Mumsnet users hare the times their toddlers have ‘helped’ around the house with Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Sweeping the kitchen floor is a favourite, if my youngest sees the brush coming out he rubs at it

Leanfun · 01/02/2019 17:40

Little one once persuaded her older brother to clean part of the kitchen floor.

we were decorating our hallway, my daughter decided she wanted to help too, and started picking off thew wallpaper in the living room, which had been finished the week before

My little boy loves helping.. he loves unloading the dishwasher, is so helpful at tidying, loves helping make the tea!! My almost 9 year old daughter quite the opposite!!

Whilst I was busy one of mine decided very helpfully to use the long handled squeezy kitchen mop to clean the dining room table - she could just about reach enough to move it backwards and forwards and made some lovely scratches on it.

My 3 year old DD loves "helping" around the house. Her favourite is laundry however if you're not watching carefully she will put washing straight out of the washing machine into the washing basket.

Today i was cleaning the skirting boards and i gave her a dry sponge so she could join in. What i didnt realise until i finished is that she was dipping the sponge in her juice and using it to "clean" what i had just done Hmm

My DS toddler wants to do everything!! And comes running saying “help me!” Meaning “I help you” whenever I’m sweeping, washing up, hoovering, putting washing on etc etc! Generally helpful for 30 seconds until he finds a more fun way to do the job which tends to involve more mess than the first palace

When my DS was a toddler he used to drag the hoover everywhere, which was OK, but when we use the hoover for real the hose is now loose and fall s off all the time

My 3 year old likes to clean her own activity table with wet wipes especially if she drops her paint while using it.

Grandma14 · 02/02/2019 09:51

My then 2.5 year old saw me squirting toilet cleaner in the bowl and leaving it.
She couldn’t get to the cleaner, it was kept in a locked cupboard.
Later, she took herself for a wee.
When I went to help, I saw that she’d also “cleaned the toilet for mummy” : by emptying a completly new jumbo size bottle of Johnson’s Baby Lotion in it.
Took me ages, with many scrubs and flushes, to get all the slimy lotion out. .

My little girl has always liked to help put the washing away! By age 18 months she was an expert at hanging up daddy's shirts on hangers! Fabulous as it's my worst job!!

strawberryredhead · 02/02/2019 13:17

My toddler took the broom and was using it to reach up and “clean” the windows.

My son once 'helped ' by putting some dirty clothes in the loo for washing! Luckily I managed to catch him before he pulled the flush!

When my eldest son was still a toddler he loved to pretend to cook meals for me. A memorable occasion was when he woke me up one morning announcing that he had made me some pasta for breakfast. Trying, groggily, to engage I asked if he had made a nice sauce for the pasta. "Yes", he announced proudly. "Shower gel!“ After I'd finished laughing and cuddling him, we had cereal and toast as usual...

DD used to be obsessed with hoovering and liked to help. Our dog follows the hoover round the house.

HeavenlyCharm · 02/02/2019 19:14

My 18 month old loves 'helping' around the house. His speciality is taking down all the washing that's just been hung up and wipes the floor with them... at least something is then clean!

dannydog1 · 02/02/2019 20:20

Washing Up is a favourite and is usually guaranteed to occupy her while I do some chores

lynsmagoo · 02/02/2019 22:21

my toddler likes to help mummy with putting the washing in the machine...he hasn't yet understood the concept of dividing darks and lights so it all comes back out again when he gets distracted.

kkhimji · 02/02/2019 22:34

When they cry or make a noise I know that something doesn't smell right and they help clean any spillages e.g. food, drink, mess from the dog.

vixxx666 · 02/02/2019 23:31

My two have always been really good with helping - both can put washing in the washer and into the tumble dryer (I put the powder etc in). The oldest likes to wash up but I usually have to redo it when he's gone to bed.

My 2 year old likes to put the dirty clothes in the laundry bin and wipe the kitchen table

DelurkingAJ · 03/02/2019 10:15

DS2 likes to help us out the laundry away...I thought I’d cracked it by giving him DH and my laundry to take to our bedroom (one item at a time) whilst I put DCs laundry away. Got to our bedroom to find clean clothing had vanished. He’d very carefully put it all away in our chest of drawers. Except that he can only reach the bottom two drawers of each unit. And had no concept of what was DH’s and what was mine...good effort though.
