Mumsnet users hare the times their toddlers have ‘helped’ around the house with Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My beautiful 2 year old daughter LOVES to help with the laundry !! If I forget to put the child lock back on the cupboard I can find her in the kitchen filling the washing machine drawer with the none bio washing powder... she very carefully takes small scoops from the box and puts them into the drawer.... the only problem is, she doesn't know when to stop and it ends up all over the floor 😂 she also loves putting the clothes into the machine and will often take her clothes of just so she can put them in the machine and fill the drawer with powder, she also often turns the machine of or puts it on another cycle if i forget to put the child lock on... very confusing when I put a quick wash on and come back to it saying 2 hours left 😥😂

My dc when they were younger loved to help the window cleaner the most. My french windows were never clean as they used to follow him undoing all his hardwork, thankfully he was a lovely chap with equally helpful dc at home!

My 22month old is very helpful around the house. He helps me unload the dishwasher by passing out the bowls and plates and handing them to me with a big "here ya" everytime. He helps me load the washing machine with clothes and brings the dropped stuff through to hang up. He'll also go around collecting recycling and putting it the box for us. Some sorting is required in this step as occasionally toys find their way in there too. And he loves collecting rubbish and putting it the bin. Christmas he was in element collecting all wrapping paper and doing trip after Trip to bin one sheet at time.

They used to press the button on the washing machine and help me to hang it out when it was finished.

A little older, at 5, they could make their own scrambled eggs, DS1's had ham and cheese because he needs extra fat for a medical condition.

As toddler, DS loved it mop and vacuum, but strangely now a teenager, he won’t lift a finger!

My eldest helped me peg out my washing by pulling all the pegs apart,
The same daughter also recently helped me with the washing but putting it all in her bath I was running.

DS was always there like a shot when he spotted me loading the washing machine. He was fascinated by the buttons and essentially took over the 'laundry duty' from me aged 5! Grin
It was hilarious hearing a little voice from the utility room piping up "You want an extra rinse?" caveat - he had no idea what that meant, just that it's what I'd told him that button did

My DS helps with the gardening, and when we did the borders last year when I had finished digging up the weeds, ready to plant my bedding plants, my DS was very proud with a line of dandelions he had just planted for me. 'Pretty flowers mummy !'

My DS (a couple of years ago) went upstairs, I noticed a lovely aroma around the house. Yikes he was cleaning the windows with my very expensive Jimmy Choo perfume, and a tea towel - mimicking my spray window cleaning.

My DS loves instant whips for tea, and always want to help, so I set him up with a hand whisk, mixing bowl and the milk. He emptied the powder - yes success, not much mess there. Whilst energetic mixing the whole lot tipped over my carpet - it was so hard to get out - so my Rug Doctor was hired and an outfit and several tea towels in the wash.

Our toddler loves brooms and sweeping, I've got her a couple of her own small sets of dustpan and brush and she does a bit here and there! She also grabs her little step when I'm washing up and 'helps' by making bubbles!

I can remember him 'helping' me make a cake once and as my back was turned for a couple of seconds he added washing up liquid to the mix to to keep the bowl clean!

Helps me empty my wardrobe - who wants neatly folded clothes in the wardrobe when they're so much more easily accessible on the floor

Helps unload the clean laundry from the dryer - unload and fold is so last season, it's all about unload and pick off the floor as needed

Helps hiding the kitchen floor space with every item to hand - I mean does Mammy think she can go to the loo alone and me not have done any helping while she was gone?!

My 1 year old likes waving the feather duster around, sometimes his brother joins in and they run around pointing it at each other. They also squabble over who gets to put clothes in the laundry basket - can't imagine that will last until theyre teenagers!

DD is 9 now, but when she was younger her favourite way of helping was to go and spray/pour water over the washing hanging outside because it was 'too dry' Grin

My DS loves to help, especially if it involves a spray bottle! He'll do the spraying and I'll do the cleaning.

My children both love to help changing bedding, shaking duvets and pillows has amused them both from an early age. Thankfully nowadays the hilarious habit of crawling into the duvet cover and refusing to come out has ceased.
They also love to help with cooking which only takes three times as long to get dinner on the table

My youngest kept bringing me wet socks all day one day. I thought, that's cute he must be getting them from the basket of wet washing, he thinks he's helping.

Nope. As he proudly showed me he'd been dipping all my nice dry socks in the toilet. I'm glad we all flush...

3 year old DS 'helped' me last week by cleaning the bathroom sink... with toothpaste... it turned my sunshine yellow sink white. (Although perhaps he was just after a more modern look!)

He does love to help me put the washing powder and conditioner into the washing machine drawer and thinks that it is 'his' job.

Mine love to bring the shopping in from the delivery driver and "unpack" which usually means spreading everything out till they've found the snack of their choice!

Emptying the washing out of the machine and onto the floor was always the favourite here. I can't complain; they're much older now and they manage to fold and put away all their own clean laundry.

My DD 'helps' to hang the washing to dry on the airer by literally throwing it on!!
She also 'helps' to tidy up by shoving everything under the nearest bed / chair / sofa / cupboard Hmm

Mine always love the foam bathroom spray. Covering everything in 'snow' and then making it disappear.
