Hello!

Please help me narrow down some names for my new honey subscription business. It's providing a tube of raw natural honey from different small apiaries and back yard beekeepers through the post monthly.

I would like something modern and not too twee. We're based in Scotland but I'm hoping it'll be a national company.

So far we have

Braw Honey (emphasis on the raw... but I'm not sure if Braw means something different in the rest of the UK? Or Hinnie, which is an old Scottish word for honey (maybe too obscure?) Rare honey, or Real honey. Ugly honey (as a pushback to the fake homogenized honey in supermarkets) Letterbox honey (too literal) Honey I'm home (twee)

I like words that mean 'different' like offbeat honey, but seems to be trying too hard to be cool....

Or words that highlight health or wellness? Live honey?

This is so hard!

Backyard Bees?
It would then be suitable for expansion into more bee related products in time? (Candles/honeycomb/any beeswax products etc?)

Sorry, but almost all of the suggestions you've had are utterly terrible. With the exception of Hive Mined (which is clever but falls down on not explicitly mentioning honey) your original ideas are by far the best.

I like both Braw Honey and Ugly Honey. Assuming both have domains available, I would think carefully about what your brand story and values will be, and who your ideal customer is. Which name best reflects these values and will appeal to your target customers?

Do not, and I cannot emphasise this enough, fall into the trap to trying to create a brand that will appeal to everyone. You'll end up with something forgettable that won't offend but will never excite. If some people absolutely love it and other people hate it that is a great result. Aim to delight the former and let the latter go.

Other things to help the process - create a Pinterest board of existing food & beverage subscription brands that have a similar personality to the brand you want to create and that are targeting the same customer personas. What themes emerge?

pandora206 · 26/10/2024 22:56

I was going to say Yummy Honey but it's been done.

Are you saying, @thesunisastar that the branding of honey should be a bit ... marmite?Grin

(I agree, btw, it just tickled my funny bones)

I think Ugly Honey might be the best of the batch

Can I just say that I think this is a brilliant business idea. My grandpa kept bees and I point blank refuse to buy supermarket honey but finding local stock (there are suppliers - they just sell out super quick) can sometimes be tricky. My DC can tell Spring dandelion honey from late Summer honey etc and each have their favourite.
Can I just ask - when you say "tube" do you mean "tub"? If it is tube, can it easily be recycled in the Council bin? I would definitely sign up.
