A brand new thread for 2016.....:)

For old and new members alike....please join in and post food plans, meal ideas, how you use syns, weight losses and gains, how you feel.

I started exactly a year ago on 4 January 2015.
I weighed 14st 3lbs and was a size 16. Bloated and uncomfortable, I was mortified when I saw the scales.
In week 1, I lost 9lbs which has motivated me ever since.
I currently weigh 11st 3.5lbs and just missed my 3 stone certificate at Xmas. Put on 2lbs last week and not really expecting a loss this week but I want to get to 11 stone and then re set my target to 10 stone 7lbs.

I have gone down to a comfortable size 12 and even wore a size 10 Fat Face dress yesterday.

So, let's do this.

I feel quite excited. SW has definitely changed my life......:)

Ooh that could work, nice and crunchy!

emwithme · 13/01/2016 00:24

If you're hungry - eat.

If you're eating - eat proper (preferably syn free) food.

wowser3 · 13/01/2016 01:14

Hi all , what is this cauliflower sauce you keep mentioning. How do I make hat please? X

calzone · 13/01/2016 07:36

CAULIFLOWER SAUCE
Boil a cauliflower in veg stick til very soft. Drain it but save the water. Place in jug and blitz using a handblender, adding the stock as you go. You end up with a jug of blitzed cauliflower which can have cheese added to for a white sauce.
This can be used for lasagne, macaroni cheese, fish pie etc.

I made it last night and no one noticed it had cauliflower in it. It's fab!

Weigh in. Maintained down to the ounce. So gutted! Going to look how to do speed days I reckon.

namechangedtoday15 · 13/01/2016 08:32

Can I just check - might be a really stupid question, but I have a Waitrose latte on my way to work 4 days of the week. I measured the fluid level and it is 200ml and I know its made (you can see the bottles) with semi skimmed milk.

Am I ok to class this as my Healthy Extra A ?

I can see in the book that it says you can use your milk in hot drinks, but every reference to lattes in the synsonline and elsewhere in the book gives it a syn value.

Really sorry if thats a dumb question Blush

wowser3 · 13/01/2016 08:37

Thanks calzone

BasinHaircut · 13/01/2016 08:45

Can't see why not namechnaged. As long as you aren't having milk/cheese anywhere else.

Dying for a latte now Envy.

FannyFanakapan · 13/01/2016 09:26

Cauliflower sauce is actually nicer (IMO) when you add a sliced clove of garlic too...

emwithme · 13/01/2016 10:06

You definitely can class your Waitrose latte.

When I did SW last time (and was working FT and full on ) I was really missing my starbucks coffee and worked out with the manager of the store near work that if I had a venti with 5 shots of coffee and sugar free syrup, it would take up my whole HEA allowance and no more!

I would buy it on my way into the office and drink it through the morning.

WineAndIntrigue · 13/01/2016 10:26

Morning everyone. I cheated again and had another look at the scales. Currently showing at 12st1lb which means a loss of 6lbs in 9 days which I'm very happy with Smile

Food diary for yesterday:

B - Fridge raiders (3.5 syns) and tropical fruit pot from Tesco
L - Jacket potato, HexA cheese, salad (1 syn for raisins in said salad)
D - Koshari (Egyptian street food) from an incredible little restaurant in London. Not sure on syns - it's made of rice, pasta, lentils and tomato sauce, but topped with caramelised onions (oops). Counted the rest of my syns for it, and going to try and have a syn-free/low-syn day today to be on the safe side.
Snacks - cup of tea, 0.5 syn milk

Food diary for today:

B - Totally forgot to bring any
L - Jacket potato, beans, salad
D - Pasta bolognese w/ HexA cheese
Snacks - Muller Light, apple and a banana after lunch

Hope everyone is having a good week!

FoofFighter · 13/01/2016 10:31

Yes even SW themselves say it on their coffee shops article on LLOL, I take a grande skinny cappucino with whatever sugar free syrup

FoofFighter · 13/01/2016 10:33

Cauli sauce - had it last night and loved it! there was a very small cauli taste that could easily be masked with herbs, cheese, garlic, onions (oooh am thinking about making onion sauce for sunday roast now!!)

