Watch With Mumsnet, in association with Netflix, is back again this month – this time, with the critically-acclaimed series Breaking Bad, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying television shows ever to have come out of the US.

Breaking Bad follows Emmy award-winner Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a high school science teacher diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who, in order to support his family, teams up with a former student to manufacture and sell crystal meth. Millions tuned in to the epic finale last year; no surprise that Mumsnetters were among them.

Here’s what Mumsnetters had to say about Breaking Bad:

• "It's amazing - one of the most original dramas I've come across."

• "One of the best TV series ever … I loved it. The cast, the script, the acting...everything."

• "Now I've finished it, I realise it's almost as good as The Wire - so it's one of the best things I've ever watched on TV."

• "Just finished the last episode of Breaking Bad. It was intense. We've been watching at least one episode every night, sometimes three!"

With all five seasons available to watch on Netflix now, your viewing is sorted for the coming months (and, yes: we give you permission to binge-watch). Just come back to this thread and let us know what you think; everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a competition to win an Xbox One console.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

I've seen the whole series and it really is as good as the hype. Jesse and Walter completely change as people as the series move forward and end up the complete opposite of what they were.
It's different, gripping and a series I will definitely watch again, I can't wait for the Saul spin off :D

Annbunce · 02/04/2014 21:38

How addictive is Breaking Bad? Took awhile to get into it, but worth sticking it out x

twinklenic · 02/04/2014 21:59

i wont spoil it for anyone but my hubby made me watch all of breaking bad within abour 2 weeks, we had it on EVERY night!! i wasnt keen at first but Jesse grew on me :) i really loved the story and the ending too .... once you start watching youll be addicted ! Hubby got netflix just for this one show!

arat · 02/04/2014 22:08

Started watching it but found it a bit slow so have stalled a little for now. After reading these comments, must find time to persevere!

patchysmum · 03/04/2014 03:43

I loved it all! the characters the actors, the great storyline even the ending was superb,I was so pleased as it is not always the case in some American series.

bringans · 03/04/2014 05:32

ToffeeWhirl :) so true, I am very much like that with books as well.

lionheart · 03/04/2014 10:41

Okay, will start this because I have just finished the last season of Damages and I need a distraction.

Good start!

Raasclark · 03/04/2014 11:18

Finished watching this last month.

Without a doubt the best bit of TV I've ever watched. Sucked me in to the point I couldn't stop watching episode after episode until I'd notice it was late into the morning!

The transformation of Walter White is just an epic tale that would give any blockbuster movie a run for it's money!

To even go into the plot would be a shame for others as it's an experience to not miss out on. But the episodes including Gus are probably my favs.

To the doubters, bear with it! It is a little slow for the first few episodes, but I promise you. YOU. WILL. BE. HOOKED.

lionheart · 03/04/2014 11:51

Loved the first episode and the opening, which I thought would be how the series ended, but turns out to be just the start. Neat trick.

Walter has put is a sellar peformace already.

Onwards.

nataljap123 · 03/04/2014 13:41

I did not like the finale episode, would love to see better ending for Walt

catwomanga · 03/04/2014 14:12

I've been watching Breaking Bad almost from when it started, and have been telling everyone how brilliant it is. I was intrigued that such unlikeable characters could be so compelling to watch.
Now watching it the second time round, I start to appreciate fully what makes these characters tick, and even started to feel compassion for Marie, the most annoying antagonist ever (she really is, isn't she?!) For me, the real star is Aaron Paul as 'Poor Jesse' as he became known in our household. He plays comedy and tragedy beautifully, and you really feel his pain.
Bryan Cranston is great; you can see he had the potential to be bad all from the very start, and his journey from 'Mr Chips to Scarface' (as it was pitched to TV execs) is fascinating. The only downside is I find it very disturbing to watch him now as the dad in the hilarious Malcolm in the Middle!
BB is a work of art, without the constraints of time and budget that other shows can suffer from. In Breaking Bad, Vince Gilligan has created a masterpiece that will be talked about in media studies classes for decades to come.

thedrunkenduck · 03/04/2014 14:18

Very, very disappointed with the ending. The last episode was rubbish.

They should of made the 3rd/4th to last episode should of been the last- no spoilers but I'm sure those who have seen know what I'm talking about.

And when Walt did what he did...I was convinced he was going to kill her.

thedrunkenduck · 03/04/2014 14:19

We shall have our fix again in September when better call Saul airs. The actor who played Hank is out, but Aaron Paul and Cranston want in apparently

thedrunkenduck · 03/04/2014 14:20

Lionheart. I envy you >

themitch21 · 03/04/2014 14:33

We're halfway through the last series now but I'm trying to drag it out as I've heard the finale is a bit disappointing. I hope not, as it would be a shame to end such a good series on a bum note.

thedrunkenduck · 03/04/2014 18:40

themitch21- the lead up is excellent and I was geared up for a great last episode but in comparison it was like "is that it??!" It wasn't bad TV- but definitely one of the worse episodes which has left me with a bit of a tainted view.

I just got the impression they had run out of ideas, had already grabbed their audience and didn't really care- plus I'm still convinced this spin off will be a mix of prequel and sequel. They can't just leave it as they did- but maybe that is wishful thinking

ser1 · 04/04/2014 18:47

I started watching it but got a bit board, but by the sounds of things i really should give it another go and try to stick with it.

RedBlanket · 04/04/2014 18:56

I'm halfway through season 2 and I really enjoy it so far.
I'm a bit nervous about reading this thread in case I read a spoiler that ruins the whole thing. My friend told me the ending is brilliant.
It completely passed me by when it was first on, but I think I prefer 'box set' style. It's easier to follow now I'm old and can't concentrate

lionheart · 04/04/2014 18:58

Now persuaded DP to give it a go (he watches hardly any tv) but liked the opening.

Will have to watch the first one over again and then keep going.

allsorts4444 · 04/04/2014 19:13

I thought it was a bit slow at first however by the third series I was hooked! By the last episode I was gutted that it was coming to an end! Now I am lost without it lol

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 04/04/2014 21:41

I'm a bit late to this party but OMG Breaking bad is amazing!!! DH and I started watching it and before we knew it, it was 3am and we were several episodes in. :)

I really didn't think I would like it but somehow I really, really do.

peakdale0121 · 05/04/2014 01:22

Amazing took me 2 weeks to watch the lot. Started off hating skylar and loving Walt. By the end I had nothing but sympathy for skylar and was wishing Walt would get his cumupence. I loathed him at the end. Actually went through a greiving process when I had finished all the episodes

Alchemist · 05/04/2014 07:55

So, DC with their father from last night, had an evening out and, as planned, am now eating a bacon sandwich, drinking coffee and settling down to watch the last 6 episodes.

Today is already good. Must be off, Breaking Bad is waiting Grin.
