Who would like a Moondog Masterclass?

lougle · 12/02/2014 21:31

Moondog has been chatting on this thread and has said that she'd be willing to hold a session if enough people wanted to come.

To make it worth her while (in preparing for the session, travel, etc.) she'd need 15 to sign up. She's not advertising, by the way, I've asked her if she'd do one if there were enough of us. Smile

Sooo if there were around 15 people interested who could all get to within striking distance of Moondog/each other, it could be fantastic.

Any ideas for subject gladly welcomed - I know a few of you have been to Moondog stuff so we could avoid repetition.

I'd love to understand the basics on task break down/direct instruction, etc., but I'm probably quite a bit behind some of you ABAers, so I'm willing to go with the majority if it gets a session off the ground.

moondog, no need to re-imburse, I am saving 's (and hours) by it happening 10 mins from my house, and its only a chilli... (I am glad to show my appreciation of the all the support and honks over the last few years...)

Ra Ra,,,, ah! have now twigged who you are Grin ... thought it might be you, and then didn't like to ask, in case it wasn't Blush

Tis okay sign. I don't change my name very often and usually revert back to original because everyone seems to twig immediately.

I never thought I had an especially unique posting style but apparently I do. Or perhaps they just see a post like 'Meetings are not Outcomes' and that's the end of that.

Rara, that's what us behaviour analysts would describe as competing contingencies but debatable as to whether all reinforcing. Grin

Sign, that's awfully kind of you. Thank you.
I think we are awaiting guidance from you on an appropriate generous donation for venue.

Lougle, do you think another thread might chivvy folk who were interested into action? This one is so old that people might think we are still at the early planning stage when in fact we now have date, venue, and content for the day up for discussion.
Like you know, I can't do it for fewer than 15 as it just isn't viable in terms of the large amount of preparation needed, to say nothing of complex domestic arrangements for myself and Lovely Colleague (I was with her today and am starting to think of her as 'Lovely Colleague'!) and travel and accommodation.

Oh yeah I fully intend to come. Didn't complete survey though!

I'm even more interested now chilli and choc cake has been mentioned Grin

Report
moondog · 04/04/2014 20:40

Need those surveys in so we can give MNers what they want.
There are many things we can focus on but they won't fit into one day, so we have to go with what people want most.

Report
youarewinning · 04/04/2014 20:41

Have competed the survey. I put interested for some things even though I have no idea what they actually are!!!
I did put uninterested in maths one - purely because my DS is some kind of scary maths wizz.
Please do cover maths if it's important to others. I can eat chocolate cake listen as a professional as I'm sure it will be of use to me in work.

If I'm completely honest moondog I'm interested in anything I'm told. I am so baffled by my DS as his presentation is so complex I'm 100% certain you'll open my eyes to things I hadn't even realised or considered.

I've been following the LFT with him and his answers are so random and varied it's becoming more something we work on than achieving a specific language level - because he achieves a language level which appears to vary on the topic being discussed! (Like I said - complex!)

We would like to run twin strands so that people are not tapping their feet thinking 'Yes I know about this stuff. Move on woman!'
A teeny weeny conference if you will. Grin
Speaking of which, do we have use of two rooms as this obviously essential?

Done my ticks. But like you're winning, will eat choc cake.

Going to put it all down as cpd hours regardless Grin

Sorry folks, my feet have barely touched the ground recently - so so SO excited that plans are coming together - well done to the lovely Lougle & Co... have completed the survey and will happily cook a second batch of chilli (meat).

I would complete the survey, but I don't know what most of it means Blush

I'm still here and checking - and I have done my ticks (drags up halo from its usual position around the ankles) Smile

Good idea, Moondog - I'll start one pronto.

I felt a bit silly calling her 'Lovely Colleague'...perhaps we should think of a name for her....

I have filled in the survey - I now have 2 friends who are definitely coming as well, I am happy to help with chilli/rice (just got a new rice cooker actually!) I am also saving lots as I'm about half an hour away(depending on the venue location).Whereabouts in Swindon is the venue btw?

Report
lougle · 06/04/2014 18:44

It's in Westlea, around 10 mins from j16 of the M4, AttomicMitten.

Great that your friends can come too! Are your responses to be taken on behalf of your friends, too, or will you provide responses for each of them?

Have done survey.

Am happy to help with rice etc but have never cooked chilli before.

Report
AtomicMitten · 06/04/2014 20:00

I will ask them, can they just put friend of Mitten on the MN name? Got to say it was a bit of guesswork on the subjects on my part. Do you know if Moondog has any web addresses, just so we could familiarise ourselves with the general idea (have googled ABA, but a bit of direction would be really appreciated). At the moment I have convinced my friends by the use of a MN jedi mind trick (i.e. MN is marvellous, ergo...).

Report
lougle · 06/04/2014 20:15

Yes, if they put 'Mitten's +1' and 'Mitten's +2' that would be marvellous, but as long as I know they're your mates and I can work out that it's two different people who have answered, that's fine.

I don't know about web addresses, but I know Moondog is keeping an eye on this thread, so she'll be along, no doubt.

Atomic, I have no web address, no as I am not a private consultant.
I'm a public sector one but do the odd workshop for MNers.
People who are interested are generally people who I have been conversing with online for some time in discussions about parents helping their children using data driven evidence based interventions that can be carried out by anyone.

Report
lougle · 06/04/2014 22:02

Moondog, I think atomic was possibly asking for links to websites which might explain what, for example, tagteach is so that she can work out whether it's interesting to her.

A quick bit of googling should let anyone learn the basics about these things.
For the areas I focus on and know most about, my chief source of inspiration and knowledge would be Behaviour Analysis for Effective Teaching.
Pricey unfortunately.

For the area in which Lovely Colleague excels (younger children with more severe ASD traits) I would recommend Motivation and Reinforcement

Both are easy to read (whilst still being extremely learned) and give countless practical examples of how to use behavioural science.

Also would like to give this website a mention as it says everything I say-only better

Thank you lougle and moondog, the links you've posted look great and are just the sort of thing I was thinking of. (Your googling is much better than mine!)