For me it was the texture that was ace, nothing else has come close to achieving that velvety smooth texture, NOM

Todays plans:
B baked oats hexb, apple, choc shot 0.5
L tuna broccoli onion rice quiche, with "fried" mushrooms and onions
T skinni sliced sausage, sw chips, mushy peas (no speed I know)

Insideout2015 · 13/01/2016 10:43

Hi,
I am new. I joined yesterday but only online as I travel for work a lot so I could never make the meetings.
Have never been skinny but never been too too big, not more than size 16 for trousers but I have decided I have to diet now as I am tall 163cm and weight 84kg (13 stones) and I don't want to die early with diabetis or heart disease.
Wish me good luck, I will be full
Of questions

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/01/2016 10:45

I'm still really annoyed I maintained. Second week in a row. I lost 8lbs during my first 4 weeks!! Angry got my first date night since DS was born tonight and am going to be all worried about what food to pick. I'm 14lb 8.5 and 5'6, size 16, so it's not like I'm maintaining because I'm slim already! I thought the bigger you were the quicker it's meant to come off.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/01/2016 10:46

14 stone, obvs.

knowler · 13/01/2016 11:42

Bendy sometimes it feels like there's no rhyme nor reason to it, but 8lbs off is still pretty impressive. Also, although I know it's always a personal thing as to how "big" you feel, but at 5'6 and 14'8.5, you don't actually sound that big to me so I wouldn't necessarily have expected you to be dropping lots of lbs every week... Like I say though, it's all personal so not trying to make out you're annoyed for no reason.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/01/2016 11:46

Knowler thanks for the pep talk. I am obese according to BMI but actually don't pay much attention to that as I'm quite muscular. But the NHS do so i suppose there must be something in it. I am only 4lbs down total now because of blooming Christmas! Going to spend time planning speed days and not give up :) can't exercise at the mo either because I'm having post-natal physio still so that's a bummer. DS is 7 months old fgs! Gah.

Pisghetti · 13/01/2016 11:59

I'm going to try the cauli sauce over the weekend. At what stage do you add the garlic Fanny?

B - overnight oats - yogurt, oats and frozen rhubarb. Tart! HeB
S - 2 x hifi bars HeB
L - Bombay potatoes
S - apple, banana
D - Nacho feast with quorn mince and butternut squash wedges instead of potato (HeA mozzarella)

I should be favouring HeAs over HeBs for my extras. Going to have egg muffins for breakfast for the next two days so that will help.

knowler · 13/01/2016 12:08

Bendy i didn't know you'd got a 7 mo - even more impressive for starting this now. My youngest is 19 mo and it's hard enough finding the energy to dedicate to yourself.

DesertIslandPenguin · 13/01/2016 13:12

Congrats on all the losses! I weighed yesterday and lost 2.5lbs. Was quite chuffed until lots of other first week people lost 6 or 7lb! Must not compare...

Currently making a mega SW quiche. Roasted BNS cubes, roasted beetroot (pack of pre-cooked in natural juices, cubed and chucked on same tray to dry out a bit), caramelised 2 red onions (frylight, bit of balsamic), quark, 5 large eggs, 4xHex A of feta. TBH I might have gone overboard on the feta, it crumbled down to loads!! I do like using a whole HexA as I often forget to eat it and if it's in a nice handy lunchtime wedge of quiche then that solves that problem.

Of course I am having SW style nachos for dinner tonight. Whoops!

Thanks for the cauli sauce idea, Calzone. I used to live off cauliflower when I low-carbed. I actually miss it Grin

BasinHaircut · 13/01/2016 13:17

bendy my DS is 2.5 and I have only just started too.

If you aren't gaining then you are winning!

On a separate note, does anyone use tinned cod roe at all? I love roe from the chippy but I've never cooked it myself. I'm thinking of having it with SW chips but wondering how best to cook the roe?

EmilyK83 · 13/01/2016 14:05

Well done on all losses!

Today's plan...

B - 2 satsumas

L - a bit of an experiment - fajita-style chicken wraps! Mixed cooked chicken with fat free natural yoghurt, salt, tomato purée and chilli powder, and added chopped celery and yellow pepper. Then spooned it all into lettuce leaves and topped with my HexA cheese. See pic!

D - homemade kofte kebabs with rice, a Kingsmill Thin (HexB) and a salad...

No idea about Syns yet, probably chocolate...

that looks delicious, I think half the meals I do could be so improved by proper presentation!

cowboylover · 13/01/2016 15:53

Bendy try not to worry about the BMI too much as even now the NHS are starting to take less and notice of it.
My husband is 6'4" and he's on the obese to morbidly obese line at around 8% body fat which is actually considered 'under fat' so each person really does need to be accessed individually.

B; Cooked with 6 Syns of Browns and delicious
L; Lasagne

And now going to my MIL birthday tea party so I am glad I am still full of lasagne and will try my best to resist the treats and ignore the snipes about my weight and diet plan.
Doing dry January so can't even come home and numb it with vodka!
