Deodorant for a lot of people is a staple in their daily routine and there will come a time when you have to buy your child/children their first deodorant too, if you haven’t already! Therefore Dove would love to find out about all your experiences and preferences when it comes to deodorant for both your child and yourself.

Here’s what Dove have to say: “At Dove, all of our anti-perspirant products deliver reliable all day protection against sweat and odour with a gentle formula, which cares for delicate underarm skin. We know that you want to make the best choices for your teenagers when it comes to the products they use on their skin. We want to hear what is important to you when it comes to selecting products for yourself and your teenagers!”

What deodorant do you buy and why? Did you buy a specific kind of deodorant for your child’s first one? Did you have a chat with your child on how and why they needed to start using it? Do you or your child prefer spray, roll-on or stick? Are there any scents you love or do you go for the ones without scents? What is the most important factor for you when buying a deodorant for yourself and/or your child? What about anti-mark deodorants?

Whatever you and/or your child’s experiences are around deodorant, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I use mum roll on and try to get the unperfumed one. My daughter started with that but when older changed to sprays.

star8 · 16/09/2018 21:05

fave and only one i use now is Mitchum
Only brand that works. Have tried dove didnt get on with it. didnt like the white marks on it but like the smell

Gill81uk · 16/09/2018 21:47

I stick with Sanex roll on. I won't use sprays due to breast cancer in the family. I found after having babies I sweated a lot more and this was the only deodorant that I found worked well. I also like that it doesnt damage my clothes. I had to stop using Sure due the stiff armpits!

runkaterun · 16/09/2018 22:38

I switched to pitrock when I was breastfeeding my first. She kept putting her hands in my armpits and I didn't like it

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 16/09/2018 23:00

I don’t use antiperspirant at all. We are meant to sweat

I hate this masking of normal bodily functions. Like including perfume in sanitary towels

IceBearRocks · 17/09/2018 07:32

Mitchum family here too. When DS started needed deodorant I bought the natural ones but that just didn't mask teenage boy smell!!!
DH uses a dove spray now and again if it's on offer. DS and I use roll on...I prefer and feel more confident and DS can't take aerosols into school!

Myself and my husband always use Mitchum. No other deodorant seems to work. Powderfresh is my favourite scent.

For my daughters, when they first needed them I bought Jason deodorant from Wholefoods - I wanted them to have something more natural on their young skin. It didn't work though :( Recently I've been buying them Soft & Gentle as that has no aluminium in and that seems to be working.

Gucci

We tend to use roll on as the sprays can set off my asthma.

HannahLI · 17/09/2018 12:23

I buy the dove 48 hour protection because its so kind to my skin and I don't react to it like other deodarants but it also does a really good job. I prefer a cream stick as it goes on better. I do hate deodarant marks on clothes so I am carefully to make sure it has time to dry before I put my clothes on just in case. I don't like aerols as they upset my chest and make me wheeze.

llynnnn · 17/09/2018 13:19

I bought my dd1 a roll on Simple deodorant when she first asked me for one (she was about 10 and didnt really NEED it then). As she got older I now buy her a spray which I find more effective, I don't tend to stick to a specific brand, just grab which ever is on offer, have bought Dove though and do like it, think we have Sure at the moment!

m0jit0 · 17/09/2018 13:24

My go to deodorant is dove original spray on (blue top). It does the job and I like the smell.

CamelFlarge · 17/09/2018 15:14

I prefer Mitcham unscented stick. I'm allergic to a lot of perfumes, but REALLY need the extra antiperspirant protection! I love the smell of Dove but my skin disagrees :(

ThreeTimesMama · 17/09/2018 17:27

I use Dove roll on. Love it. It is not irritating my skin and smell is very fresh. For my daughter bought herbal one, but she didn't really like it so thinking to buy Dove for her too.

Gynlais · 17/09/2018 18:12

I always use Dove roll on. It smells fresh and clean and works really well. My husband and boys love Lynx.

elizaco · 17/09/2018 18:41

I prefer spray but my daughters prefer roll-on. Tend to buy whatever brand is on offer at the supermarket, but Dove has the nicest fragrance so always pleased when that's the best priced!

Minnibix · 17/09/2018 18:44

I don't think kids should or need to use deodorant so I presume we are talking about teens, my partner has sensitive skin and the only deodorant that does not make him itch like mad is Dove, so I would probable by this for my teens as it does seems gentle

Teaspoon74 · 17/09/2018 19:20

I find it really hard to find lightly fragranced deodorant that doesn’t leave a residue. Dove has certainly improved, but Vaseline and Nivea are other faves. Sure is a no-go!

Parentingsortof · 17/09/2018 22:15

Mitchum deodorant for me, sadly Dove is not strong enough, however i still love the smell as it reminds me of my late Nana

buckley1983 · 17/09/2018 23:27

I've recently switched to Dove from Sure. I've opted for the stick & the spray - I've always used roll on & spray prior to this, so the Dove stick is something of a revelation!
It definitely feels more gentle, it smells gorgeous & I don't get that sticky feeling.
I like a nice fragrance, but the priority for me is that it works - so if it's unfragranced but effective, I'd go for that every time.
My little boy is 5, so doesn't have the need for deodorant yet - although he often asks what I'm doing & why when he sees me putting it on!

Claudia84 · 18/09/2018 07:23

I use Sanex. I like that the smell isn’t too strong and also prefer a roll on. Don’t like sprays as I hate the stink they leave behind (got OH to use a roll on as well now because urgh men’s spray deodorant)
Have tried Dove before and it’s fine but I don’t like the cream sticks as a poster says before it’s a waste of product at the end and I don’t like the cakey feeling under arms. Prefer the clear gel types

DontFundHate · 18/09/2018 09:28

What deodorant do you buy and why?

Sure , it's reliable

Did you buy a specific kind of deodorant for your child’s first one?

Not using deodorant yet

Did you have a chat with your child on how and why they needed to start using it?

N/A

Do you or your child prefer spray, roll-on or stick?

I prefer spray

Are there any scents you love or do you go for the ones without scents?

Unscented

What is the most important factor for you when buying a deodorant for yourself and/or your child?

Stops me feeling wet!

What about anti-mark deodorants?

I just dress carefully, sure seems ok but does leave white marks if I'm not careful! But its not something I look for in a deodorant

Additional comments...

I don't tend to buy dove deodorants as they smell like dove, I don't really like scented deodorants - that's what perfume is for! I also lean away from dove since their appalling baby dove campaign which had some made up anti - breastfeeding stats. I won't be buying their products until they apologise, which they never did so I won't be holding my breath!
