What’s going on with the weird MNHQ bumbling?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2026 19:24

A couple of threads have been bumped by MNHQ specifically @FlissMumsnetor whatever the naming convention is. It’s early on, contentious and therefore clickbaity stuff.

Is this a new thing? It’s weird and frankly seems manipulative. Are MNHQ at least checking if these bumped threads are legit posters, because one seemed very suss.

I can't pass this thread by without commenting. I'm glad to see others encapsulating things I couldn't quite put my finger on. It's good to see a tribe of real people waving to each other here.

For some reason the lovely, late, Mumsnetter who fostered addicted babies popped into my mind. I can't drag her username out of my old brain right now. It's bound to appear as soon as I press post. And Ben's mum. Ben who loved Penguin. I still think of them.

I completely agree there is something unwholesome going on backstage. Time to bite lion on the nose perhaps.

Also has anyone else received a private message on the back of this thread about joining another forum. Hmm

😂 no, they clearly have standards!

Can Mumsnet HQ please respond to this? I saw the thread where @flissmumsnet bumped and it was a very weird poster and thread. This is just not on. Comments please Mumsnet HQ?

To be fair it's Sunday. They're probably touching grass and smelling fresh air 😁

Yes I did too.

So it's a site similar to MN but noone can mention trans issues?

Bit weird.

Well I think it’s more ‘this one specific topic ends up dominating multiple threads and ends up with everyone shouting at each other, so let’s not’

I think it’s okay to acknowledge that.

If I could ban any talk of calories in the workplace I would. ‘No I don’t know how many calories in 17 biscuits, mainly because it’s boring and I don’t care’.

I'd agree with the banning of calorie talk too. Banning trans talk but nothing else seems odd. I wonder if positive talk would be allowed.

I don’t know who is running it, but it might just be a potential headache for one person to be moderating it. I certainly wouldn’t like to have that as my responsibility.

I don’t really want to talk about ‘T issues’ though. I want to analyse and discuss women’s rights and children’s safeguarding.

Does this other site not allow discussion of women’s rights? Or is that now verboten under the label of being too controversial??

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 18/10/2026 15:49

That would probably come under the GC part of the GC/trans issues ban.

twolattes · 18/10/2026 15:52

Is it just an AI prompt that they have created so they can see now what posts haven’t got any replies and then bump to bumble which I like

“Gender identity and trans-related debates
Gender-critical, anti-trans and wider debates about gender identity aren't welcome here. These discussions have a habit of taking over online communities and creating hostility, and we'd rather not bring that here.
This doesn't prevent people from discussing their own lives or experiences. We're simply not providing a platform for the wider ideological arguments.”

But why bump a thread after less than half an hour? And some of them are on relatively slow moving threads, they might have been second on the list, no need to bump. There are plenty of older unanswered threads that need a bump. Or an answer.

You are thinking of EMIN EarthMotherImNot. 😍

noblegiraffe · 18/10/2026 16:11

Bumping them with an AI response to the thread contradicts what Justine said on the other thread about not using AI to create or respond to posts doesn’t it?

Oh dear. Centreing the peen, I see. Oh well.

sherbetlemonade · 18/10/2026 16:13

Has anyone seen anything odd today?

FountainCourted · 18/10/2026 16:13

Another one who has noticed this. And it’s only been the threads that will no doubt be popular / rage bait.

Its like they can’t see that we can tell what they’re doing!

KnownTroublemaker · 18/10/2026 16:14

ANYWAY per Clarkson, what say you, MN HQ? The premise of this thread is sound, some most odd going-on happening.

KnownTroublemaker · 18/10/2026 16:13

There's a gazillion other places on t'internet to talk about GC and trans and all that jazz, including on here (all of which I have hidden). I wouldn't want to have to moderate stuff like that either.

FFS can you change the title to BUMPING.

If you were going to make a typo I wish it was an M you added not a bl 🤣

Oh is it? Where does it say that?

maudelovesharold · 18/10/2026 16:30

Why would a thread with a query about something really niche (a particular Lycée) in Education, which was posted at 11.37 this morning, with no responses, suddenly be picked up by MNHQ (JoMumsnet) and bumped at 16.02?

AuroraBloom · 18/10/2026 16:32

You can see by the reactions of some on here why that new forum doesn't want to host Trans debate.

Why indeed?

Though the ones bumped seem to be quite random. I still want to read what the ridi explanation is though.
