So mines be refused!!! My poor 4 year has a speech delay. She gets frustrated and constantly has meltdowns. She doesn’t sleep. She’s waiting for an autism assessment. She has no danger awareness. Speech therapy have discharged her cause she’s gone from 5 words to 30. I’m sick of fighting a shitty system that’s failing my child! I’m so angry 🥲

This is horrible definitely do a MR I no the feeling of having to fight daily for your children and these systems don’t make it any easier on us parents already dealing with a SN child our lives are hard enough without them adding to it sending hugs ❤️ can I ask how long you’ve waited before they declined you x

I was awarded last Friday and updated UC straight away, they didn't respond to me either. I started messaging on my journal daily and this morning i've finally had a response.

all they said was that my change of circumstances had been completed correctly and that my case is with a specialist team to confirm my sons MRC award. I asked twice about back payment and she kind of ignored that bit, so I will go back and ask again.

So you received your award letter from DLA? i'm waiting for that fingers crossed it arrives today

Hi hun , I received Matthews letter yesterday with his award amounts and dates. I have taken it to the school for them to get a copy then today I got Thomas’s telling me that they have turned him down but I have already spoke to them at a different department to do a MR. X

Hi everyone, first time posting in this thread. My scan date is 6th March ‘24. I’ve had 2 letters so far, no text.

Congrats to all recently awarded 💫

Happy to share some details: I called for the DLA form in November, had a return deadline of mid-December however went into early labour with DC2 and didn’t end up posting back until late Feb. I used the freepost method. My son has a diagnosis of ASD and GDD. I only included copy of the paeds report with his diagnosis which was multidisciplinary and includes short statements from SLT and nursery. He’s since seen OT and Ed Psyc and we now have those reports - considering calling next week to see if it’s worth adding them as fresh evidence.

I probably could have put more effort in to the form but it’s so draining. Eager to see if he will be awarded.

Hi all, an update to say we were awarded today for my DS. Money has hit account but no text and obviously no letter yet.

Scan date 6th March, I called on 7th June and explained I’m on maternity allowance with DC2 which is due to end in July and I won’t be returning to work.

Spoke to a really nice lady using the 5-2-1 avenue (didn’t get her name) who updated me that our application was due to be looked at by end of July but she would write to case manager to ask if it could be looked at by end of June instead.

Not sure of rates, if I get time I’ll call next week to enquire. Otherwise wait for the letter.

Good luck everyone filling in the forms and waiting on a decision.

CeePee23 · 13/06/2024 15:03

Just got a text to say that they’ve decided my son qualifies! Was so worried it would be refused as he has a condition that’s not really recognised by the nhs. No idea what he’s been awarded as I’m at work so can’t phone.

Scan date 22/02.

Phoned earlier this week to be told it wasn’t going to a decision maker until Friday so pleasantly surprised to receive a decision.

Just enquiring here. Haven't been awarded but if my daughter was to be classes as high rate care would that mean that universal credit pay £498 I think I saw and does it get backdated?
Just trying to work amounts out.
Thank u in advance x

Yes it would get backdated to when your dla award started.
Can be a bit of a wait for them to do the backdated payment on UC but they will add it on for the current period when you notify them.
Also you can get a carers element. Also get that backdated too.
I've popped a pic on here explaining how to add it all and also put a note in journal asking for it to be backdated ( example below)
I used these to help and all went smoothly

Make the change on your UC
account(shown in pic) then head over to your
journal and copy, paste, edit to suit
you and post
"Hello,
I have just made the change for my
child name as disabled from date
as that is when I applied for her/his
DLA unfortunately due to high
demands and a little bit of a back log
it has taken this long for a decision
maker to make their decision on the
award could his/her disabled element please
be back dated to date and could
the carers element also be back
dated to the same date.
Many thanks"

I hope that helps. Please feel free to pass this info on to anyone else who may find it helpful

I went through this process last year - took 18 1/2 weeks and absolute torture. I'm now waiting for my other child and on 15 weeks + 1 day. They seem to be processing slightly quicker this time round. The 15 weeks letter you got, apparently they were "going to change that" last year because it's rubbish. Looking at the current pattern, about week 14/15 you'll get a text saying they're still looking at the claim. Shortly after that it will be sent to a decision maker. From there it can be same day or 4 weeks before a decision is made. Some get a text to say they've been awarded but not everyone. I'd fight the urge to call until about 16 weeks, not many are going to find anything out before that. If awarded then it's 3 to 5 working days for the backpay to be in your account. So by 20 weeks, hopefully you'll have the money In your account. Once you know the rates, if you're on UC, you put a note for your work coach on your journal saying the dates / rates of dla and can it please be passed to a decision maker for backpay on disabled child element. ( Think you need to change child's circumstances too. ) Now the note you need to copy before sending. Then add another journal note under payments and paste. Work coaches can take weeks to get back to you, payments do it in days. Then it's about 2 weeks for uc backpay to be paid. Also do the same for carers element if you're not already getting it and change your circumstances to caring for the child from the date awarded dla.

This is the best response I’ve ever received from anyone about this. I can not thank you enough right now. This makes sense and I feel alittle bit like I know what I’m waiting for.

Is there anyone else that had the scan date 26th of Feb that is still waiting to hear back from DLA? Or has anyone with the same scan date as me got a decision back ?
I’m on 17 weeks on Monday and my patients can’t take it any longer 😫

Monkey1979 · 18/06/2024 09:37

Hi all, scan date 16/05. This was for a late renewal. I didn't get sent the renewal pack and then rang to get a pack which didn't turn up! After ringing for the third time the pack arrived. I rang them last week to be told the forms got to the DM but was on the system as late renewal they said the forms had to go back to the holding pile as it could be treated as a new claim. All very vague. I've just rang today to be told the form is being treated as renewal but it will be taking 12 weeks. Sorry for the waffle !!

Hello all!
Just want some advice really. I've recently sent off the DLA form for my son and it's been received the other day but obviously not scanned yet. I wanted to add some more information about this night time needs because I don't think I wrote enough ( was very daunting doing the whole form so may have forgotten some things) Can I send off additional information and I've read online something about including his DLA number if i send anything extra off. I've not got a DLA number for him so it is worth waiting until the form gets scanned and i receive a letter from them?

Thanks in advance :)

This is a old one their is new thread I will add it but ,,, to answer ur question the letter u will receive from dla will have a reference number on it this will be unique to your child and will become their national insurance number hope this helps its best to wait for the letter but you can also still send the extra information off but attach full name and date of birth at the top of it xhttps://www.mumsnet.com/talk/specialneeds/5095306-dla-wait-times-thread-46?page=28
