A brand new thread for 2016.....:)

For old and new members alike....please join in and post food plans, meal ideas, how you use syns, weight losses and gains, how you feel.

I started exactly a year ago on 4 January 2015.
I weighed 14st 3lbs and was a size 16. Bloated and uncomfortable, I was mortified when I saw the scales.
In week 1, I lost 9lbs which has motivated me ever since.
I currently weigh 11st 3.5lbs and just missed my 3 stone certificate at Xmas. Put on 2lbs last week and not really expecting a loss this week but I want to get to 11 stone and then re set my target to 10 stone 7lbs.

I have gone down to a comfortable size 12 and even wore a size 10 Fat Face dress yesterday.

So, let's do this.

I feel quite excited. SW has definitely changed my life......:)

Calzone (which incidentally is my very favourite pizza), what recipe do you use for your white sauce for lasagne?

ChessieFL · 11/01/2016 12:39

Someone asked about good chain restaurants on SW - as pp said Nando's is good. Most chain pubs will have a steak or chicken breast on the menu, have that with a jacket spud instead of chips and then have veg or salad and ask for it without butter/dressing.

EmilyK83 · 11/01/2016 12:39

Been shopping now, today's meals are as follows...

B - 2 satsumas (not really hungry...)

L - sandwich (HexB) with ham and salad. Plus more fruit.

D - leftover pastitsio from last night, with a big salad.

Syns - I bought some Mini Milks today...they're only 1.5 Syns each AND on offer in Asda! Serious ice cream cravings... Trying to have a good syn day as it's my first weigh in tomorrow!

wowser3 · 11/01/2016 13:03

Day 3 on slimming world today, feeling really sick! Could it be my body adjusting to all the fruit and veg? Not used to eating so much healthy stuff.

OrianaBanana · 11/01/2016 13:30

I felt very bloated etc for my first week, so it might be!

Pisghetti · 11/01/2016 13:50

I find eating out quite difficult. I'm vegetarian and the veggie option is invariably loaded with cheese. I get some additional healthy extras as I'm breastfeeding so I save those if I know I'm eating out and try to just eat free foods for my other meals that day.

Today is:
B - Overnight oats HeB made with quark instead of yogurt
S - Fat free yogurt, 3 x babybel light HeA,
L - homemade tomato and lentil soup, apple, banana, 2 x hifi bars HeB
D - leftover bolognese with savoury cauliflower rice

Too much snackage today! Didn't have the best weekend so leaving my Syns to pay back the surplus.... Good tip on the mini milks! I do a bit of cross stitch in the evening if I'm feeling snacky. Seems to distract me enough.

Heyheyheygoodbye · 11/01/2016 13:50

Nandos is brilliant for low-syn food but Waggamamas is terrible Sad and I love cha han donburi so much - but I think I could probably make a SW version at home if I put my mind to it? It's just rice, chicken, prawns, mushrooms, sugar snap peas, spring onions and then the flavourings, right?

Heyheyheygoodbye · 11/01/2016 13:52

Oh actually there's a recipe here - could definitely SW-ify it www.wagamama.co.nz/at-home/recipes/cha-han

knowler · 11/01/2016 14:09

feel like a numpty about Wagamamas now - should have checked before :(
But can't quite work why it's so bad - what do they put in it?! As heyhey says, a lot of the recipes are just rice, chicken/prawns, veg and i'd then add a few syns (not 30!!) for oil.

Nandos seems like a good choice for having a decent amount and not feeling deprived but for not too many syns.

KathyBeale · 11/01/2016 14:27

Just marking my place. I joined SW in October. Have about 3st to lose. I had lost 8lb but then life got in the way, I hadn't been for all of December, and I gained 6lb.

SO back on it. Also back to running and swimming. I was doing FitSteps but the class has been cancelled, which is a shame. I'd LOVE to do tap - whoever said they'd taken that up. Will have to investigate if there's an adult class near me.

emmaluvseeyore · 11/01/2016 15:13

kathy, that's me doing tap. I used to dance as a child, but I haven't done it since I was about 11. Once of my friends goes so I decided to give it a try in September. I love it!!! My teacher runs FitSteps too :) Tap is back on tonight - can't wait :D

cowboylover · 11/01/2016 15:32

Thanks Calzone, that's exactly what I did!

Welcome to all the new members, peeing a lot is a good sign!

B; Overnight Oats with Raspberries, Apple and coffee
L; Leek and potato soup then Muller and fruit

When I get home I'm doing the pizza topped chicken breasts with SW Chips and corn on the cobs with fruit for dessert again.

Feeling more confident and in control this week, I set myself a target to loose 7lb this month which I know is a big challenge but will see how it goes Smile

Heyheyheygoodbye · 11/01/2016 16:21

I used to love making mackerel pâté before SW and just made a SW-friendly one:

Pack of mackerel fillets (I used smoked. The smoked ones aren't free but it's only a syn or two for the whole pack so whatever) blitzed with a tub of quark, the juice of a lemon and cayenne pepper to taste.

I liked it just as much as the full-fat version I used to make before! Good with speedy crudités or on hexb toast :)

overitalready · 11/01/2016 16:46

B - 2 boiled eggs stuffed in a wholemeal thin. Pear and banana

L - 2 light babybels and an apple

D - Roasted peppers, courgettes, leaks, red onion, baby sweetcorn, tomatoes with chicken legs smothered in garlic salt, smoked paprika and cayenne pepper.

