Watch With Mumsnet, in association with Netflix, is back again this month – this time, with the critically-acclaimed series Breaking Bad, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying television shows ever to have come out of the US.

Breaking Bad follows Emmy award-winner Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a high school science teacher diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who, in order to support his family, teams up with a former student to manufacture and sell crystal meth. Millions tuned in to the epic finale last year; no surprise that Mumsnetters were among them.

Here’s what Mumsnetters had to say about Breaking Bad:

• "It's amazing - one of the most original dramas I've come across."

• "One of the best TV series ever … I loved it. The cast, the script, the acting...everything."

• "Now I've finished it, I realise it's almost as good as The Wire - so it's one of the best things I've ever watched on TV."

• "Just finished the last episode of Breaking Bad. It was intense. We've been watching at least one episode every night, sometimes three!"

With all five seasons available to watch on Netflix now, your viewing is sorted for the coming months (and, yes: we give you permission to binge-watch). Just come back to this thread and let us know what you think; everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a competition to win an Xbox One console.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

I have a bit of a crush on Hank Blush.

ToffeeWhirl · 05/04/2014 09:12

CraftyBuddhist - brilliant analysis! I think you're right about the 'Everyman' aspect.

Marg2k8 · 05/04/2014 16:50

I have not seen it, but perhaps after reading this thread, I will.

RandomMess · 05/04/2014 20:02

I just love the whole series. See the characters deterioate into something they never thought they could become.

Merguez · 05/04/2014 20:20

This thread is a bit pointless, because it would be nice to discuss some of the deeper issues and plot twists that happen - but you can't because everyone is at a different stage of watching.

So instead we have to settle for a lot of bland "Isn't it great, I love x and y and hate z" type comments.

I liked the blogs the Guardian ran after each episode of Mad Men, a much more satisfying way of watching a box set than this.

RedBlanket · 05/04/2014 21:08

Merguez - I agree. I don't want to read the whole thread in case I read a spoiler, and I don't want to post about major plot twists in case I spoil it for someone else.

Surely the whole point of the 'watch with' thread is that we can discuss what's happening at the same time (like The Apprentice, strictly, BGT etc)

there goes my chance of the prize

Compermo · 06/04/2014 13:57

I haven't seen this yet, but your reviews have got me intrigued. I will have to watch it now, can't wait!

melvis · 06/04/2014 19:36

Breaking Bad is literally the best thing I've ever watched on TV, I was hooked from day 1. We watched it on Netflix over 2 months, with me cramming as many episodes in as we could when Mr Melvis was off shifts!! I thought it dragged a little in season 4 but overall was amazing throughout. I'm looking forward to the Better Call Saul spin off series as Mike will be back and he was my favourite :) x

Saul is one of my favourite characters.

claza93 · 06/04/2014 20:28

Best thing I have watched in a looooonnnnnnng time! I'm usually asleep by 9 most nights....we were still watching this at nearly midnight contemplating watching just one more!
Finished it just in time for Game of Thrones to start on Monday!! Yippee

JoJoBaldwin · 06/04/2014 21:51

So many OMG moments, and just so original in every way. Really loved this series and feel bereft now it's gone!

nemno · 06/04/2014 22:01

My whole family loved this. There were character developments and plot lines that stretched credulity too far but it was always entertaining. It was just great to watch something so original.

kateminx · 06/04/2014 22:09

I enjoyed it immensely - so much so that after two weeks I felt withdrawl setting in and started watching all over again!

Alchemist · 06/04/2014 22:29

Just finished it.

I'm sad on so many levels. Brilliant, bitch.

ridmat · 06/04/2014 23:31

Lots of people have told me to watch Breaking Bad. This thread has made me even more determined to do actually do it.

Pinktilgate · 07/04/2014 01:00

I am very very nearly finished the final season of Breaking Bad and I have loved every single minute of it!! It is by far, the best series I have ever watched!!! It also helps that Jesse Pinkman is very easy on the eye also! ;)

BreakingDad77 · 08/04/2014 12:58

Got a netflix trial via my Virgin and was eager to see this, are now up to Season 5, been watching episodes while my little man sleeps after feeds.

Good set of characters no real bit players, Jesse and Walt begin with having "all the gear and no idea" though by the end this has flipped! Saul makes me laugh, Mikes brooding journeyman also.

In the first series you have Walt flashbacks "weight of the soul?) to when he was a researcher but this seems to not be continued at all or much more about his previous life.

Heidipiedy · 08/04/2014 21:39

I love breaking bad, just started season four and am hooked, have regular marathons, won't be long until the final and I've heard great things, can't wait..... Although bittersweet as it means no more.......time to start again!

RhondaJean · 08/04/2014 21:42

We are suffering real breaking bad withdrawal. DH in particular is finding it really hard.

We have watched the latest series of boardwalk empire, and are just starting true detective, but to him nothing is living up.

omgitslani · 08/04/2014 22:54

For everyone who has started it and finds it slow to get in to: STICK WITH IT! It is sooo good, I powered through it all and found that I was staying up late to watch extra episodes!

Merguez · 09/04/2014 17:46

I don't really see how anyone could find it slow to begin with!

Gory, certainly, but the plot moves at a roller coaster pace. And full of moments of great silliness, which I love too. The bit with the bath just beggared belief!!

dwilks · 09/04/2014 19:02

Never watched it, I've got too much in my sky planner already!!!

Alchemist · 09/04/2014 20:21

I was hooked straight away. I mean, the beginning of ep 1 and the end of ep 1! Only two films for me have had the same impact. I adore Buffy but watched it once a week, luckily BB was my first box set and I am still so pleased Smile. Each episode was a perfect film.

I liked the ending but I think I will love it when I watch again.

Still love Hank Thanks.

Alchemist · 09/04/2014 20:23

The films are The Godfather and Goodfellas Blush.

Am watching HIMYM and there's Walt! But not Walt Sad.

pattiesplum · 09/04/2014 23:10

Watched 2 episodes but wondering if it is worth my time. Finding it so very slow.

Have heard so many people say its great but will give it one more episode and decide if it is for me.
