Had our renewal letter finally today 14 weeks since I posted . (27th july scanned) to give any renewals idea of the wait. So relieved. Its such a worry. This is our first renewal and awarded for 5 years (our original award was 2.) So won't have to go through this again for a while thankfully. Fingers crossed for anyone waiting . Thanks to you all this forum has been a great help easing anxiety whilst waiting on letter that seemed like it would never arrive. Xx

After getting awarded dla for my daughter I informed universal credit but said changes have to go to a decision maker to wether that can be backdated does anyone happen to know how long this takes?x

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 01/11/2022 17:49

@Tinker231 it can take a while. I think ours was about 6 weeks

Tinker231 · 01/11/2022 18:04

I’ve received a letter on my journal tonight saying the decision maker has accepted it so what happens now do I just leave it x

Angeldust12 · 01/11/2022 18:48

Have you done the changes on your online account? You put the date tge dla was awarded from as the day of change of circumstances then you ask them to back date it mine only took 2 days after it went to decision maker and they said money owed will be in my next payment

Tinker231 · 01/11/2022 19:07

@Angeldust12 yeah I done all that then tonight got letter on saying the decision maker has accepted it just didn’t mention anything about backdate but she was awarded dla 26/6 so a was just confused xx Thankyou very mich

Does any one no if I disagree with the award how long they take to look again is it the same time as putting in new claim , thank you for any advice

Angeldust12 · 03/11/2022 19:07

I asked for a mandatory reconsideration if that's what you mean only took them 4 weeks to respond and they upheld original decision

Theperfectmixof6 · 04/11/2022 00:13

Hi guys update, scan date 3rd august called yesterday for an update it’s with a decision maker. So fingers crossed not much longer I’m at 13 & half weeks

Jazzeybabes89 · 04/11/2022 06:54

I was told it's up to 4 weeks for a reconsideration - I'm sending mine today so 🤞🤞🤞 I've provided more medical evidence and have picked apart their decision reason by reason i.e they've said my daughter isn't receiving specialist input, despite a specialist writing a supporting letter 🤷‍♀️ I'd really recommend speaking to citizens advice to help anyone looking to challenge their decision xx

Vickyj29 · 05/11/2022 14:43

Hi everyone,
I applied for dla for my son a couple of weeks ago, he has undiagnosed autism because he is high functioning his school say they aren’t seeing it 😩

Ive been reading through all your messages and I’m really worried that I haven’t put enough information or explained how severe it is. Is it worth submitting more information or do I wait until I get a decision? I’m so annoyed with myself.

CatherineArthur · 07/11/2022 09:55

Hi all
I’m new to this, mine has been in since 16th august. My 4 your old has autism diagnosed recently. They’ve said it won’t be longer than a couple of weeks. Could I just ask how Dla effects universal credit? I am on UC but nothings clear, so money go up if Dla awarded? Finding it really financially tough atm thanks in advance x

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 07/11/2022 12:59

@CatherineArthur there is a child disability element that gets added to UC depending on the rate you get. If middle or high rate you can also apply for carers allowance (counts as income) and carers element (part of UC ) I've just been through it so message me with any questions

Angeldust12 · 07/11/2022 13:07

You can claim carers element for universal credit its £132 a month if your awarded middle rate care and £400 a month for high rate care

Tinker231 · 07/11/2022 13:13

Also as soon as you hear if been awarded inform them and the back date uc from the dla claim too it was in my bank within two days x

CatherineArthur · 07/11/2022 14:01

Thank you so much, is that carers or just a separate from carers? Carers have said they will pay if im awarded but then someone said it comes off UC so wasn’t sure if it would benefit xx

CatherineArthur · 07/11/2022 14:43

Thank you, x

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 07/11/2022 16:27

@CatherineArthur apply for carers element and carers allowance. They do deduct the carers allowance from your UC as if it was wages but it should be cancelled out by the carers element. Then the child disability is on top which is around 400 for high rate care and 132 for low or middle

CatherineArthur · 07/11/2022 17:03

Thank you that’s good to know, it will defo help me be able to look and provide the proper things that Arthur needs. Thank you so much xx

Angeldust12 · 07/11/2022 17:09

So carers allowance is classed as a taxable income as regards universal credit but carers element is a separate part like extra what you get if you contact universal credit when you receive your award notice and tell them and they will backdate the carers element

Kaiyalou · 07/11/2022 20:02

Hey guys, just wanted a bit of advice put my claim in July they said it has been put on the system on the 11th lf August. Still have not heard anything. Sent all relevant information of diagnosis and other health care plans. Phoned them today and have been told it hasn't even got to a DM yet. Do u know how long more it could take.? Tia.
