Who would like a Moondog Masterclass?

Moondog has been chatting on this thread and has said that she'd be willing to hold a session if enough people wanted to come.

To make it worth her while (in preparing for the session, travel, etc.) she'd need 15 to sign up. She's not advertising, by the way, I've asked her if she'd do one if there were enough of us. Smile

Sooo if there were around 15 people interested who could all get to within striking distance of Moondog/each other, it could be fantastic.

Any ideas for subject gladly welcomed - I know a few of you have been to Moondog stuff so we could avoid repetition.

I'd love to understand the basics on task break down/direct instruction, etc., but I'm probably quite a bit behind some of you ABAers, so I'm willing to go with the majority if it gets a session off the ground.

I'm interested in principle (childcare, other stuff going on, blah blah)

venue-wise, dd2's school hires out rooms very reasonably (eg 3hrs for £40), and I have room to put a couple of people up (more if you don't mind airbeds!). am striking distance of easy London route, so reasonably central, although costs may be prohibitive.

travel elsewhere would be tricky for me for quite a while as dh about ot have a reasonably serious op, so leaving the children with him will be difficult for th forseeable.

oh, (and to stop runnig before we walk Grin) subject wise I'm easy - happy with the majority, as always useful to revisit bits, ime and imo.

I really could do with some help in how to help DS with literacy. He is fine with maths. Well I say fine he's flying level wise but I have been told he tries working at level beyond his knowledge - mostly because he can do it but basics (eg quick recall of tables/ bonds etc) are slow!

I'd be interested. I'm not far from you Lougle.

Me! I'd love to. I'd love take hear about the basics, what Lougle mentioned, and applications for older children. Am also v behind all the aba ers but keen to learn!

Ooh I would! (Again, travel/childcare/timing etc permitting.) Some of the topics mentioned in the other thread would be really interesting to me, eg academic teaching methods, teaching hf kids, as well as the other stuff which would be great refresher.

Me please! Have been to the previous two. Happy to be there and just absorb whatever's covered. Am in total despair for my DD at the moment so anything postive that might drag me out of my pity party most welcome!

Lougle, just a thought - last time, Star suggested we use this website to collate votes on potential locations - made it a lot easier. We listed about 5 potential locations and then people said yes/no to which ones they could get to. We then went with the majority one.

Sounds great, me55monster. Let's give it a day or two to get a list of names and go from there.

I do think that NewBlueCoat's DH's operation should trump general organisational issues, if possible. Basically, we need to try and get a venue that allows everyone who wants to, to come.

It's probably a good time to say that the cost is likely to be around £100 per head - Moondog can clarify later, but just so people can get an idea of cost before they decide whether to go for it.

it isn't a life-or-death thing, but he will be out of action and need keeping an eye on (mostly so that he actually recuperates rather than just carrying on as usual Hmm) which does rather mean I can't leave him with the dc for a few months.

Seriously, I do think that we should work around that as much as possible.

I was just thinking if we ran it as a virtual online session one afternoon/evening then perhaps more people would able to attend?

Transport in some parts of the UK at the moment is shite & who knows when train lines etc will be fixed? Doing it online would also make it cheaper.

I can do it cheaper than this, Lougle, if:

  1. we get a venue that is not a commercial premises
  2. people bring their own lunch
  3. I do it on my own (I have bought a trusted colleague with me on other occasions). However, bringing someone else means you don't listen to me drone on all day and we can split up sometimes to reflect different interests/needs
  4. I can get there and back in a day (the previous two occasions had to take into account travel and accommodation for the two of us)

We don't have to go for all of those but they all have a ££ factor.

Bochead sounds like a real techie whizz eh?
Happy to go with that if someone else organises.
I am pressed for time with an f/t job and a family and a dh in far flung corners of the world.
Content is not an issue, but logistics are in terms of time for me.
As I told you. Me55 did a fab job of organising last time.

Right - reading through that thread you linked to I am more keen than ever. Now that I spend some regular time teaching children with SN I realize how much more could be done. The teachers work hard and try their best but the tools and methods just don't work with all the children. There must be some methods that do. I want to find out about them for children beyond my DS.

I'm happy to help organise if that helps anyone...
