Hello!

Please help me narrow down some names for my new honey subscription business. It's providing a tube of raw natural honey from different small apiaries and back yard beekeepers through the post monthly.

I would like something modern and not too twee. We're based in Scotland but I'm hoping it'll be a national company.

So far we have

Braw Honey (emphasis on the raw... but I'm not sure if Braw means something different in the rest of the UK? Or Hinnie, which is an old Scottish word for honey (maybe too obscure?) Rare honey, or Real honey. Ugly honey (as a pushback to the fake homogenized honey in supermarkets) Letterbox honey (too literal) Honey I'm home (twee)

I like words that mean 'different' like offbeat honey, but seems to be trying too hard to be cool....

Or words that highlight health or wellness? Live honey?

This is so hard!

I think Hive Mined is a really solid choice, assuming domain availability etc.

Intrigued about the metal tubes. How will it work in practice? Will customers need to store them upright? I'm thinking about how sticky honey is if they are laid on their sides and then the honey goes all over the screw cap and drips everywhere when you take the lid off. And how would I get the honey out? Will they be wide enough to dip a spoon in or would I need to pour it (in which case does it drip down the outside of the tube?) or use a honey dipper? I'm a sucker for cool packaging but it does need to be practical and I wonder if there is a reason why honey is invariably sold in glass jars, squeezy plastic or single use sachets.

@thesunisastar The tubes work really well, we've done a few testers. Raw honey tends to set quickly so becomes a thicker consistency which is nice to squeeze out onto toast or whatever. It is used just like a tomato puree tube, pierce the lid the use the cap to seal. Too small for a spoon. You don't have to store it upright, our test batches haven't gotten annoyingly sticky but we'll need to keep experimenting!

I like that you can recycle the tubes

Ah OK, I don't know why I was thinking of a kind of test tube shape with a screw cap lid. A squeezable tube makes much more sense and I can see how it would actually be more convenient and less messy than a traditional glass jar because you can apply the honey directly to your toast!

I like Hiya Honey! Because it comes through the letterbox, but you seem to like the more challenging names. If you choose a word with negative connotations like smug or ugly I would definitely do some market research in the street with your demographic to test it.

IVE GOT IT BY JOVE!

Well actually it was DP but I love it so I'm happy 😊

My Neighbors Honey

I like that it's beginning to describe the business model just by saying the name.

@LeafyGreenSalad We're going to put lots of wee phrases like this on the box, so hiya honey is great. Things like- honey I'm home, Hip Hip honey, Hive been expecting you...

Neighbours- bloody autocorrect

Omg OP I’m so sorry but that sounds like a porn film!!! You absolutely can’t surely 🤣🤣😳😳😳😳

NeckolasCage · 01/11/2024 14:23

I really am genuinely sorry to have to say that when I have been on this thread and seen what agonies you’ve had with this 😩😩😩

BeeKeeping · 01/11/2024 14:24

@NeckolasCage Oh ye of filthy mind! I'm sure the branding will make it clear that it's actual honey 😅

Prompted by something you said way up thread OP, I like Honey Bee Harvest.

I think like lots of others have said, you need to decide on who you're appealing too...quirky, cute, serious, natural.... and go from there.

LeafyGreenSalad · 01/11/2024 14:35

I was thinking it sounded like theft. I must have a deviant mind too Grin

BeeKeeping · 01/11/2024 15:25

@Chimchar My target audience is 20/30odds who want products that are good for their health, ethical, eco friendly and are willing to "put their honey where their mouth is"

I don't mind if it sounds a little bit saucy, as long as it's not forgettable!

Orrinocc0 · 01/11/2024 16:16

Don't forget the apostrophe!

I like that it sounds very smutty 😎

BeeKeeping · 01/11/2024 16:31

@Orrinocc0 Does it need an apostrophe if it's referring to multiple neighbours? My many neighbours honeys?

My Neighbours' Honey

ReadWithScepticism · 01/11/2024 17:03

My Neighbours' Honey sounds like you've nicked it and are flogging it sharpish out of the back of a van.

Perhaps Neighbourhood Honey would feel less thefty.

ReadWithScepticism · 01/11/2024 17:12

Or Honey Village. Twee though.

NeckolasCage · 01/11/2024 18:05

Ok another thought, what about using the word notes - as in perfume, and also a note being delivered?

People understand the use of the word note in perfume pretty well I think - the idea of unique scent elements. Very similar to your honey USP.

Honey Notes
Apiary Notes

??

BeeKeeping · 01/11/2024 18:28

What about Your Neighbours' Honey?

OP posts:
BeeKeeping · 01/11/2024 19:31

@NeckolasCage I do really like Honey Notes and it is very clever, I'm just hoping to stick to this latest incantation as it's been so hard to find something me and DP both like!

What about Your Neighbours' Honey?

No. That sounds like your neighbour's girlfriend fgs!

I'd go back to Braw honey and add the strap line "from our hives to your home".

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 02/11/2024 11:49

Or "From our hives to your lives" Grin

redtrain123 · 02/11/2024 12:01

Sorry, whenever I see hives, I think of the medical explanation.
