Hello!

Please help me narrow down some names for my new honey subscription business. It's providing a tube of raw natural honey from different small apiaries and back yard beekeepers through the post monthly.

I would like something modern and not too twee. We're based in Scotland but I'm hoping it'll be a national company.

So far we have

Braw Honey (emphasis on the raw... but I'm not sure if Braw means something different in the rest of the UK? Or Hinnie, which is an old Scottish word for honey (maybe too obscure?) Rare honey, or Real honey. Ugly honey (as a pushback to the fake homogenized honey in supermarkets) Letterbox honey (too literal) Honey I'm home (twee)

I like words that mean 'different' like offbeat honey, but seems to be trying too hard to be cool....

Or words that highlight health or wellness? Live honey?

This is so hard!

I like Bee Harvest.
I don't understand Ugly Honey, when all the connotations of honey are beautiful.
Rare Honey?

Ugly honey is like ugly veg, antithesis of ultra processed homogeneous products.

It's supposed to be a juxtaposition - ugly honey, raw natural as the bees intended

Tube + Bees

Tubees

They might only hear it, though, and think that OP only has two bees - so no point in ordering, as all her meagre honey supplies will be more than gone after the first order!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 27/10/2024 19:24

'Beehive Yourself'?!

I must be in the minority, as I like 'Ugly Honey'. It's just honest about the raw natural provenance of the product and nothing at all to do with suggesting that the recipient is ugly!

If it works for Fat Face - imagine answering a ringing phone with "Hello, Fat Face!" - and Nasty Gal, it can't be too bad for business!

And I really like Missguided, but still don't like Ugly Honey.

Ah OK. Thanks. I didn't make the connection so I needed to be educated!

What about
Honey Hui

It means a collection

OP posts:
camellia15 · 28/10/2024 10:47

I like Honest Honey or Letterbox Honey

BeeKeeping · 28/10/2024 11:29

Honest honey is taken. Letterbox honey seems a bit twee. I like honey drop- but it's apparently a drink.

I'm so sick of this now- I want to give up!

Maybe I'm just 6 years old, but I wouldn't properly know how to pronounce 'hui' and would probably guess at something that sounds a bit like being sick (sorry).

ReadWithScepticism · 28/10/2024 11:54

It is a shame that drone delivery isn't yet mainstream (and that 'drone' is such a dreary word), other wise some drone puns might have worked.
In ten year's time you will probs be able to get your honey delivered by buzzing little drones with some kind of stripey bee vibe going on.

~~Not much use now thoughGrin

BeeKeeping · 28/10/2024 11:56

@TheHangingGardensOfBasildon

That's good to know- Will cross it off the list.

I give up! Let's not start a business after all. If I can't even pick a name I don't think I'm cut out to be an entrepreneur!

BeeKeeping · 28/10/2024 11:57

@ReadWithScepticism it's fine- I'll just wait till then!

OP posts:
TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 28/10/2024 11:59

Aw, don't be too disheartened, OP - the right name can't be far away!

True Honey
Superior Honey
Sunny Honey
Home of Honey
The Colour of Honey

Just, whatever you do, if you use a cart to promote the product at fairs, markets or whatever - DON'T refer to it as 'The Honey Wagon' Grin

BeeKeeping · 28/10/2024 12:03

That's the trouble! So many pitfalls, it's either sexy, twee, boring or taken.

I want it to be happy, modern and preferably have something to do with what it is.

I've been trying to find the perfect name for weeks and can't get on with the important bit- working with the apiaries without being able to say "hello! My company is called.... and here's why you should work with us"

OP posts:
TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 28/10/2024 12:06

I was trying to think of something to relate the basic raw honesty of the product.

Something equivalent to 'from the horse's mouth'.

But I don't think 'straight from the bee's arse' quite has the artisan ring to it that you're probably wanting!!

Mind, change 'arse' to 'bahookie' and, hmmmmm.........!!!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 28/10/2024 12:15

Hive to Home - natural, raw honey straight from the bees to you

ReadWithScepticism · 28/10/2024 12:17

What about Honey, Honey, Honey? As a pun on Abba's "Money, money, money" it invites an earworm that might keep the name in mind.

(I'm getting desperate now, though I am still withholding from suggesting another money pun -- The Honey Shot)

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 28/10/2024 12:22

It's frustrating, isn't it? LoveHoney would have been the perfect name - such a shame it's already been taken, not by another beekeeper company, but by a firm that sells fancy pants and bedroom accessories - it's like finding out that there's already a company called 'Delicious Desserts', but they actually sell replacement axles for wheelbarrows!

How about 'Heartfelt Honey', 'A Heart for Honey', 'Honey with a Heart', or something like that?

To be honest, I can't remember why Braw Honey was rejected - that sounded good to me.

Even if non-Scots (and non Oor Wullie fans!) don't know the term, they'd just assume it was a village/farm name or surname at first, before they see your company intro - it doesn't sound like anything negative at all.

BeeKeeping · 28/10/2024 14:41

Yes perhaps I should go back to Braw, maybe written as BRaw to emphasise the raw.

There are soooo many non bee related businesses that use bee themes in their names. Hive anything is always taken, lots of collaboration/collective type names too.

I did think of a funny tag line- "put your honey where your mouth is!"

🤣 I appreciate the help! Hive 2 home and variants of are all taken, also not quite the vibe I'm going for.

It's currently between
Hip hip honey
BRaw honey or Ugly honey

OP, there are a lot hurdles you'll need to overcome to be a successful entrepreneur! I think you are becoming overly fixated on the business name when the reality is there will be many much more significant challenges ahead. I work in product marketing and I see this all the time, people getting obsessed about logos and names but who haven't even considered their business plan.

Have you got a detailed business plan that you've properly and objectively challenged? Have you got a complete plan for the stages of harvesting (is that the right word?), packaging and distribution? How will you ensure that supply can meet demand as your business grows? Packaging sounds like it is going to be critical, have you identified the suppliers? What food safety requirements will you have to meet? Etc etc.

Orrinocc0 · 29/10/2024 09:22

I think if you have to explain Ugly honey it's a no. To me I think there's something wrong with it and I love honey so it's a bit confusing.

Hiving it all? Because it's multi hives?

Orrinocc0 · 29/10/2024 09:29

Bumble hives

BeeAll (again because of multi hives)

Don't give up OP!
