There are lots of SW posts which I love reading but was finding it difficult to remember where to post my weigh in and menus for the day.

Hope no one minds me doing this......Smile

I am Calzone and I am 5ft 6'. I joined SW last week and weighed in at 14st 3lbs.
I am doing Dry January and think I have been pretty good this week with my food choices.....

Am thinking of eating my HEA as opposed to having it in tea and coffee.
Would I then just Syn the milk for hot drinks? I drink skimmed milk so a Syn per splash?

Had a terrible day yesterday. Sort of knew I was sabotaging myself and had wine and chocolate.

However.....------
Here is the line.....onwards and upwards. Smile

Today

B.....none. Coffee.
L....pasta and sauce and huge salad.
D....chicken shwarma and salad.

I've been good the rest of the time but it makes me nervous choosing food and not knowing how SW friendly or otherwise it is, there's always oil!

fannyfanakapan · 26/04/2015 17:32

cake, I can totally relate, I find this over the weekend when eating is less controlled, the whole family is around and, in my case, they all look like racing snakes, so we have lots of high calorie stuff in the house.

Are grape nuts nice? Do you get quite a few for your 35g?

I gained a pound last Weds in spite of being angelic all week. I was even super careful during hypos. So I was fuming and decided as I was having millions of hypos to give myself a break and just eat what I wanted until this morning. I expect a gain on Weds, but I don't mind at all if I know why. Back on track now anyway....

Thanks Calzone, I might try them. I don't eat cereal much but if I do I have either weetabix or puffed wheat.

I'm desperately hoping I can at least maintain tomorrow at weigh in. Today I've had:

B: onion omelette

L: French onion soup with bread (HEb)

D: 2 chicken breasts, salad, butternut squash 'chips' and 2 tbsp nandos sauce (1 syn)

Never mention my HEa, but it's always skimmed milk.

I'm thinking about joining slimming world today (there's a class near me at 11.30) - im
A bit nervous Blush

I can't do my normal diet (5:2) because I've been having blood sugar issues so I need to try something else.

I don't understand the basic principles at all Confused - is it low fat as I see there's a lot of use of something called Fry Light?

Would someone mind saying what Hex-B bread is ? And Hea?

Is there anything I should know before class?

cakeface16 · 29/04/2015 10:17

Give a go Laurie. The basic idea is this: You can eat all the meat, veg, fish and fruit you want (cutting the fat off the meat). In top of that you choose 1 high calcium (Healthy Option A) and 1 high fibre (Healthy option B)food every day. Anything above those foods may have Syns of which you are allowed a max of 15 a day. So if you were cooking a chicken curry from scratch the meat, veg, curry powder, tomato would all be free but if you were to add coconut milk you would syn that so the meal might work out at 5 syns for example.

cakeface16 · 29/04/2015 10:19

The Healthy option bread is usually wholemeal and is about 1 slice from an ordinary sized pan. But you can also have cereal, seeds, some cereal bars for you HO B

Midori1999 · 29/04/2015 10:23

Do give it a go. It's basically a healthy, low fat diet. I have a health condition that causes dangerously low blood sugar/hypoglycaemia and it's the only diet my hospital consultant is happy for me to follow.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/04/2015 10:54

Thank you, you 3 Smile. I need to just pluck up the courage to go to the meeting now - got to go and get cash out.

I am eating some 5 syns a slice bread Grin and some no syn rollmop and tomatoes

I need to figure out a different, less syny bread - help?

Also, and I know this is a stupid question - ive looked at a recipe for a pesto tuna pasta on slimming world and it says that a 200g portion of pasta in the recipe feeds 4 Confused - is it magic pasta?

fannyfanakapan · 29/04/2015 14:41

Welcome laurie, go for it, and come back here for ideas and to write up your daily menus.

I found the fiirst week a challenge, and the second week even worse. But persevere, because it gets easier. Take a look at the recipe section online and see if you can find stuff that you like the sound of, plan your weeks menu and you'll be in the swing of it in no time.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/04/2015 14:44

Well I joined, I was there 2 hours. Now filling in the food diary for the first time.

And wondering if indigestion tablets are 'free' after eating a potato and beans Hmm

I popped by the supermarket but they had none of what I want, need organic low fat mince (nope), organic chicken breasts (nope), passatta without olive oil (nope)

I did buy Muller lite yoghurts as apparently you can eat them 'free'. I needed something to trade for all the cheese I'm going to miss

cakeface16 · 29/04/2015 15:08

Laurie I still eat cheese every day. I crumble feta on my salad or i have cheddar on an omelette. There is nothing you can't eat. It just requires some planning. I've lost 15.5lbs in 5 weeks so its working for me and I don't feel deprived.

It sounds like you eat organic but just for inspiration i'm having chilli and garlic beef noodles tonight. Every single bite is free, no syns at all. You should suss out the slimming world website for recipe ideas

LaurieFairyCake · 29/04/2015 15:45

Sorry, by 'all the cheese I'm going to miss' I mean the large wedge of Stilton I eat with wine and crackers every night Grin

I've just done a huge online shop, mostly veg and the organic beef.

I couldn't find a 'syn' value for olives in brine Confused

Midori1999 · 29/04/2015 18:22

Olives in brine are 1 syn for 10. Well worth it!

Re the pasta recipe, I find SW portions on the (very) small side, but you can eat as much pasta as you want, just try and have the 1/3 of your plate speed foods and if the recipe says it feeds four and is say, 1 syn a portion but you want half of it, allow the 2syns, if that makes sense? Or just add extra pasta and keep everything else the same so it's still only 1 syn a portion.
