Anyone want to accompany me while i sleep train DD?

I am starting to sleep train 13mo DD tonight. She has been a terrible sleeper since birth and always co-slept on the boob. I had a consultation with a sleep expert today who has talked me thru a gentle process of sleep training.

I am starting tonight as DH is away for a week from next Thursday, so i want it in place for then. DH is not particularly supportive because he hates them crying (and i love it obviously Hmm ) so it would be great if there was someone who was doing theirs at the same time for a mutual support group!

I had the golf ball thing for months when I was pregnant. You know what dislodged it? 3 hours caning the gas and air. I nearly vomited as I coughed up this thing into my hand. Part of my lung I'm sure

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/12/2017 22:10

Sorry that was gross! I blame tiredness.

MrsKoala · 10/12/2017 22:20

Ha. I had something similar about 10 years ago. When it dislodged I nearly choked and it was like gristle or cartilage, I took it to the dr (I was on my way) and she accused me of lying and said it must have been chicken I vomited up. It bloody wasn’t!

Another time at uni I had such bad tonsillitis I spat out part of my tonsil which had rotted off. It was grey like liver. The gp admitted me to hospital immediately.

Bluerch.

Anyway, I can just about get air they one nostril now so I’m going to try to sleep. Can’t wait to tell the sleep consultant how well dd is doing tomo. :)

Ça va Mrs K?

boodles101 · 11/12/2017 08:43

Just the one wake up from DS last night about 3.30 then up at 7am. So doing well so far. Plus no bringing him into my bed. His white noise machine should arrive today so we'll see if that makes any difference to that last wake up.
Hope you had a good night MrsK

FannyTheFlamingo · 11/12/2017 09:11

Hope you're feeling better MrsK and that you had a restful night.

Things took a bit of a wrong turn in the Flamingo house overnight. DD woke at 3.30am and wouldn't settle so I started the CC intervals and she was still crying at 5.30am, so I gave up, and took her into the living room and we watched In the Night Garden till she fell asleep on me at 6.15 then she woke up at 7.30. I've had 4 hours sleep and now have a grouchy baby and I feel like I've undone all the good I did.

Her room was colder than usual last night and although her body was warm, her hands were cold and I think that was bothering her. Underfloor heating does not cope well with freezing temperatures Sad

MrsKoala · 11/12/2017 09:48

Oh dear Fanny, sometimes these things happen tho. I think if you did cc for 2 hrs and she was still crying 2 hrs later then she maybe wasn't going to sleep. Sometimes we all just can't sleep and i think babies are the same. Don't think you have undone the hard work, it sounds like it was just a blip.

That's great boodles. Just one wake up!!

DD slept in the cot for a while then woke and dh took her into bed with him. He doesn't know what time, but he said she then needed resettling about 10 times till we were up at 6.30. So that isn't too good. I think when i'm better i will need to take over again and do the resettling in the night in the cot. We have moved DS2 bed upstairs so DH can co-sleep with him up there and then hopefully DD night wakings wont disturb him.

I'm still feeling grotty. Been up since 3am as i couldn't breathe and it seems to have moved to my throat and chest and i'm getting sharp pains in my left ear. It hasn't helped that i just pushed all 3 in the buggy uphill to school in the howling rain - still got a free microdermabrasion out of it! Grin

That's the worst thing about having little kids. You can't just take to your bed, you've still got other people to care about.

Just spoke to the sleep consultant. She was pleased that we had made progress with the feeding at night. She said that if i'm feeling better tomo i should do the night wakings like the bedtime routine. Move DH and the boys upstairs and just do it all myself.

I just wish i hadn't got this stupid bloody cold. It was the worst timing! I wanted to be over the hump by Thursday but it looks like i'm going to be in the thick of it.

EVERY CHILD CHEZ KOALA WAS ASLEEP IN THEIR OWN COT/BED BY 7.15.

I have poured myself a glass of wine and DH is picking up fish n chips on the way home.

Wow, congrats!! Brilliant news

Cariad1988 · 11/12/2017 19:47

@FannyTheFlamingo I am also doing CC with 10m DD. On night 22 and it has been up and down, some nights no crying and others 18 mins! I was doing no feeds I the night at first but I am doing 1 now and she goes back down no problem but she is always up 5:30-6 and promptly falls back asleep once I take her downstairs, god forbid I try to treat it as a night waking though! How long have you been doing it for? I'm not complaint really though 7-6 was the dream a few months ago!

