Hello!

Please help me narrow down some names for my new honey subscription business. It's providing a tube of raw natural honey from different small apiaries and back yard beekeepers through the post monthly.

I would like something modern and not too twee. We're based in Scotland but I'm hoping it'll be a national company.

So far we have

Braw Honey (emphasis on the raw... but I'm not sure if Braw means something different in the rest of the UK? Or Hinnie, which is an old Scottish word for honey (maybe too obscure?) Rare honey, or Real honey. Ugly honey (as a pushback to the fake homogenized honey in supermarkets) Letterbox honey (too literal) Honey I'm home (twee)

I like words that mean 'different' like offbeat honey, but seems to be trying too hard to be cool....

Or words that highlight health or wellness? Live honey?

This is so hard!

@thesunisastar That's very true. I'm being overly dramatic, but it is annoying!

I do have a detailed business plan. I have sourced a supplier of aluminium tubes with a minimim order quantity of 5000, which is the lowest I can find. Sourcing enough honey will be a continuous challenge, and I'll need to overstock in the summer to supply the winter. I'll have to cap the subscribers at around 100 and grow the business very slowly. I need to have environmental health sign off too.

There's still a lot to think about and sort out. I'm getting help from business gateway.

What about

The Odd Honey Collective

OP posts:
NeckolasCage · 29/10/2024 10:33

But if you think about LoveHoney, it doesn’t directly reference anything really. I think that’s why it works. That’s what you need. Anything literal just sounds small town.

How about HNY? it doesn’t have to stand for anything but you could try. Maybe written h.n.y. with a cool logo.

:: h.n.y. ::
:: honey direct from the hive
:: fresh
:: delicious
:: different every time 🐝

BeeKeeping · 29/10/2024 10:54

@NeckolasCage that's what I want! A name that doesn't directly reference anything but links to the product

I like HNY - I'll run it past DP

OP posts:
BeeKeeping · 29/10/2024 19:31

DP has suggested Side Hustle Honey Club- because it's a side hustle for us, but also for all the small beekeepers that we're working with

StillAtTheRestaurant · 29/10/2024 19:35

HNY makes me think happy new year.
Side Hustle Honey Club is just daft, sorry. Yes, it's your side hustle but think how it may come across to your customers - that it's not your main focus or you're not fully committed.

ReadWithScepticism · 29/10/2024 19:38

Side Hustle Honey feels better to me - i.e. without Club, which is a bit twee.

Or you could have another 'Club' type word - The Honey Squad / Side Hustle Honey Squad

Supermand · 29/10/2024 20:35

Definitely not Side Hustle. Sounds unprofessional and a bit smug.

HNY is ok but not very interesting and possibly people won’t know how to say it.

Still think your original ideas are best.

BeeKeeping · 29/10/2024 21:10

What about smug honey? I do want subscribers to feel a bit smug

NeckolasCage · 29/10/2024 21:13

Definitely not honey and hustle together in any combination - too many sex-linked words!

NeckolasCage · 29/10/2024 21:16

Hyve ?

BeeKeeping · 29/10/2024 21:23

NeckolasCage · 29/10/2024 21:13

😂 ahh yes! Good point.

I like Hyve, let it sit with me

OP posts:
BeeKeeping · 29/10/2024 21:28

Quite a lot of business are called hyve- conference centers, business groups, all sorts of bollocks!

OP posts:
Glassbrick · 29/10/2024 21:44

Something simple, like The Honey Collective, gives your customer a vibe and everything they need to know, you could add in raw or ugly in there too so
The Raw Honey Collective or
The Ugly Honey Collective.

MadeForThis · 29/10/2024 22:19

Honey hit

Cismyfatarse · 29/10/2024 22:35

Queen honey / Honey Queen

Honey Honey

Bear / Bare Honey

BeeKeeping · 30/10/2024 13:38

I think we're going with
SMUG HONEY

Oh the relief! Now to get on with the job of actually starting the thing ☺️

OP posts:
ReadWithScepticism · 30/10/2024 15:00

I know your appetite for hearing the views of randomers on MN might be more satiated than Winnie the Pooh with an empty honey pot, but I would run a MILE from Smug Honey.

'Ugly 'and non-eco hive 'mining' are both waaaay less off-putting than smug. (And I say this as someone who has actually bought real honey like yours online)

Isn't smugness that absolute go-to insult for any consumer who takes the trouble to buy anything eco-friendly or ethical? Why rub that in??

BeeKeeping · 30/10/2024 17:13

@ReadWithScepticism Because it's a bit like Bad Brownies. Of course they're not bad, but it makes you stop and notice and remember them.

OP posts:
Orrinocc0 · 30/10/2024 21:13

Smug is a very unpleasant trait.

BeeKeeping · 31/10/2024 10:09

What about

Drip Happens Honey
Buzzed and Unbothered
Drip Tease Honey

Can you tell I've succumbed to the world of AI?!

OP posts:
bryceQ · 31/10/2024 10:14

You need to go back the basics.

Yes it has to encapsulate what you're about but I think it's more important it's easy to say, memorable, easy to spell, easy to find on Google, easy to find on social... Otherwise you won't have any customers

BeeKeeping · 31/10/2024 10:20

Hive and Seek?

OP posts:
bryceQ · 31/10/2024 10:27

There's already businesses named that

dottieanddora.ie/products/hive-and-seek-honey

BeeKeeping · 31/10/2024 12:14

I think I need to go back to Hive Mined, it's clever and descriptive and a little bit jarring
