Hi All,

I have been reading previous threads related to this which all seem to be full so apologies if this is wrong (Im new). Applied for DLA for my 18month old son, scan date was 11/04 and had letter saying upto 15 weeks for a decision. Question is, i received a 2nd letter from DWP asking for my sons original birth certificate to be sent in and it would be sent back immediately. Has anybody else had this?

Thanks

Hi, sorry to jump on your post but i was wondering if anyone has had any updates from sending a new claim in march. Think mine was scanned 16/3 not too sure but around that date. My anxiety is going like mad, I'm even dreaming about it.

My scan date was 1st March, and I've received two letters; The first acknowledging receipt of my form and letting me know the scan date, and the second 'apologising for the claim taking so long. I've also received 2 texts (one last week and one the week before) saying 'they are still looking at my claim'

MENTALHEALTHMUMMY · 22/05/2023 21:15

It's a long process ain't it.. my anxiety is all over the place haha.. i even dream about. I have phoned up today and got told the waiting time is 15weeks even though i did get told 12 but i guess they work as hard as they can. Fingers crossed for ya x

It sure is 😩
I created a (somewhat long) To-do list for myself of a variety of things for myself/my children that I would like /need to get done (in general) over the period of 12-16 weeks that I expected to be waiting for the DLA to be processed. So I've just been trying to tackle those things so that I'm not heavily focused on the wait. Whilst I haven't been completed distracted from the wait, I've at least been able to feel a small sense of achievement in some of those things in the meantime.

Just to reassure you our scan date was 15th February, I got the text saying we’ve been approved on Thursday (18th May) and received backdated pay in my account today which is 14 weeks since they got the initial application. Still no letter 😂. So you’re not getting left behind, it just takes that long.

Hey that's great news, and somewhat reassuring to hear. I gave them a call yesterday as I'm at week 12 from scan date and was told I'd likely have another 3 weeks to wait. Which in hindsight might be a good thing as I have additional information that I need to send in detailing extra support my son has started receiving. When I called them yesterday I informed them of my additional information and they said they would put a note on the system so that if the claim reaches the DM, they would wait to receive the information rather than making a decision that could be a decline or an award that does not reflect the true amount of support my son needs. So I might now be a 'rare' person who wants the additional time🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any experience of making a claim in Northern Ireland? My scan date was 17/04 and I read somewhere that decision time was 30 working days which has now passed. Thank you x

Hi @darcee18 unfortunately no experience, but 30 days would be an awfully quick turn around in comparison to the 14-19 weeks that most peoples waits are averaging at. Please keep us posted of your outcome as I'm really intrigued to see the difference in wait time between Northern Ireland and everywhere else. On your letter received with the scan date on, there is a section in bold at the bottom that says 'What happens next' and there is tells you how long you may have to wait. Mine says 12 weeks, but I'm actually on week 14 now

Hi @Teddy2019 my scan date was 1st March, and when I called them last Thursday morning they said it was waiting to be looked at, and then I called again on Friday morning and I'd been awarded, apparently the decision had been made Thursday evening. So maybe you should calling them tomorrow morning

Teddy2019 · 12/06/2023 21:49

@Sweetsweetlike oh right I will give them a call tomorrow, have they still not sent you a letter yet or a text to say you have been awarded? It’s such a long wait isn’t it. A lot said the awarded and get the money in your bank before you even get a letter. It’s all so crazy x

Nope no text no letter nothing, but got a ping on my phone about 20 mins ago, and when I check it was a notification that moneys gone in my account which turned out to be the Backpay

Sweetsweetlike · 13/06/2023 00:35

@Teddy2019 but yes defo a long wait. I was expecting 15 weeks but it's actually turned out to be 14 weeks for me in the end, so hopefully you will hear something this week 🤞🏽🤞🏽

yummy992 · 13/06/2023 14:01

Hi just wondering If anyone's scan date is the 29th of March. I'm on week 11 for my son. Its crazy this wait. Thanks 😊

MENTALHEALTHMUMMY · 13/06/2023 18:51

Scan date 16th March and when i called up last friday to see if i still had time to send some more evidence i got told "you are very close for a decision so anymore evidence received will be classed as late evidence for my application" so looks like march are getting dealt with atm

yummy992 · 13/06/2023 19:33

Thank you for that. when I rang earlier they said another 4 weeks for my sons. I get that they are busy it's just annoying. I'm on edge constantly 😩. But thanks 😊

Sweetsweetlike · 14/06/2023 08:11

Hi @Teddy2019 any news? X

Teddy2019 · 14/06/2023 09:59

@Sweetsweetlike yes I phoned them up and they said I was awarded it, just not sure what rate yet until I get the letter, and do they back pay from the day they received or the day stamped on the forms when you rang for them xx

Congratulations 🎉
Yes they award from the date you phoned for the forms, and the backdate is received a few days after the award has been given (if my experience is anything to go by)

I sent late evidence, and kept checking to see if it had been scanned yet. Then last Friday I called again to see what was happening and they said I'd been awarded. I asked if they had received the late evidence and they said that the award had been decided before they got the evidence (which arrived a few hours after). When I asked what that meant, they said that they late evidence had now been sent to the DM who would look at it at some point and decide whether to change the award or leave the decision the same. So whilst I've had the back pay etc, it seems as though my sons entitlement could change. But who knows, as every advisor says a different story soooo🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

MENTALHEALTHMUMMY · 14/06/2023 22:02

Ah well that's good news then because i think the evidence i sent could be useful for the award my son is entitled too. I am going to phone up friday and check whats going on. You are definitely right the people on the phone are so different one person can tell you oh another few weeks and another tells you its with a dm. Haha. Fingers crossed for you♥️

MENTALHEALTHMUMMY · 15/06/2023 14:31

Ok, so i called up this afternoon and got told it still hasn't reached a dm yet and I'm on week 13 and it's taking 15 weeks too reach a dm atm. Feel like my heads going to explode ahhhhhh
