Hi,

Does anyone know if universal credit back date the child disability element from when you first called dla for the claim form (which dla too will back date) or does uc child disability element start from the date dla make the award?

Thank you

@Kitten6 the severely disabled child element can be backdated to the AP in which the DLA award started. The severely disabled child element of UC is currently £487.58. However, you will have some of the backdated amount as the current rate and some at the 23/24 rate of £414.88.

How long are these backdated payments taking on average with everyone please just feels like another long wait Xx tia

Kirstyavfc · 18/10/2024 21:40

Hi, how long after making a complaint did you hear back? I've been waiting almost 8 weeks now for any type of response, regarding the disabled child element back pay. I've called twice, and each time they've wrote on my journal saying I would get a response from my case manager within 24 hours, but they never contacted me. It's ridiculous as you all know if we were to owe them money, they'd start taking payments straight away.

Motherlysweet · 11/11/2024 11:07

Hi,pls is this thread still on or is been moved?

Billie1997j · 11/11/2024 14:10

Motherlysweet · 18/11/2024 14:21

Billie1997j · 18/11/2024 18:10

If anyone is waiting I'd keep messaging on journal every 3 days and ringing asking for an update :)

Thank you. I will drop a message on journal tomorrow. Sometimes they just ignore the messages x

Billie1997j · 18/11/2024 19:50

If they ignore give them a call and say you would like case manager to contact you, as you would like an update mine literally took from July to August get the full payment just stay at them as much as it's stressful xx

Ok,I will do that tomorrow. It will be the 5th message I will be leaving on my journal. If still no response then I'll phone them. Thank you for helping xx

Hi. I know this post hasn't been updated for a couple of months but I wanted to post as I've been through the same as everyone else here it seems.

After googling something completely unrelated back in December I learnt about the disabled child element of UC. My eldest child has been getting DLA since 2020!

After a lot of back and forth between the child benefit team at UC who requested I added my kids details in the correct order of dates (I've got 3 kids with Sen who are all in receipt of DLA) they eventually accepted my request to have it all back paid and within 2 weeks of first contacting them a payment was sent.

However...they haven't paid the full amount of backpay so my work coach has sent a request to the 'technical team' to look into the remaining amount because they've agreed to backpay all the kids disabled elements but it looks like they've only paid from when my youngest was awarded in 2023.

They also told me to add a later date to what my eldest's DLA claim began so I've had to chase that up too. Funny enough I'm getting nowhere. I've made a complaint online and still not heard a word from them in 3 weeks now.

Am I right in thinking they should backpay the whole amount since they've agreed to it?

I'm going to try calling them tomorrow but I've found calling up even more unhelpful than the journal!

Relaxinghammock · 16/02/2025 23:07

@Miffyy The disabled child/severely disabled child element can be backdated. Most of the time when you notify UC late, they decide special circumstances apply and backdate to the start of the award. Less commonly, they don’t backdate all the way. If they refuse, you can request a mandatory reconsideration.

If you didn’t know the disabled child element existed, do you know about the carer element?

Miffyy · 18/02/2025 12:48

Yes I learnt about the carers element when they kindly let me know the carers allowance back payment I got was an overpayment 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've been getting the carers element for about 2 years. No idea how I missed the child disability element!

I'm getting impatient now. My work coach said herself that they've agreed to back pay the kids disability element due to special circumstances but they're taking forever to sort out the remaining money they still owe. I made a complaint too about their slow responses with the link in this thread but I've still not heard from them. I did that about 2 weeks ago.
