Having a baby for the first time can be quite a daunting experience, especially when it comes to ensuring you’re fully kitted out with everything you need. What to buy? What not to buy? What actually works? What is actually worthing spending money on? Mumsnet would love you to take a look at the products on our new reviews section and choose your favourite.

Here’s what Mumsnet has to say: “Mumsnet, has relaunched its independent Reviews section as part of its mission to make parents’ lives easier - by helping you choose the best products for pregnancy, babies and toddlers.

The new Reviews section features both new products and Mumsnet user favourites, all tested by real parents in real-life situations (not in a lab). Unlike other reviews sites, brands don't pay to be reviewed; products are selected after extensive research into market bestsellers, expert advice and the opinions of Mumsnet users. During testing, products are pushed to the limit to make sure they will serve new parents well.

There are currently 19 review categories — including travel systems, changing bags, maternity bras and high chairs — each feature a buyers’ guide, and up to five ‘Mumsnet Best’ products. These include the overall winner and winners of more specific sub-categories (e.g. “best for small homes” in the strollers category).”

Whatever your favourite item product is, post the link to it on the thread below and you’ll be in with the chance of winning one of the following prizes:

Thanks and good luck!

This bathseat was brilliant when bathing DD. She loved bath times right from the first time using this. It also made it a lot easier to wash her if I was at home on my own.

Would it not be more useful having prizes that are useful for non newborns? If you have found a useful item product for your baby, you probably don't have a newborn to use the prizes with.

I have a 3 week old and I've found the schnuggle bath with the stand invaluable. I don't need to bend down in the bath when bathing her which is great for my back. It's small and snug so baby loves it too.

Genuinely best thing is a big cotton scarf.... Can be used as a changing mat, improvised high chair to strap baby or toddler to a restaurant chair, picnic blanket, sun shade, blanket if cold.
Attached is toddler son in an improvised baby carrier when he was not able to walk and we were without a buggy. Obviously I wasnt relying on it to take full weight but a lot easier than just carrying him.
I've had 4 children and have to say most "baby products" are a waste of money save your cash and spend on decent skin care and nice candles.
And scarf cost a tenner from h and m :) //www.hm.com

My lovely freerider sling has been an absolute lifesaver for me since I’ve had my baby!! I had a beautiful boy who was not happy at being put down at any point during the day so I used to have to wear him in my sling all day long - it was amazing because it kept him quiet and allowed him to sleep when he needed to while I was able to easily get out and about without him becoming upset. As well as being a great sling these ones have beautiful patterns and I always get lots of comments on my charcoal one!

Cheeky wipes!

Did not expect them to be so integral to my parenting life but at 2.5yrs I'm still using them. Probably joy even used a full pack of normal wipes since he was born.

The pebble plus is by far one of our best baby buys. Love how easy it is to click into the base and that the beep and green lights let you know it is fitted correctly.

For a later stage of your child-raising journey, but these high back booster seats are amazing and it changed our experience of getting in the car for the better- from a daily struggle to get my daughter to sit on her seat to an easy hop in. She loves it, it's very safe and it will grow with her.

I love our Tripp Trapp! Velcro baby would never sit in a bouncer, only gets a few minutes in a jumperoo and you can forget even thinking of setting her on floor. For some reason she loves her high chair.... sits and watches everything going on while I cook and then gets to eat with the big people!

I'm meant to post the link aren't I! I could choose any stokke but the chair is still with us x 2 and that's after a decade! Can't see either of them leaving for at least another few years so that's got to be one of the best value kids items ever.

The Ergobaby. So handy for getting stuff done around the house, helping baby get to sleep, speeding up the school run. I had a Stokke MyCarrier before the Ergo but didn't get on with it, I find the Ergo much more comfortable. The Caboo was better for the newborn stage though, so soft and snuggly!

This car seat has totally saved my back, I'd have really struggled getting DS in and out without it, the swivel is so good and easy to use and he's still rear facing in it at 2.8 and will be for a while yet at average height. It is pricey and we had trouble finding it when we bought it as it had just come out but it has been worth it for us.

In the summer- string bikinis (with removable padding sections for breast pads) under a button up dress, but for the winter a decent breast feeding Bra (hot milk are good).
I would also not want to be without a decent pram- I found the Jane crosswalk the best.

We recently moved from the U.S. to the U.K., and unloaded ALL of our baby items before we sold our house. On the week of our move, we had a massive surprise in discovering we were expecting our third child - a boy (due in just two months)! With our first two children, we were really liberal and loose when it came to buying. Having to completely start over on baby items and being in a smaller house, we've really had to put thought into what we do and don't need this time. Below is our "must have" list!

  1. Soft, stylish muslin swaddles for baby (they're comfortable for baby, and super practical as a make-shift breastfeeding cover, sun protection, protection whilst out so strangers don't touch baby, etc.)
  2. High-quality, super-absorbent muslin burp cloths and a few bibs.
  3. A stylish, high-quality stroller that is lightweight, easy to maneuver and travels well. Oh, and having a large storage basket on the stroller is a must!
  4. A soft, fabric baby carrier for the first few months, and a sturdy, more supportive carrier for wearing later on.
  5. A comfortable, lightweight, stylish baby bouncer that can easily be moved around the house.
  6. Safe, soft sleep sacks to keep baby cozy and safe through the night.
  7. Great baby books!
