A brand new thread for 2016.....:)

For old and new members alike....please join in and post food plans, meal ideas, how you use syns, weight losses and gains, how you feel.

I started exactly a year ago on 4 January 2015.
I weighed 14st 3lbs and was a size 16. Bloated and uncomfortable, I was mortified when I saw the scales.
In week 1, I lost 9lbs which has motivated me ever since.
I currently weigh 11st 3.5lbs and just missed my 3 stone certificate at Xmas. Put on 2lbs last week and not really expecting a loss this week but I want to get to 11 stone and then re set my target to 10 stone 7lbs.

I have gone down to a comfortable size 12 and even wore a size 10 Fat Face dress yesterday.

So, let's do this.

I feel quite excited. SW has definitely changed my life......:)

No idea about today, it's weigh day and DH is cooking dinner...

Whydidderekhavetodie · 09/01/2016 09:58

Hi, re joining on Tuesday. Got to target November 2014, found out I was pregnant January 2015!
Had a 10lb chunk of a baby in September and am currently hanging onto 3 stone of "baby weight".
Realistically hoping for a lb or 2 a week til I get back to work.
More would be nice though!
Ooh forgot to say I'm new too.
Good luck everyone

DamedifYouDo · 09/01/2016 10:05

First weigh in for me this morning and I've lost 2 kg !!! I'm really pleased as I have found the eating plan gives me a lot of flexibility and I haven't felt deprived of anything, I'm really motivated to keep going.

Solina · 09/01/2016 10:14

Well done damed! :)

Im going food shopping today, its my favourite day of the week! Get to plan the week! I need more carrots this week though. I bought at least 12 large ones last week and ran out on wednesday!! They make a nice snack.
Anyone got any favourite recipes that I should try this week?

knowler · 09/01/2016 11:34

Em, that made me laugh, but also makes me realise just how much I've been eating before this... 3 chips wouldn't even have registered as food.

After some treats yesterday (g&t, lovely bit of cheese and a couple of lindor) back on and off to fruit and veg shop shortly.

Also starting to notice clothes becoming slightly looser. Hopefully on Tuesday I'll get my first sooner award so chuffed I can already tell the difference (5 stone still to go!)

formerlymumstaxi · 09/01/2016 11:42

Great first few days - and DS1 (18) loved the fact I offered him a lift back from football training last night - as off the wine too :-) Usually happy to cycle but blowing a gale and raining.

Got to focus in the positives - anyone else feeling proud today?

OrianaBanana · 09/01/2016 11:49

I am proud that I resisted biscuits, buttered toast, alcohol and (strangely) muller bliss corner cravings last night to finish on 15.5 syns. Still ate loads and feel bloated!

Today I shall have All of Those Things as promised! Grin (carefully and within syns)Hmm

oneowlgirl · 09/01/2016 12:14

Stayed on plan so far this week & even managed not drinking last night, so rather than feeling like rubbish this morning, I instead went for a run!!

Out tonight at a house party though so hopefully my resolve won't go completely (I've allowed the wine in my syns, but hopefully will manage not to eat too much of the wrong type of stuff!!).

Well done to all so far - seems like we're all making good progress.

funnyperson · 09/01/2016 12:16

What is the thinking on hummus?

tabulahrasa · 09/01/2016 12:34

Um, it's a chickpea based dippy thing? Lol

Depends what you mean funnyperson?

Ready made stuff has syns, but you can make it for free.

Chelsea26 · 09/01/2016 12:34

Funny person - there is a free hummus recipe on the site but I prefer to make it with tahini as it tastes better - it works out at 1 syn per portion.

Take a can of chickpeas and drain but keep the liquid. Put the chickpeas in food processor with 2 cloves garlic, 2tbsp lemon juice, 2tbsp tahini, salt and pepper and some of the chickpea liquid. Blitz and then taste And add more lemon juice/chickpea water depending on taste/texture and blitz again. I had it with carrot sticks at work every day this week and it easily made 5 portions.

hollyisalovelyname · 09/01/2016 13:07

I joined last week.
Interesting the weighing scale at Slimming World weighed me 6 lbs heavier than my digital scales at home. Sad
My dh says our weighing scale weighs the same as the one at his gym.
Has this happened to anyone else

mangofizz · 09/01/2016 13:22

That's pretty normal holly, there'll be loads of variation between different sets of scales. You are looking at lbs lost anyway so essentially the difference doesn't really matter, although it's frustrating!

Don't forget too that at home it's easy to weigh naked and first thing in the morning when you weigh the least and the club is fully clothed at X time of day when you have whatever you have eaten and drunk during the day to take into account too. Don't be disheartened!!

mangofizz · 09/01/2016 13:26

I've weighed in the morning and I'm 3lbs down since Thursday, probably mainly water but I'll take it!

Food today:

B: 3 bacon medallions with scrambled egg and mushroom on one slice of wholemeal toast (half hexb)

L: 100g of avocado (9 syns) on one slice wholemeal toast
Strawberries

D: planning on 2 slimming world burgers with cheese (hexa) and sweet potato fries. Maybe with something else, have seen a recipe to make sweet potato noodle buns so might do that and have something else on the side

ChessieFL · 09/01/2016 14:30

Weighed in today and maintained but I'm happy with that. I was ill during the run up to Christmas and ended up losing 5lb as I ate virtually nothing for over a week, so I think my body is just getting used to me eating normally again. Plus I haven't been perfect this week as I'm gradually eating through the Christmas chocolate so syns have been a little bit higher than they would usually be.

