What’s going on with the weird MNHQ bumbling?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2026 19:24

A couple of threads have been bumped by MNHQ specifically @FlissMumsnetor whatever the naming convention is. It’s early on, contentious and therefore clickbaity stuff.

Is this a new thing? It’s weird and frankly seems manipulative. Are MNHQ at least checking if these bumped threads are legit posters, because one seemed very suss.

OP posts:

What's the point? They'll just tell us we're being silly, hysterical women and not to worry our pretty little heads about things like them monestising human feelings about dead babies and domestic abuse.

Honestly if you feel THAT negative about MNHQ I wonder why you are using the site at all. I mean, clearly something is going wrong, but I'm sure they aren't Bond villains.

noblegiraffe · 18/10/2026 09:44

I'd noticed recently that Active had some threads in it that definitely weren't active and figured they'd been put in active to try to generate some replies.

Perhaps that wasn't working and they decided a bump post might prompt people to reply instead. Except because it's automated it has come off as weird and inappropriate.

Efacsen · 18/10/2026 09:56

Just to say that the poster whose thread about their racist colleague which was bumped and then deleted by MNHQ has another thread still running about how their autism makes their work life difficult

Doesn't seem to be a bot

There are still people - real people - posting on here who deserve to have real people responding to them, not another AI programmed to put a string of characters together in a vaguely plausible order.

Even people being dickheads online are real people and the point was communicating and sharing opinions with people, not something that can be preset to suggest things that align with a particular view, a particular attitude - or a particular product.

Just not for much longer by the looks of it.

Can you link to it please?

I saw two thread recently and the first post after the OP was a MN bump. It wasn't Fliss though. They were in health so maybe that's a thing HQ does. It did seem to communicate that their health query was more important than anyone else's though. It is a new thing as I have started threads on a similar topic and not been bumped <sulks>.

Have to say I’m a bit confused as well

It’s a business - that’s all. If you think about it, the whole concept is about monetising people’s feelings.

It was in Work but seems to have gone now but there's a new one in Chat [same subject] - mumsnet is very glitchy for me this morning and difficult to use so can't link. Sorry

PoppieCock · 18/10/2026 10:43

Come to think of it now, for a long while I've been seeing threads in Active at say...8pm or something that had zero posts on them but were started that morning.

So it was clear that MNHQ were bumping them but without posting anything at all on them.

I wonder why they've gone from doing that to actually posting 'Bumping for you' etc?

I did a thread in Site Stuff about this absolutely ages ago - maybe a year? I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks. I thought I was going mad for a long while 🤣

GoodGirlFaith · 18/10/2026 11:06

I noticed this on a post yesterday and suspected it was bumped because MN admin thought it had the potential to engage fierce ongoing debate.

Here it is

May 2025. I don't even understand Hebe's response.

Oh yes, it looks as though she completely misunderstood your point?

The point obviously being that the threads were anything but active as they hadn't been posted on and hadn't been posted at that time?

Yes it's like she was answering a completely different question?

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 18/10/2026 11:20

That happens when someone is advertising. The thread gets commented on (so it appears at the top of Active, then MN delete the advert completely so you don’t see there was anything ever there.

I think if it's the same poster they've started another thread today about inheritance?

I'm sure the name is the same?

She now has four threads. Someone has commented on one from last night ‘not you again’ and something about ‘last night’ ie Friday night. So that must have been deleted too.

All the same, beautifully written OP then short answers. She’s put them through chat gpt I think.

Strange they deleted one and not the others though.

Also has anyone else received a private message on the back of this thread about joining another forum. Hmm

Yes. I’m going to check it out later. Had a quick look last night, the link is fine.

GC/trans conversations banned - ‘takes over the site and too divisive’ or something.

JaneJeffer · 18/10/2026 11:36

I found the S&B thread I mentioned earlier. It was Faye who bumped that one because it wasn’t getting any replies.

Yes and not perfectly written like the others.

Error404FucksNotFound · 18/10/2026 11:56

It would be better if they contributed to threads rather than the obvious bump.
Years ago the mods did chat on the threads. Obviously the type of threads they posted on and the comments they left were mild and inoffensive but it did come across as more natural.

Yes I did too.

So it's a site similar to MN but noone can mention trans issues?

Bit weird.