S - Cadbury snack

WineAndIntrigue · 11/01/2016 16:51

Happy (!) Monday everyone.

Today's food diary:

B - none
L - Jacket potato, HexA cheddar, couscous and radish salad (1syn for raisins) & tuna mayonnaise (whacking great amount of 7.5 syns)
D - Going to a friend's for dinner so planning to pick up a ready meal (3.5 syns) from Sainsbury's on the way
Snacks - Fruit, green tea

Baked a cake last night and brought it into work today but have managed to resist so far!

wonkylampshade · 11/01/2016 16:55

4.5lbs off for me today, can't believe it.

namechangedtoday15 · 11/01/2016 17:04

SO I joined on Saturday. I have never done Slimming World before, but have tried WW (which worked for me but got bored).

I have about 1.5 stones - 2 stones to lose. I can't quite get my head around being able to eat potatoes / rice / pasta etc. I can't imagine that I will lose on it.

I am also a bit stuck on the "you can have between 5 and 15 syns a week". I need rules! Can I have 15? Will I still lose weight?!

All the books talk about food optimising - it just seems to be cutting out fat and sugar maybe over simplifying it and may not even be able to stick to that! The initial talk was about 1.5hrs before we were allowed to get weighed. Lost the will to live.

Can anyone simplify it for me.

I can have 250ml of semi skimmed milk a day (enough for my latte on the way to work?) and a healthy extra - which would be a light cereal bar.

Then for lunch & dinner I effectively have to stick to "free" meat veg and fruit or count it as a syn. I was a little bit gobsmacked that a bagel was 11.5 syns. Guess I won't be having many of them then!!

I can carry the syns over if I don't use them in the day, but only for a week. Is that right? And I don't get any extras for doing exercise (like you can earn extra points with WW?)

emmaluvseeyore · 11/01/2016 17:23

The only thing that doesn't right is carrying over syns. Pretty sure you can't do that. You don't get extra syns for exercise, no.

The 5-15 syns allows you some flexibility. Some days you will only want 5, others you will want 15. It depends on how you are feeling. I would make sure you have at least 5 though as you are depriving yourself too much if you don't (and are therefore less likely to stick with it).

OrianaBanana · 11/01/2016 17:47

namechanged you have it right (apart from a weekly syn allowance as emma says).

It's also about the psychological aspect of always being able to eat if you are hungry which I love (I think it helps prevent binges) and it's about the satiating power of foods - so eg white bread won't keep you going as long as wholemeal.

OrianaBanana · 11/01/2016 17:48

Don't forget the third speed foods at meals if you can - it naturally limits how much eg pasta you eat, although you can eat pasta freely if you want, but you won't lose as quickly.

JOEYDOESNTSHAREFOOD · 11/01/2016 17:53

Good Evening!

2lbs down this week, happy with that.

B- nothing (busy, very naughty)
L- porridge (should have been for breakfast)
D- Boodle Carbonara. (Butternut squash noodles mixed with a dolmio stir in carbonara sauce and extra mushrooms and bacon. The sauce is 10syns but it's split between tonight's tea and tomorrow's lunch.)

HeA - Milk in my brews

Not enough water and too much coffee. Took my flavoured green teas to work but had coffee instead. Ah well.

namechangedtoday15 · 11/01/2016 18:12

The leader referred to having 105 syns per week (presumably 15 x 7) and said she normally saves hers for a "big night on a Friday and probably rough day on Saturday" Confused Was secretly quite pleased to hear the reality of how she uses the syns, it did seem a little bit odd from the leader if you're not allowed to do that?!

emwithme · 11/01/2016 18:15

Theoretically, you're not supposed to pool your syns.

Untheoretically, pretty much everyone does it. I tend to aim for 5 - 10 every day except Sunday, where I'm happy if it stays under 30.

annatha · 11/01/2016 18:42

I cannot stop eating today. Skipped breakfast as I was running late so today I've had:

L: Leek and potato soup. DH had some mouthwatering buttery toast with his but I resisted

Mid afternoon snack: 2 x tesco healthy living strawberry cereal bars for hex b. Bit rank. Tea with milk hex a.

D:Chicken and tomato soup, 3 fish fingers 4.5 syns (dd was having them for tea and I fancied some too, not with the soup!) muller light 1/2 syn

And about half an hour after dinner I was hungry again so had sliced chicken, 4 x light cheese triangles hex a and an apple.

Still have 10.5 syns and 2 x hex a left surprisingly so some wiggle room if I get hungry again, although there is some leftover free leek and potato soup in the fridge so might turn to that first. So far I'm finding myself eating nothing but free and superfree for meals and using syns and hexs for snacks.

BasinHaircut · 11/01/2016 19:22

Breakfast was porridge with 1 tsp sugar

Lunch leftover lamb casserole with rice

Snacks banana and pear

Dinner is chicken, mushroom and leek pasta with broccoli.

First night back at the gym for about a month too, so dinner when I get home.

Got some new gym kit for Xmas and just put it on and it's too snug! There is an incentive to lose this weight right there!
