Hi,

Does anyone know if universal credit back date the child disability element from when you first called dla for the claim form (which dla too will back date) or does uc child disability element start from the date dla make the award?

Thank you

I messaged yesterday and got a response of it’s now with a decision maker. It was sent on the 21/3. Is this a good sign that it will be a matter of days ?

If the decision maker got it on 21/03 then you're just over 3 weeks. I was 20/03 and still waiting. I wouldn't hold your breath for "days" especially when it's UC we're talking about 😭 haha xx

Hey has anyone else had this problem, I went to uc appointment with letters to verify my sons disability on 04/04, I’m due to get paid by them tomorrow and still no statement up. Have called them up twice and they keep just saying they’ll escalate it but still nothing! Unsure if it’s because there working out what they owe me etc? My son was diagnosed June last year and was only just made aware uc child disability element was a thing! X

Relaxinghammock · 10/04/2024 13:33

@Caitlinmckx all you can do is keep chasing and complain. It may take longer than a week to add the disabled child element (and carer element if relevant) though, so it may not be in this month’s payment.

However, I am slightly concerned by your mention of diagnosis. The disabled child element isn’t based on diagnosis. It is based on the child being in receipt of a disability benefit (DLA/PIP or CDP/ADP depending on age and where you live). Does DS receive such a benefit?

Hi. Yes I know that, I was just stating from when he was diagnosed last year that’s me only finding out about the disability element? No one really tells you these things! Yeah I went with his award letter for cdp! X

Relaxinghammock · 10/04/2024 13:42

@Caitlinmckx that’s good news. I just thought I would check since it isn’t based on diagnosis but on receiving the right benefits which are based on needs rather than diagnosis. Some people think a diagnosis makes them eligible and are disappointed when they find out otherwise, glad that doesn’t apply to you.

MrsW12 · 11/04/2024 10:25

my case for backdating was put to a decision maker on 21st March (3 weeks today) and nothing. Just to be backdated til November when we started being eligible for DLA

Tiredmummy1235 · 11/04/2024 11:56

@MrsW12 mine was sent on the 8th march and nothing just getting ignored on journal entry’s. The wait for everything is a joke xx

Lulakate84 · 11/04/2024 13:35

How do I make a complaint for how long it's taking for a decision on back pay? Thanks

Lovely17 · 11/04/2024 13:41

@Lulakate84 i made a complaint to universal credit but it says someone will get back to me within 15 working days… I just googled contact universal credit complaint & it came up to fill out online x

MrsW12 · 11/04/2024 14:04

The funny thing is, they told me to request back pay to begin with! They granted me the extra bedroom allowance in a day! I don’t understand

Caitlinmckx · 11/04/2024 14:19

Did anyone else not get paid while waiting on it being sorted? I was due to get paid in general today and they haven’t paid me! X

MrsW12 · 11/04/2024 14:58

I’ve been paid. That’s not right. Definitely contact them

MrsW12 · 11/04/2024 15:00

When I was told I was getting a review, it took about 3 months from start to finish. It was so stressful

Caitlinmckx · 11/04/2024 16:18

I managed to get my normal pay that was meant to be today sorted they have just sent it through faster payment, but they’ve contacted me to say they owe me £146 back pay, he was in receipt of cdp from August last year and that only seems like a months back pay, that can’t be right can it? X

Relaxinghammock · 11/04/2024 16:29

£146.31 is only 1 month of the disabled child element at 23/24’s rate. If you just got your normal pay today do they they mean £146.31 on top of the other backpay.

Caitlinmckx · 11/04/2024 16:39

I contacted them back to ask they’ve just meant on top of this months pay yeah, still with a decision maker for the back pay! But atleast I got my pay sorted for today. Thanks for your help 😊

Samgib90 · 12/04/2024 14:49

Woohoo happy for you! I complained again today just in my journal and a woman got back to me saying there's no timescale on these things etc and was quite rude to be fair, she then said she would escalate this & within 45mins I got a letter saying they accept special circumstances... not sure about when I'll get that but I'll message them again on Monday to ask x

Hi, how long do the dms usually take to make a decision?
My request for backdated has only been with them a couple days, just wondering what a rough timescale would be? X

Samgib90 · 12/04/2024 20:59

I was told last month its within your asment period for the dms but that was today! Had nothing so sent a message within 30min had the dms letter! Seems like bullshit it's when they choose to do it!

MrsW12 · 13/04/2024 11:22

Well done on all the back payments. It’ll be 4 weeks on Thursday and also the last day of my assessment period. Would you recommend I put a message on my journal on Thursday?

I put a message saying that I haven't heard and it was the deadline and within 30min I had the letter saying its approved! So yes put a message on there.

MrsW12 · 13/04/2024 18:10

That’s great. Thank you so much.

MrsW12 · 15/04/2024 11:42

I got impatient and messaged today. I’m getting anxious. If it’s a no, that’s fine. I just need to know.
