Hi,

Does anyone know if universal credit back date the child disability element from when you first called dla for the claim form (which dla too will back date) or does uc child disability element start from the date dla make the award?

Thank you

Hi. This is so shit! I really wanna put a complaint in but feel I haven't waited as long as some on here. I only put it on my journal on 20th march ... and she did say 4 weeks but I feel like they do it on purpose to put people off x

I just had a response saying it was going to a decision maker, then asked if I needed extra bedroom for a care overnight 🤷 no it's just me that does everything FML

When did you ask them to backdate? uc are useless! X

I hope this makes sense… I currently get around £953 for myself and two children before work deductions. If I am entitled to DLA and request carers element and the disabled child element and that £953 amount increases will they still only take the £235 “take home pay” Thanks.

The disabled child element/severely disabled child element and carer element are added to the total of all the UC elements you are eligible for and then the earnings deduction is still deducted.

Hi. Has anyone has experience with how much backpack they give.
My son has been getting dla since 2021, UC was aware of his DLA when I called and asked about careers element, but no one told me about disabled child element. Would I get backpack that far back,
Thanks in advance. X

At the same rate as it currently stands at £235 as my actual earnings haven’t changed or do they take 55p off everything over £631? Thanks

55p for every pound you earn over £631 (if you don’t have a housing element) (going up to £673 for 24/25) will be deducted from the total of all the elements. Unless your earnings deduction currently wipes out the total of the elements the deduction won’t increase just because you have the carer and disabled child element.

Without knowing your earnings I can’t say if £235 is the correct deduction or not.

My earnings are £1,058 so £427 over threshold x 0.55 = £234.85 seems right?
thanks for your help x

I've asked for it be backdated since April 2021 still waiting for decision on backpack since 11th March hoping they do so I'd put in your journey since 2021
Hope that helps

Yes, that’s right.

It’s amazing what a complaint does. I complained yesterday after waiting 6 weeks and I’ve finally had the letter confirming they accept my change outside the assessment period

I used the link in this thread, can’t remember which page but if you have a flick through from the beginning it’s there somewhere. It’s really simple to do, asks you a few multiple choice questions and then asks your reason in your own words so I just put that the communication hadn’t been very good and that every time I contacted I felt fobbed off etc and then this morning I got a letter on my journal. Hopefully this helps for you :)

CoolLimeSheep · 08/04/2024 11:29

Just had my letter today of dm they've decided special circumstances apply so will receive back pay from 25/03/2021. Just to wait for amount be calculated

Misste · 08/04/2024 13:49

I've put a complaint in to UC. Basically just saying that I've had to wait 16 weeks for my son to be awarded DLA and now an unnecessary wait for the disabled child element to be backdated oh & the lack of communication is bad on UCs side (saw someone say that the other day)... they'll probably tell me to get lost but, I am just sick of waiting for the DWP in general x

So sorry I've been MIA. unwell baby has had me up the wall.
Good for you putting a complaint in. You should!! I've not heard anything since my threat to complain, but I've had the add on for the last pay period. Just need the rest of it now x

Misste · 08/04/2024 18:43

@KatexCR aww sorry your little one is poorly 🤒... yeh I've heard absolutely nothing back so I'll give it a few days lol... just getting impatient. Why should we have to wait so long, it's draining. I didn't think I'd be as bad once my son was awarded but this is doing my head in now haha xx

Cheers lovely, she's much better now thankfully. Back to having her full bottles again 🙌.
Its just ridiculous!! Something major needs to happen to get the ball rolling for making changes to the way they manage cases. I hope they hurry up because its not acceptable x

Hi guys done a change of circumstances last month as my daughter was awarded high rate. It was sent to a decision maker on the 8th march. Since then just been ignored when asked what’s going on. How long is the wait. I have just done a complaint because the communication is awful. Am starting to think they haven’t even sent it to a DM xx

Hi. I was told can take up to 4 weeks but other people have waited longer! It's a joke. I put a complaint in yesterday then read that it can take up to 15 working days for them to reply to that!! I've wrote twice on my journal now once on 4th April & also 8th April & had no reply whatsoever! Absolute piss take x

Tiredmummy1235 · 09/04/2024 10:24

@Misste it totally is. I done it over a month ago was sent to DM on the 8th march. Told I should have response by the 26th march. Haven’t heard nothing since wrote twice on journal. No response rang yesterday spoke to a girl who treated me like I was thick. Xx

Omg that's ridiculous!! I don't think it's fair to have to wait... as if the 16/17 weeks that we've waited for DLA wasn't long enough 🥱 I honestly just give up at this point. X
