Who would like a Moondog Masterclass?

Moondog has been chatting on this thread and has said that she'd be willing to hold a session if enough people wanted to come.

To make it worth her while (in preparing for the session, travel, etc.) she'd need 15 to sign up. She's not advertising, by the way, I've asked her if she'd do one if there were enough of us. Smile

Sooo if there were around 15 people interested who could all get to within striking distance of Moondog/each other, it could be fantastic.

Any ideas for subject gladly welcomed - I know a few of you have been to Moondog stuff so we could avoid repetition.

I'd love to understand the basics on task break down/direct instruction, etc., but I'm probably quite a bit behind some of you ABAers, so I'm willing to go with the majority if it gets a session off the ground.

Thanks for that Moondog - what does everyone think?

me55monster would you like to take over the organisation with perhaps HairyMaclary's help? I'm easy either way, as long as we get it done, but it sounds like you're already half-way there if you did it last time.

I would be interested in joining in if it's in a) London area; b) you don't find the idea of a Dad being present amongst Mums too hard to bear (I am a man :)).

StarlightMcKingsThree · 13/02/2014 14:58

Are you all planning to get their by canoe?

Levantine · 13/02/2014 15:04

I would be very interested, depending on location. Thank you

S'alright, you can all raft up and run it in some posh though flooded part of the country.

Call the workshop 'Resilience-building', put up a massive sign, and request Government funding.

I'll brokerage the service by putting up a doodle link to agree time and location, and take a substantial cut.

moondog · 13/02/2014 16:00

I've had a word with my fabulous colleague today (brilliant teacher, ABAer extraordinaire, doctoral student and MNer) and she has agreed to do this with me if we have enough people on board. (For those who came before, it isn't the same person as last time, but some of you know her, like Star and Bochead.)

This would make it more interesting and she specialises in small minimally verbal children with autism and motivational issues (also very hot on eating and sensory issues) whilst I am better at older children with educational issues and more advanced language skills.(Mind you, she is fantastic at that too.)

Kak, blokes most welcome! Smile
We have had a father come twice.

Kakty3 · 13/02/2014 16:13

Thanks for coming up with the idea, lougle :)

Thanks, moondog, definitely count me in then!

Handywoman · 13/02/2014 16:15

Very exciting Smile and yey to kak

sammythemummy · 13/02/2014 16:20

Where is it happening?

me55monster · 13/02/2014 16:34

Sorry Lougle I can't take on the organisation this time unless everyone's happy to have it in central London and re-use the same venue. If it's any more involved than that (I looked at 20+ venues last time Smile) then I just can't do it - sorry. I'm back working full-time and struggling with existing commitments.

Moondog your colleague sounds great for me since I have a small minimally verbal DD!

moondog · 13/02/2014 16:40

She is Me55.
You will love her!
Yes, as Me55 says, there is a lot of work involved in sorting out a venue to suit everyone and I just haven't time either.
But if you have someone who can a. find a place b. collect names and c. tell me what everyone wants and needs, I can take it from there.

lougle · 13/02/2014 17:02

me55monster don't worry at all! We'll sort something out, I'm sure.

sammythemummy, we're not sure yet. For moondog to commit to the time/travel, etc., she really needs to have enough of us to make it worthwhile, so we need 15 (at least) people who will commit to it in principle.

Then, we can start looking at dates, venues, etc.

I feel some venn diagrams coming on....

small, non verbal, sensory and eating --- ding ding ding ding! (no autism.. I think)

I would be interested (dependent on time place and childcare)

zen1 · 13/02/2014 18:42

I'd also be interested (also depending on location etc as I don't drive)

frizzcat · 13/02/2014 18:52

I'm also interested in this (was gutted to have missed London one), obviously time, location, price not withstanding.

I'm tearing my hair our with ds and literacy, reading/spelling are good - but have so much trouble with free writing stuff, things where there are no specific questions. His teacher is brilliant and he is supported, but he has to be spoon fed.

b) Details of where you can travel to (roughly)
c) What sort of thing you'd like covered

Lougle, as Me55 said earlier, this makes the job a lot easier.
Here

magso · 13/02/2014 19:35

I would be interested but location cost and date would be critical (childcare and work commitments). On line session might suit me well.

moondog · 13/02/2014 20:04

If it helps, we did it on a Saturday on the two earlier occasions, as that was obviously easiest for people (and for me and my colleague who also work f/t.)

bialystockandbloom · 13/02/2014 21:06

Weekends are best for me. During term time, so either before or after Easter hols. I'm in London so would prefer as near to that as possible but will travel!

Subject matter for me would be more about older children, and educational issues. I wonder, as your colleague is coming too, whether the day could be constructed to have two workshops, focussing on the two main areas of expertise?

frizzcat · 13/02/2014 21:21

Also in London and would like something close to here but will travel.

My ds is 9yrs, I'm looking for help with literacy, specifically extracting information from text, starting stories and although ds is good at maths he struggles with mathematical problem questions as he needs to extract the numbers and manipulate them to get the answer.
Anything relating to listening skills, especially listening to stories.
Also interested in what info the other lady has on sensory things, specifically noise. Ds is improving in this area, just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases.

Also Moondog would you be covering any SALT issues? I realise that this isn't the purpose for this session. But again tearing my hair out with a child who can speak, but just doesn't want to, he would rather say "I don't know" or try and guess what you want to hear so he can stop a conversation in its tracks and avoid it. The only time this improves is when running the Theraputic Listening Program.

frizzcat · 13/02/2014 21:22

Oh and weekends are best for me and can't do the weekend of the 8th/9th March

youarewinning · 13/02/2014 21:24

Can only do weekends or school holidays due to work. I have a car so travel isn't impossible - am South Coast though so travelling north of London will be difficult.
