Hi hun no you get a letter saying something along the lines of thanks for your claim for dla we got it on the say 22/10 you do not need to do anything if your entitled to claim dla we will write to you and the date they give you on the letter to say they received it is your scan date so if it was the 22/10 then that would be your scan date hope this helps x

Hi everyone!
My child was awarded last week but I just wanted to come on here for some advice if that’s ok?
my little one is 4, he has started soiling himself, he’s got in to a habit of cleaning the bathroom with wet tissue before he uses the toilet and in that process he is opening his bowels in his pants. I can’t stop him from doing what he’s doing with the tissue cleaning because he goes in to complete meltdown, he’s done it twice this weekend already.
But yesterday, I was taking my other child to a theatre show so I’d arranged childcare with someone who my child is extremely familiar and close with. Yet he opened his bowels all over the hallway and smeared it everywhere (I mean everywhere)
has anyone experienced anything like this? I’m really unsure on what to do. My child is toilet trained but was much later than ‘expected’ i don’t even know where to turn for advice with things like this, could it be regression and the smearing be some form of separation anxiety? Any advice would be really appreciated x

Dukseysnana · 10/03/2024 20:39

@Lu2024 yes my grandson does this he is 8 he is going through an ehcp at the moment they think it's more a sensory issue linked to autism, although I agree separation could be an issue to as my grandson has separation anxiety I have learnt not to allow toilet on his own now a praise when he goes to the toilet appropriately I know people think how disgusting I've had the looks and heard the comments but hopefully they grow out of it sorry if not much help but I'm glad to tell you you are not the only one and you get the help needed

Hi hun I mentioned my son smearing poo everywhere to my Hv and other concerns such as urinating all over to he had meltDowns violence and other concerns she mentioned that it is common amongst autistic children & it’s sensory related im not sure if your child is going down this pathway which is why u was awarded dla but if not I would definitely speak to someone about it xx

Good luck!

For those still waiting and worried about evidence i think I've worked it out as he's been awarded HRC and LRM

He has no formal diagnosis yet but is suspected SPD, ADHD and autism.

All I sent was the form completed by me, an OT assessment I paid for to help him get what he needs at school whilst awaiting diagnosis and our pastoral plans from the school. I also sent a copy of the referral sent in to autism services to request assessment.

Sending good luck to everyone!

Vickyxxx · 11/03/2024 13:13

@kristie198 Did you manage to get through to them today?

Yes still nothing they said leave it about longer

mooneigh · 12/03/2024 13:55

It defiantly depends who you get looking at your claim. Some get awarded without a diagnoses and some send in lots of evidence but no formal diagnoses and get refused. It is a very unfair system let alone the waiting times.

My child was refused after waiting 19 weeks in 2023 as she does not have a formal diagnoses, so I then gathered even more evidence including SEND stuff and specialist evidence as she is classed as disabled. And finally get low rate although I am happy my daughter now gets something to support her and contribute towards her special treatments which we have to fund.

But it seems very unfair when there is others that have been awarded middle and high rate when they don't have a formal diagnoses either.

Definitely anyone who has been refused I know after the wait how disheartening it is but do the MR or appeal and hopefully your child will then get the support they need.

My scan date is the 20/11. On Monday they told me it was with the DM and to call back next Friday if I’d not heard anything. I’ve not heard anything so far
