Hello!

Please help me narrow down some names for my new honey subscription business. It's providing a tube of raw natural honey from different small apiaries and back yard beekeepers through the post monthly.

I would like something modern and not too twee. We're based in Scotland but I'm hoping it'll be a national company.

So far we have

Braw Honey (emphasis on the raw... but I'm not sure if Braw means something different in the rest of the UK? Or Hinnie, which is an old Scottish word for honey (maybe too obscure?) Rare honey, or Real honey. Ugly honey (as a pushback to the fake homogenized honey in supermarkets) Letterbox honey (too literal) Honey I'm home (twee)

I like words that mean 'different' like offbeat honey, but seems to be trying too hard to be cool....

Or words that highlight health or wellness? Live honey?

This is so hard!

Braw means great in Scotland.

Thank you- I know, we're in Scotland. I was just worried it might not be well known enough elsewhere, or mean something rude!

I like the "braw" .... perhaps written as BRaw or bRaw??

(Although I've just googled "braw honey" ... and you get results for "braw bar", which is an oat bar!)

bryceQ · 26/10/2024 20:34

I would check what domain names are available and what else there is that sounds very similar as things like this will impact your growth potential if people can't find your website or social media

Yes that's good idea, I really like BRaw, could be read as bee raw? But I suppose that's fine too

Ahh yes, I've been checking companies house and instergram handles but didn't think about domain etc. Do you have to go on a sales website to check?

Just use go daddy or anything like that it will show you what is available.

I do marketing for small businesses and this is a really key thing when choosing a business name

Braw is not generally known in Ireland, except maybe some Ulster Scots dialect areas in NI.

Thank you- that's what I needed to know. I think that rules Braw out. I too like Honest Honey

That should of course say clever... not very clever to spell clever wrong!

I loved ugly honey and was pretty set on it for a few days. It was only thinking that it might be a hard sell to the beekeepers- that put me off. It needs a little tag line under it like - Ugly Honey in all its beauty