MrsKoala · 11/12/2017 19:58

First wake up. Exactly 45 mins after she went to sleep. Crying sort of in her sleep, i shushed her and rubbed her tummy for about 30 seconds and she dropped off again.

FannyTheFlamingo · 11/12/2017 19:59

@Cariad1988 We're on night 12 tonight. She went down fine tonight, but she did last night as well and then we had the 2 hrs of crying at 3am! I'm hoping it was a one off and she'll settle easily throughout tonight. I think she might be teething though. She hasn't fed during the night since she was tiny and she doesn't usually wake up hungry - she has breakfast at 7 every morning. I've got lots of In The Night Garden on planner, just in case!

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 11/12/2017 22:38

Wow great going! Enjoy the wineWine

boodles101 · 12/12/2017 06:43

Well done on getting everyone to bed and settling DD MrsK.
DS slept from 7pm to 6.40am!! I'm so shocked and happy he has finally done it. I put him in a warmer sleeping bag last night as was worried about all the weather saying coldest night of the year. I was obviously wide awake just waiting for him to wake up though!

MrsKoala · 12/12/2017 06:52

OH well done!! That's great.

Our colds have turned to nasty coughs and the boys were up a bit in the night. My chest is really hurting and burning and i'm starting to cough badly. My body aches all over still.

DH working from home today so i'm going to see if he'll take the kids to school as i feel the walk may finish me off. DS2 accidentally kicked me in the shin earlier and i actually cried Blush

DD still asleep with DH. I'm meant to be doing the training tonight but i can't feeling like this.

OP posts:
boodles101 · 12/12/2017 07:32

Oh sorry you're feeling so awful MrsK. Yes get DH to take the kids and you try and rest as much as possible. Maybe put off the training for another day or so?

FannyTheFlamingo · 12/12/2017 08:12

I think the training is hard enough when you're feeling well, so don't put yourself through it. Just get yourself well.

DD slept from 7.30-3.30, same as night before. She settled with some teething gel but then woke another 3 times before being up for the day at 6.30. I found a new tooth poking through this morning, so hoping that's the reason and also hoping she can't OD on teething gel!!

MrsKoala · 12/12/2017 08:41

I love it when you see a new tooth poking thru. You feel an amazing sense of relief and achievement - 'like we've got thru this together' Grin

I woke DD and DH at 7.45. DH said she slept the first half of the night really well in her cot, then was awake for about an hour and wouldn't settle properly in bed with him - needed lots of patting etc. I think she wants to be in the cot but doesn't know it. Like she wants to be forced to sleep.

Just me and DD now till 3pm. Going to lounge about on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. I can't face eating at all.

MrsKoala · 12/12/2017 12:30

Nap time not so great. I tried a mini bedtime routine and then put her in her cot at 11 (which is when she normally naps). But she just screamed for an hour and 15 mins. I have got her out now and given her lunch. I really really need her to fucking nap tho, i'm exhausted.

OP posts:
FannyTheFlamingo · 12/12/2017 16:08

I tried the CC for nap time last week and she cried till dinner time, so I'm not going to bother yet. Although, like you said, I think she'd rather be in her cot, but doesn't realise it....she naps on me and then gets uncomfortable because she wants to be on her front. It's really cutting her naps shorter, which I think in turn, may affect her nighttime because she'll be overtired! Can't bloody win.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 12/12/2017 18:31

Did she nap in the end? Hope you're feeling somewhat better Flowers

MrsKoala · 12/12/2017 18:40

Nope. She ate hardly any lunch then i put her back down at 1.15 and she was still crying at 2.45. I had to pick up the boys so put her in the buggy and she slept 3-4.15pm. She has conjunctivitis and doesn't seem well and DS2 has a temp and fell asleep on the sofa 5-6pm.

I feel so dreadful. My chest is burning and my voice is almost gone. i have 2 coldsores and my lips are sore and cracked from mouth breathing.

I emailed the sleep consultant earlier and she said we both needed to rest and she didn't know why dd wasn't responding at nap time.
