Mumsnet users hare the times their toddlers have ‘helped’ around the house with Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Whether it’s their facial expressions or what they’re doing around the house, toddlers love to copy mum and dad. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear your stories about when your toddler has tried to ‘help’ around the house, seemingly unaware that they’re probably reversing your hard work.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “’We love it when a family unit comes together and everyone wants to help out, but because of all the chemicals in a laundry detergent we want to ensure that doing the laundry is only a mum & dad chore, however we would love to hear of all the other examples of how your toddler tries to help around the home”

Has your child attempted to do the hoovering? Perhaps they repeatedly empty and put away the contents of any cupboard they’re able to open? Maybe they enjoy destroying your organisation by sorting the clean washing?

All who share their stores on when your toddler tried to ‘help’ around the house, on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

As a toddler my DD loved to rub a cloth across the windows. Generally in the centre and making them look worse than before she got to them!

ellenpartridge · 03/02/2019 11:23

My daughter loves putting clothes in and out of the Washing machine

Mummymitch · 03/02/2019 11:39

My 11month old loves to help hoover up with my cordless vac, the face he pulls Is amazing id say it's in between someone straining trying to poop and an toothless person laughing. So cute Grin

My niece and nephew both have young children and their mum's come to help with cleaning. They all love to help so we give them a duster each and away they go.

Bellroyd · 03/02/2019 18:34

The younger the child, the less helpful they tend to be. First snd foremost, health and safety has to be the prime consideration, so never take yor eyes off them and don't allow them to do anything that they cannot do. Plenty of praise when they achieve though.

My DD loves to help me vacuum and sweep the floor! She has her own mini sweeping brush too.

Nikita90 · 03/02/2019 20:11

My toddler loves to copy me sweeping up! I've bought her a mini brush and dustpan & brush and she copies me the best she can!

Just today my little one kindly put his toys his away. And then ten minutes later kindly pulled them all out again

My daughter loves to help with the washing from putting it in the washer, to taking it our and helping to put it away

needtogiveitablow · 04/02/2019 10:55

My DD once saw me pouring the dregs of a can of Diet Coke down the sink. Now we have to keep them out of reach as she has taken to helping us by pouring them out wherever she finds them - including on a new cream carpet!

My 4 year old is also very 'helpful' and likes to make sure the washing is in the right basket (we just have 'lights' and 'darks') and enjoys helping me either put it on the airer after it's been in the machine, or passing me items to hang up if it's going on the washing line.

We've been potty training and he's doing really well. He's very keen do show me he can do it all by himself which is great but I dread the "mummaaaay, I done a poooo" song because I know by the time I get there he'll have emptied the potty out (maybe into the toilet, maybe into the general area around the toilet).

My daughter once "cleaned" the bathroom with just water and toilet paper. She was so pleased with herself I didn't mind about the bits of tissue stuck to every surface Smile

angiehoggett · 04/02/2019 16:03

they love sweeping up and sorting the laundy, they would hoover as well if they could push the thing but alas it's too heavy haha!

mynellie · 04/02/2019 16:37

my son cleaned a mess on his bedroom carpet little did i know it was with a whole bottle of baby shampoo and every time i tried to get the stiffness out of the carpet it bubbled, I didn't have the heart to be mad as at least he tried and the stain did disappear

DassDass · 04/02/2019 18:10

My little one has just learned how to open the kitchen bin....which means she loves helping by emptying it (all over the floor...argh!)

user1485629191 · 04/02/2019 18:30

My little one loves hoovering and will 'help' me Hoover by dragging his toy Hoover around behind me!

mishknight · 04/02/2019 20:17

The day after moving to our current house with it's new carpet, my DD though it would be nice to 'clean' the carpet and walls with her greasy eczema cream

jandoc · 04/02/2019 22:14

oh bless them, they think that by picking something up then sitting it down in another room is helping.

tillymint21 · 04/02/2019 22:21

Helping with laundry was always popular with my daughter, but we ended up with major colour-run disasters on more than one occasion when she smuggled bright colours into white washes.

defineme · 04/02/2019 22:26

They like skating on tea towels to dry the floor for me after mopping and the feather duster is fought over for dusting.

gozocat · 05/02/2019 01:43

My now 5 and a half year old boy still loves to clean the bath and surrounding tiles for me by rubbing a well softened bar of soap all over said surfaces, and deep into the grouting/crevices etc. You get the picture! It drives me insane.....inside......but I grin and bear it knowing he just loves to help!

NerrSnerr · 05/02/2019 04:02

My nearly 2 year old will close every cupboard or drawer in the kitchen, even if you're still using it. I swear he can hear you open them from miles away and comes toddling through to shut them.

SillyMoomin · 05/02/2019 06:10

My 4 year old loves to dust whilst I polish wooden furniture in our living room

Then one day as I was polishing she took it upon herself to spray polish and rub it into the wooden flooring in the hall to “help mummy”

Reader: I almost broke my neck!

My husband tried to get our two pairing up socks when they came out of the tumble dryer once, turning it into a game/competiton - needless to say, they were all paired up incorrectly, odd socks for weeks.

The worst bit of ''help' my son did as a toddler though was when my husband was installing a new sink in the bathroom - DS posted a screwdriver down the pipe before the basin was installed and it got stuck in the bend at the bottom. The whole pipe had to be cut off to get it out. I had to remove DS from the bathroom for his safety, ha ha!
