Mumsnet users hare the times their toddlers have ‘helped’ around the house with Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Our two year old loves drying up, and emptying the dishwasher. She also loves helping out in less helpful ways, like emptying the airers and emptying the hand held vacuum on the floor!

sm2012 · 31/01/2019 21:04

My toddler likes to help me hang up the washing on the clothes horse which basically means placing clothes on it randomly which inevitably fall down for me to pick up and put on properly! She also likes to take over the mopping of the kitchen floor which ends up a very soggy experience!

Rachdayan · 31/01/2019 21:13

Helping with the polishing, they have a mini vacuum to follow me round with and help out with sweeping the floor and folding washing.

DollyTots · 31/01/2019 21:14

My DD 2 loves bringing the post into us. She gets so excited when she hears it come through the door. Also putting rubbish in the bin (on top of it). Also taking the 'knicky noo noos' (underwear) off the airer & putting it in a pile...across the floor.

Marg2k8 · 31/01/2019 21:15

My children are grown up now, but when younger they liked to 'help' baking cakes, decorating, gardening and all sorts of things.

KennDodd · 31/01/2019 21:22

I remember my two year old 'helping' once by changing the baby's pooy nappy. Not sure that's the sort of help with the house work you were looking for.

beckyinman · 31/01/2019 21:39

She has a mini broom and dustpan and brush but mostly they are used to whack my shins

cozza777 · 31/01/2019 21:42

My toddler helped mummy polishing and while she wasn’t watching used the rest of the tin (which was nearly full) on the coffee table 🤦‍♀️ Needless to say I didn’t ask him to help again!

lhlee62 · 31/01/2019 21:48

My daughter likes to try and feed the dog, Rosie either ends up with a massive bowl of food enough for several days or barely enough for a few mouthfuls, a ton also ends up on the floor!

emmmaaa26 · 31/01/2019 21:50

Generally following me around the house whilst Im trying to do something, asking to help and then getting in the way!! At least she tries I guess.

allsorts4444 · 31/01/2019 22:05

My 2 year old son likes to mop the floor, water everywhere!

pfcpompeysarah · 31/01/2019 22:12

I was hoovering when my son decided he would copy mummy by using his toy hoover too, only problem was he was a little big vigorous in his hoovering skills and ended up taking half the paint off of my skirting boards!

Anj123 · 31/01/2019 22:18

When my daughter was a toddler she loved “cleaning” with her toy hoover which was a small version of mine!

helly27 · 31/01/2019 22:21

My daughter used to help me dust and fold the washing now a teenager does nothing

DenCop1 · 31/01/2019 22:34

Emptying the washing machine is the job our DD loves to do while our DS has a fascination with the dustpan and brush, two very keen little helpers that also have to have a duster each and a little squirt of polish for cleaning their toys while I polish.

Amaksy · 31/01/2019 22:35

My little one does the rubbish pack after I sweep. He told his dad the pother day where the brush was as hid dad had no idea!

He also takes the clothes out of the washing machine and tidies his bed on waking up.

During meal times he helps set [his] table

Daisymaybe60 · 31/01/2019 22:46

Mine are all grown up now, but I remember two of them busily cleaning the bedroom wallpaper with baby oil, and the other proudly helping me with my knitting - "I've taken all the stitches off the needle for you, Mummy".

My grandsons now like laying the table, baking, and washing up. The last two are messy enough to keep them happy for ages.

puppy23 · 01/02/2019 00:07

Near flooding the floor with water to 'clean it' - practically swam through the kitchen

michael888 · 01/02/2019 01:51

Our DD loves to help in the kitchen, especially preparing a meal. As can be expected, if she helps in the cooking she proclaims it's the best meal ever and eats it without a fuss!

rosiejaune · 01/02/2019 01:59

Maybe they could make a laundry detergent without harmful chemicals then?! Other companies manage it.

My daughter used to "help" me cook by getting up before me and mixing all the spices together...

yoeydavis · 01/02/2019 02:40

When my kids were little I would always have a lay-in on a Saturday and Sunday. They would get themselves up and just go and put the weekend kids tv on ( Ant n Dec's SMTV). This had worked really well for my family until my 7 year old decided she would be able to make a cake without any help. Needless to say I needed another lay-in to recover after the mess I had to clean up.

meercat23 · 01/02/2019 09:22

When she was tiny my DD invented Shake and Vac by sprinkling pine scented Vim scouring powder all over the dark blue carpet tiles in the Hallway. It all hoovered up perfectly and the smell lingered for days.

farhanac · 01/02/2019 10:26

She loves sweeping the kitchen floor

muppet1501 · 01/02/2019 11:20

My DD has always liked putting little bits of washing in the machine......and then sitting on the wash basket!

Helsbells68 · 01/02/2019 12:40

My two used lo like helping with gathering dirty clothes to go in the washing only they were actually pulling clean clothes out to the drawer.
