Who would like a Moondog Masterclass?

Moondog has been chatting on this thread and has said that she'd be willing to hold a session if enough people wanted to come.

To make it worth her while (in preparing for the session, travel, etc.) she'd need 15 to sign up. She's not advertising, by the way, I've asked her if she'd do one if there were enough of us. Smile

Sooo if there were around 15 people interested who could all get to within striking distance of Moondog/each other, it could be fantastic.

Any ideas for subject gladly welcomed - I know a few of you have been to Moondog stuff so we could avoid repetition.

I'd love to understand the basics on task break down/direct instruction, etc., but I'm probably quite a bit behind some of you ABAers, so I'm willing to go with the majority if it gets a session off the ground.

Can you do it as a webinar instead? I would be very interested.

allisgood I'll leave it for Moondog to answer you. I'd imagine there would be a lot of admin/organisation involved with that...

finefatmama - do feel free to add yourself to the surveys for location and date:

All several people ask that and I would be happy to do sk but lack the capacity myself. This is something I am doing in my spare time. I'm a public sector f/ t worker so don't have the set up of someone who is running their own business. If a techs sort wants ti arrange one, in happy to discuss a reduced rate for that person.

Hi, After considered thought and winding myself up into a frenzy of stress I have decided to duck out.

There is just too much going on at the moment and I am already panicking at the thought of a) keeping data and b) someone else looking at it!!!!

As ABA is all about keeping data it seems daft to get stressed about it but I am!

Once I am in better frame of mind things might be different!

It's up to you sock but keeping data is often nothing more that asking a question and then rating 'green, amber or red' and watching the reds turn to green with practice.

The data-buddy system is only an idea to keep people motivated and show pride in their achievement. I imagine it is entirely optional. Keeping a completely red sheet that turned completely green after a month is nice but even better when you can show someone who knows what it means.

Data can also be just a tick or an 'O' (opportunity to learn).

Moondog trains TAs iirc and though I don't want to make assumptions about their level of education or ability any system HAS to be quick, straightforward and use very basic resources to ensure whoever the TA is, progress can be made and shown.

I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable about pulling out and I can see you have other demands on your time, but please don't be afraid or the idea of 'data'. I've been to 2 of these sessions and the skill is really all in how you ensure you are measuring what you intend to but that work has already been done by Moondog - you just do a bit of colouring in.

Absolutely second what Star says.
I'm not doing this to tout for business' but rather as a favour to MNers as I love mn and it has done a lot for me so I want to give something back.
Don't be afraid of data. I was for years and kick myself at missed opportunities. If you are interested in how often a child initiates conversation, the data would, quite simply be how often this happens. My greatest pleasure comes from seeing people who are scared of data becoming empowered by it and on my world that often means a TA of whom someone has never expected more than glorified babysitting, suddenly blossoming and becoming excited and empowered as s/he realizes the enormous power at their fingertips to change lives. I love this.

Speaking of which, I can't analyse data with question marks all over it! Pleeease update the surveys with your availability for Swindon/Seven Oaks - I don't mind a yes or a no, but I can't compute '?' Grin

Hi, I am v new to this topic and v new to ABA. Have just done INPP with DD2 and now I am interested in finding something to help DS(5). He has a few areas of slight concern that add up to a bigger picture that I am concerned about, (handwriting, speech delay, still wearing pull ups and a few other little things). Is there another thread where I can learn about ABA and see if it is right for him; or should I just take the plunge (especially if it's in Swindon as I'm only 25 mins away)?

If all on that list are certain they want it and Moondog is available it might be possible to do two sessions in different locations!?

moondog · 25/02/2014 19:46

Gosh, Star it's lovely that people are interested but I couldn't manage two of these days in a short period of time.

Is Aba only for asd traits? Would it help with developmental delays?

Report
moondog · 26/02/2014 07:33

2boys, I am actually more interested in its use with children with developmental delays. I think ultimately this does people with asd a favour as ABA can't then be pigeon holed as something only for people with autism.

I've added myself, is there a ballpark cost?

Report
lougle · 26/02/2014 16:22

zzzzz you made me laugh - lots Grin

I'm not sure of the ballpark cost yet, AtomicMitten - I think it may vary dependent on location (e.g. how much the venue cost, travel costs for Moondog, whether accommodation is needed overnight for Moondog), whether Moondog does it alone or brings her colleague (which would be better for her and us - more subjects covered in the same time), and how many of us commit (because the fixed costs can then be spread over more people).

I still need answers from:
Hazeyjane
KaKty3
Sam
Jussi
Lola
Never
zzzzz
Claw
Magso
Mumgoingcrazy
Dontswearthesmallstuff

about Swindon, before we can firm up a location. So far it's looking like London, Reading, Swindon or ?Kent depending on the answers given by the above 11 posters.

Advantage of London is that they've used the location before. Same with Swindon and Swindon would be free, which would reduce the cost.

Date wise, June is looking to be popular.
