Watch With Mumsnet, in association with Netflix, is back again this month – this time, with the critically-acclaimed series Breaking Bad, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying television shows ever to have come out of the US.

Breaking Bad follows Emmy award-winner Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a high school science teacher diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who, in order to support his family, teams up with a former student to manufacture and sell crystal meth. Millions tuned in to the epic finale last year; no surprise that Mumsnetters were among them.

Here’s what Mumsnetters had to say about Breaking Bad:

• "It's amazing - one of the most original dramas I've come across."

• "One of the best TV series ever … I loved it. The cast, the script, the acting...everything."

• "Now I've finished it, I realise it's almost as good as The Wire - so it's one of the best things I've ever watched on TV."

• "Just finished the last episode of Breaking Bad. It was intense. We've been watching at least one episode every night, sometimes three!"

With all five seasons available to watch on Netflix now, your viewing is sorted for the coming months (and, yes: we give you permission to binge-watch). Just come back to this thread and let us know what you think; everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a competition to win an Xbox One console.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

You do realise in risk becoming obsessed?

I know all the words to the musical episode of Buffy and have still not recovered from Dexter (thanks Netflix) ending!!?

ToffeeWhirl · 20/03/2014 22:18

Of course you'll be obsessed, Twinkly. But you'll be glad you've joined us...

Having watch all of Breaking Bad, I can say it is one of the best TV series along with 24 to come out. I hope that they keep up the good work.
Thanks for doing It.

I've been waiting for this one to be discussed, my absolute favourite. I have watched it all twice now and wouldnt mind a third time! We have been running through the 2nd time within 2 weeks, you just can't stop, unless its really really bed time :)

The whole series seems amazingly real and well researched, the cast is perfect and a lot of detail was put into working out the characters. The story lines send you on a rollercoaster of emotions and I experienced liking and disliking certain main characters throughout the whole series. Some episodes make you happy, but some make you well upset and angry. If you are looking for something light hearted, then this one is not for you. If you are looking for something engaging, thrilling, emotional and even funny in places, here you go!

AryaOfHouseSnark · 21/03/2014 12:35

I love breaking bad. We binge watched the first 5 series, then had to wait an excruciating few months after the cliff hanging ending of series 5.
I miss watching it, and keep on saying I will watch it again from the beginning.

Chantybanty · 21/03/2014 19:11

Like others have said it is slow to start but do stick it out. I've watched the entire thing and it has been one of the best programmes I've watched in a while!

Ellajuliana · 21/03/2014 21:29

I started watching Breaking Bad on Netflix after a suggestion from a friend, I am not normally a tv watcher so I reluctantly watched..after the first episode I was hooked, and I mean hooked, I watched all 5 seasons in less then 2 weeks, I thought my life was over when I finished Grin every aspect of Breaking Bad was just stunning, the acting was the best I'd ever seen, Walt and Jesse are by far my favourite duo in tv history! (also I named my youngest son Flynn).

Dark, scary, laugh out loud funny, emotional, shocking etc it had it all, no series will ever have me gripped like that again!

TwinklyMummaLuvsHerBubba89 · 22/03/2014 11:06

OK, episode 4 watched and now there's a bit more back story coming out (Jessie) my attention has been caught!

mswoowoo · 22/03/2014 12:06

BB is prob one of the greatest shows ever made... the depth of the character's stories, and the

Science bitch!! One of my favourite ever series. So jealous of you all watching this for the first time. Favourite character is Jesse. Not a fan of Skylar at all.

woodchuck · 22/03/2014 13:32

I love Breaking bad! i watched it as soon as it came on Netflix, and am about to re-watch. I don't usually watch a boxset again, but I think with BB, there was a lot of subtelties that I missed the first time round, and when i re-watch I will be "Oh, that makes perfect sense now"

I loved all the characters, especially Jesse and Hank (Schrader-brau!)

