bathroom thoroughly with soap and water!

My 1 year old loves anything that helps.. we bought him a hoover and washing machine toy as he tried stopping me doing the chores so he could do them!

DD recently decided to clean the bifold doors. Using spray polish. They were smeared from floor to about 75cm high. It's still like looking out on a foggy day.....

kiki725 · 07/02/2019 18:31

My dd has her own hoover and always 'helps' me with the hoovering

amaradnas · 07/02/2019 22:51

My toddler spilt water on the floor once and rubbed a sooty duster into it to mop it up!

Mariobug25 · 08/02/2019 07:56

When my son tidys up his room I often find sticky alien toys and the like in his washing basket and socks drawer shortly thereafter! He really does try, bless! 😊

Quite often ‘helping’ with washing. Jumpers end up in with hot wash! Not great.

My little boy used to love to help to vacuum up. He had a plastic golf set which he used to carry around and use the golf club to hoover, unfortunately, he used to hoover the walls with it too so we now have a nice black mark about 5ft up around all of our walls!

This is very timely because only this morning Leo, aged 3, decided to 'help' me water the plants. This was only because he was throwing his ball in the house and knocked over a plant in a pot. The plant was a little dry so the compost spread out a lot. I said 'Oh dear, the plant is dry so the soil has spread out, I'll got and get the brush to sweep it up'. I replaced the plant, swept up the soil and when I turned around Leo was pouring his blackcurrant squash into the plant pot (and naturally all over the floor) and saying 'the plant was dry so I'm sharing my drink'. Half of me wanted to praise him for sharing while the other half just wondered how much more mess we could create from one plant!

My little girl leant to go and get more loo rolls each time we had run out from our up stairs bathroom. So now i never sit on the loo and find empty loo rolls! Brilliant

I remember well how my little boy who was about 2½ at the time was helping me put the laundry in the machine; I popped back into the hallway to pick up a dropped sock, only to find he had emptied a whole box of washing powder all over the floor while I was gone, he was delighted, he thought it was snowing.

rocketriffs · 08/02/2019 23:53

My helpful little man loves to take clothes from the laundry basket and place them in the washing machine, then he makes the decision that his toy cars need are more in need of a wash, so out come the clothes and in go the cars.

hutchina1986 · 09/02/2019 13:45

My daughter drew on her bedroom door and wanted to 'help' to clean it off before I saw it. She knows toothpaste keeps her teeth clean so decided to use the toothpaste to 'clean' the door.

avery64 · 09/02/2019 19:46

When my DD was 2 years old and I was heavily pregnant she was always trying to 'help' One morning I woke to hear her in the kitchen. She had a bowl, a wooden spoon and the contents of my flour bin in the bowl, on the floor and all over herself but what I remember more than anything is the pride in her voice and on her face when she said 'Look Mummy, me bake cake. Put in oven please!' A priceless memory.

Michellemm · 09/02/2019 20:09

My nephew loves to help, to the point of fighting for the hoover or brush. We bought him his own toy saying for his second birthday but that didn’t stop him from wanting mummy’s big one. Him and his little sister get to “help” now when they’re being well behaved until they start to fight instead of taking turns.

Our DS, aged about 3, wanted to help daddy wash the car with the little sponge he found. What we didn't realise was that his little 'sponge' was a scouring pad! No prizes for guessing which side he used to scrub the car. DH was not amused!!!

pandoraskids · 10/02/2019 08:10

My daughter knocked a basket of eggs onto the kitchen floor, got the mop and tried to clean up the mess but actually just spread the mess further

Donnylover · 10/02/2019 14:40

Sweeping the floor with a broom twice as big as them - normally ending with one poking the other one in the eye.

paddington18 · 10/02/2019 15:10

We were decorating our hallway and my little one decided to help out by painting the floor with the unattended paint pot!