I am 6lbs from target and I finished my countdown today. My aim is to buy a 6 week countdown next week and get to target in that time so I don't have to pay any more! I'm not sure if that's possible though (I know for may people losing 6lbs in 6 weeks would be very easy but it is harder the closer you get to target so we'll see. I've done more exercise this week than before so I'm aiming to keep that up too and get my silver body magic in 3 weeks' time.

FannyFanakapan · 09/01/2016 16:07

I had a dreadful day yesterday - I was really upset not to lose after a very good week on plan. Gained a lb, to add insult to injury. It all went horribly wrong with sweet binge followed by a take out and wine.

Today I'm back on track.

Can I ask about sp days - Ive never done one, and understand you have 2 hex b and 1 hex a and only SP foods...

So i had a mulller - do I then have to syn it? If so, how many syns?

tabulahrasa · 09/01/2016 16:19

If you're having an SP day and you have something that is free but not an S or a P...you basically accept that you're not having an SP day after all and don't have the second B choice.

Anything that always has syns just works as normal though.

calzone · 09/01/2016 16:25

You do have to syn them Fanny but not sure how......

A new group is starting at 3.45pm on Wednesdays so am thinking of going to weigh there and then going to help at the 7.30pm group......((pondering)) it means I can eat before I go to the later group rather than eating my own elbow at 9pm......

B.....Apple, banana, coffee
L....vegetable soup, tangerine
D....beef Stifado with orzo and broccoli

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 09/01/2016 16:37

You don't syn them calzone - there's no syn value for free foods on SP days, they're still free...it's just that really if you want the extra b choice you should avoid them.

But you can just up your S and P foods and do a more SP than normal extra easy day and it should still give good results.

ChessieFL · 09/01/2016 17:20

If you want yoghurts on an SP day you need to have one with syns, not use mullerlights. As tabula says you can't syn free foods, so if you eat free foods that aren't SP then you're not doing SP!

overitalready · 09/01/2016 17:44

B - None

L - None

D - Chicken breast with half a jacket potato

I feel terrible today really sick..as you can see from above

I have my run tomorrow morning then I have a 5 mile walk in the afternoon so hoping I feel better.

maygirl · 09/01/2016 18:02

On SW website for SP it says it's better to have a free yogurt than a sinned one, there's a space on the SP food diary for any other free food next to the columns S and P . I think for the odd yogurt or banana its ok but don't have 2 or 3 to fill up on, or eat free staple carbs like potatoes or rice as then not really doing SP .They say after a week on SP to add a yogurt a day or an extra A choice anyway if doing mainly SP days , or do it strictly but have EE days now and again keep balanced diet.

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 09/01/2016 18:26

Hello everyone.
I have tried SW three a few times and failed every single time.
I'm quite fat. 5'4 and (I haven't the nerve to get on the scales) but probably about the top end of the 12stones...
I think the reason I'm failing is because I don't eat very much, is in I eat little potions of good and healthy food. Even though some of it like chicken, tuna jacket potatoes, leafy salad and avocado I love. I just don't always feel hungry. Sometimes I go days without eating anything, especially If I'm tired/stressed/anxious (delete as appropriate!) I enjoy big meals if I go out (to somewhere like nandos approx. Once a week) and will always have three courses if there's something I fancy if we go to a pub (that's probably more like once a month though)
I've never ever eaten breakfast, I leave the house at 6.15am every morning and the idea of eating then makes me feel physically ill. I'm sure I don't drink enough either.

I love chocolate and biscuits and cake and can easily eat a share bag of malteasers to myself.
I don't do any exercise at all and I hate all forms of exercise, except swimming which I do quite like.
I'm a nurse so I do spend all day on my feet but I'm not really sure that counts!!
So really, I'm just asking, do you think I should try SW again?
Or is there another diet healthy eating plan that might be more effective?
Because I can't go on like this.
I want to look beautiful in my wedding dress. Blush

maygirl · 09/01/2016 18:53

I'm not sure Feedmyface . How are your energy levels when you don't eat for days? You can eat as little as you like on slimming world and don't have to have breakfast. It's one of the easiest plans to follow and a way of eating for life rather than a short term fix. How about keeping an honest food diary for a week and seeing where you could make healthier choices that would fit with the plan?
We'd love to have you join us!

B porridge heB with Apple and blueberries, sweet freedom syrup (0.5syn) heA milk .
Banana, natural yogurt
L veg soup on noodles.
Orange. 2 blue cheese triangles (3syn) on lettuce leaves with bit of ham
D pork chop baked with mushrooms and tomatoes with sweet potato wedges, carrots, peas, brussels, green beans, aunt B's carrot & swede mash (0.5syn) Brown sauce (1 syn)

I've changed my approach from SP to EE with much fewer syns. Let's see if I can lose more than 0.5 pound this week!
2 classes at gym .

Get well soon Overit Brew

FannyFanakapan · 09/01/2016 18:55

b: Fruit. One of the new Muller peanut and caramel yoghurts (jury still out on that)
l: Salad, tinned fish. Orange.
D: Turkey and Bacon pie, without the pie! COunting 4 for flour and creme fraiche.
