Hi all. First time posting and slightly different questions. I filled in a change of circumstances form for my child who has a really rare genetic condition. I notified them the his condition has improved as we have been buying specially made shoes for him made in Italy and also that his skin condition has also improved by us keeping on top of exfoliating and dreaming, so I filled in the forms informing them of change - this was in May. I rang a month or so back asking if there's be an update as we are still being paid the same amount of DLA for him and we have been paid again today. They said that it still hadn't been passed to a case handler!!

My issue is that I'm concerned that they may want money back due to his care reducing. When I spoke to someone from DLA over the phone they said this wouldn't be the case but I'm not so sure I trust what the person was saying and have been putting the money to one side in case they ask for it back. We have been using the money to create footwear which enables him to walk correctly and that fit his feet correctly and he is in need of new pairs at the moment and I'm tempted to use the DLA money.

Any opinions on this?

Scan date 8/4

Seen so many posts of awards - so pleased for those successfully awarded. I have a bad feeling, nothing as yet, just waiting ; probably a letter saying no 🙄

Denzleos · 08/08/2024 16:36

I caved and called again today - they were lovely on the phone and said it is with a DM but no decision made yet. The wait is killing me and school holidays are crippling us financially. How long does it usually take for a decision to be made once with a DM?

Princess23 · 08/08/2024 16:59

Have you called to ask if a decision has been made? I tried 4 times today and kept getting cut off after 20 minutes

Ours is 16/04 but was told at the start of the week that it had been flagged as priority because we can’t access any support for my DD during the holidays as her SEN clubs only run term time and the holiday ones require you to be in receipt of DLA to get a place so I’m having to take loads of time off work, some holiday and some unpaid so struggling financially at the moment

I haven't called, no. I'm too anxious it will be a decline.

I’m hoping this helps people out a bit, scan date for my sons DLA was 5/4, he was awarded on the 2/8 and awarded MRC LRM. I rang up on Monday was told they couldn’t tell me over the phone and to wait for a letter. I received backpay from the 16/2 Wednesday morning. I rang again Wednesday and was put through to someone who could tell me what my son was awarded and then I received the award letter confirming this today so I’ve updated my uc. Overall it took took 17 weeks. Good luck to everyone still waiting I hope you get the answers you’re looking for soon x

Aw i hope its sorted soon for you. The holidays and change of routine can be so challenging for little ones. My daughters nurse came out today and said she would really benefit from a spinning seat as she has sensory issues and spins a lot, she said they are expensive so im hoping to get a decision soon so i can buy her one.

Scan date 5/4 and back pay went into my account over night. Would be 18 weeks wait today.
I will try and ring up today to find out what rates it was on. DS not long turned 3.

HangryLimeBeaker · 09/08/2024 08:54

@Mammymummymam there's something called a Family Fund. we have just applied for it for sensory toys, worth looking into! app.familyfund.org.uk

Scan date 08/04
so I just called, got straight through. Told that a decision hasn't been made and I'm to call back after 26th August if I haven't heard anything. He did tell me I would receive a text or phone call when a decision had been made. That implies I get a text either way? No clue. I'm kind of glad it wasn't a no but frustrated I still don't know.
Good luck everyone

If UC have verified the new changes regarding my son and him being awarded DLA does this mean the new elements will be added on to my new statement? My statement will be available from 15/08 or will it start from september?

Summermightbegreat · 09/08/2024 11:16

If you've sent extra evidence after your scan date, do you receive a text or letter confirming they've received the evidence? I'm having to move to a new house due to not driving (single mum, can't afford it) and need something closer to shops and bus stops as struggle with my DD bolting into the road and refusing to walk home from the bus stop (ten min walk) a lot of the times. It just all feels frustrating atm making all these changes and not knowing when or if things will improve. I mean I'm sure in my heart I know my DD is entitled to DLA, including the mobility part, but whether I have enough evidence to get it straight away, is something I just don't know. My scan date is early June and I want to ask them to make it a priority, due to needing to move house, but I also don't wanna hold anyone else up and the situation being so precarious makes me think, what if I wait and get the postive decision maker I was meant to get? I hate that it's all so ambiguous.

I don’t think moving house will make your application a priority as you can just update your address. Priority is for those that are experiencing severe financial hardship or can’t access other things because they are waiting. This will need to proved and will up to the DM to decide whether you’re entitled. Everybody that is awaiting a decision has a disabled child. If you sent evidence you can call to check if recieved. It’s always best to send tracked and signed for. Hopefully you will get the outcome you hope for in the end, if you’re not happy with it then you can appeal.

No my point was that the cost of moving house is putting me into hardship, nothing to do with changing address. I'm a single parent on UC who can't work because my DD barely makes it to school every day. I'm only moving house because I need to make life easier for the two of us, as we struggle to get out and about where we live a walk from bus stops atm. I'm living on a credit card this month and there's no co parent involved.

I understand. Some councils do offer grants that have quick turnarounds in those circumstances for moving. I don’t think you should look too much into getting a “good” decision maker, if you feel as though your situation benefits from priority you should do it. However even priority have ques so there’s no timeframe on which you will be given a decision.