Like a lot of people, I thought it started slow, but once it got going I was hooked, and could easily watch 4 or 5 episodes an evening if I had time. maybe there should be some kind of support group for BB addicts?

I have since recommende BB to EVERYONE I know, and my sister is currently hooked, watching for the first time.

hoppityhoppity · 22/03/2014 14:07

Loved it loved it loved it
Was gripped from episode one and maybe unusually did not find it slow/hard to get into. I loved the pacing, the mundanity of Walt's normal life compared to the extremes of his new life. Loved the depths of the characters and the playing with the viewer's allegiances. Have I said I loved it?

MissRee · 22/03/2014 14:34

We watched BB on Netflix and we're hooked after the first few episodes! Watching the loveable rogue Jesse with all his trouble, pain and demons develop and change throughout the series was both gripping and fascinating.

You can't help but feel sorry for Walt's plight as he tries to do his best for his struggling family in the face of such a cruel disease but in the worst possible way!

MissRee · 22/03/2014 14:36

we've now moved on to Heroes from the beginning Grin

nobutreally · 22/03/2014 14:49

We've been watching this on Netflix since Christmas. Personally, I did fund it slo going, and the slow Shakespearean descent means I can't watch too many at once! But it is great - beautiful cinematography, great, complex characters. I'd love more female characters (although skyler, having annoyed me for a series r so, is coming good at the mo) but otherwise, pretty faultless....

MakkaPakkasSponge · 22/03/2014 14:57

Love Breaking Bad so much. I've been there right from the start when it was shown on 5USA (I think?). Me and DH were gutted when they stopped showing it in the UK but have obviously caught up on Netflix since then.
The cinematography is beautiful, a lot of thought has gone into it and as a fellow chemist, the science is pretty accurate too. I'd go with Walt's synthesis if I was that way inclined.
Someone told me Walt gets more badass as his hair gets shorter. So true!

I liked the ending too but that's all I'm saying.

Hopasholic · 22/03/2014 15:00

I've just signed up for the Netflix free month trial in order to watch! Don't think I'll mange to get through all of them in a month though! Will report back.........

42notTrendy · 22/03/2014 15:32

We've just started series 1. I found the first 3/4 episodes very oppressive and found it hard to watch (I'm quite an innocent naive soul Grin). However, I'm beginning to enjoy it more now, and laughed quite a lot at the last one we watched. I can appreciate the quality of script and acting, but I'm not quite at the 'in love' stage with it. Although I am a little 'in love' with Jesse Grin.
We watch one or two a week.

chocoluvva · 22/03/2014 15:49

Oooh - a BB thread!

I watched the first series recently. I agree with Fairylea about it being the best Tv I've ever watched.

My favourite line was Walt yelling at Jesse, "you didn't do what I told you" when he had used the bath instead of containers - so like a teacher to a careless pupil.

So much to praise as others have said: cinematography, script, character development, plot, humour, music, acting.

Can't wait to see the next series.

AHardDaysWrite · 22/03/2014 16:33

We have five episodes left to watch and I'm torn between wanting to binge on them all at once or space them out so it's not over soon. It's genius television, pure and simple. I love the detail they put in - not being afraid to do a whole episode about a fly, for example.

CMP69 · 22/03/2014 16:56

We are on S2 E5 I think. So far so fab u lous Grin

SaltySeaBird · 22/03/2014 17:17

Breaking Bad is one of the best TV series I've ever seen. The way that Walter White evolves is fantastic.

The show just got better and better, I'm so sad it's finished, but it went out well.

SouthernHippyChick · 22/03/2014 17:24

I appreciate its tight script, quirky storyline, great acting.. Breath of fresh air. But i just don't find such violent programmes enjoyable, full stop. Would rather watch mindlessly entertaining but more innocent stuff or nothing at all.

ProfYaffle · 22/03/2014 17:40

I'm sick with envy of the people who haven't watched it and have it all to come! We've just got to the end of series 5 and are having trouble letting go of it, suffice to say dh has ordered a pork pie hat and grown a goatee.
