What’s going on with the weird MNHQ bumbling?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2026 19:24

A couple of threads have been bumped by MNHQ specifically @FlissMumsnetor whatever the naming convention is. It’s early on, contentious and therefore clickbaity stuff.

Is this a new thing? It’s weird and frankly seems manipulative. Are MNHQ at least checking if these bumped threads are legit posters, because one seemed very suss.

Flissy only has five posts now between yesterday and today - I’m sure there were more earlier? So has she deleted others that she bumped too?

blankcanvas3 · 17/10/2026 23:22

Oh completely agree. Always the strangest posts too. It’s only in the last week or so as well. I commented on the racism one agreeing that it was strange that it had been bumped and then it went down

Since the AI post generation schema was leaked. And of course, us silly women needed to be put straight that of course it was nothing to do with that, it was just to save us unfortunates from having to use our tiny little brains to come up with a thread title.

It looked dodgy to start with, which was probably why nobody had replied to it before it got bumped by Fliss.

(deleted because, being human, I'm talking utter bollocks here)

Somebody's going to have to work on that schema some more.

WonderfulSmith · 17/10/2026 23:35

Well I’m invested now, what’s going on?

The story so far;

A while ago, MN kicked off about an AI company trawling MN without paying for it.

This company is now apparently providing the AI thread title feature.

It glitched and revealed the prompts for creating entire posts from scratch.

We were told not to be so silly.

There are now weirdly phrased posts that have appeared recently.

These weird posts are being bumped by MN under the username of what used to be a real human but are completely oblivious to time and content.

It's been spotted.

One of them has already been hastily withdrawn.

So there's nothing to see. Just another example of how AI is being used inappropriately for profit.

Edited

Stop using your brain please I hate it. My artificially created neurons are struggling to come up with a reponse

BrickBuilt · 17/10/2026 23:47

It’s very peculiar.

I admit I don’t really know the economics of MN and why AI would be beneficial to them but it does feel like something is being trialled, in the persona of a MN staff member

I think Fliss has had a long day and doesn’t want to talk to anyone.

Too funny (and probably accurate). How curious though.

Absolutely thrilled to find out that women’s thoughts and feelings about their child dying are being used to help AI become more relatable.

I have come here for many reasons, but one that particularly stands out to me for obvious reasons is that my brother died. The lovely replies and comments during that time of my life genuinely got me through what was, and remains, an impossible period in my life. I am horrified that the CEO is so excited about this sites impact on AI. These are real people experiencing real problems. But as long as supermarkets can find out what they need to make slightly less profit on, we’ll all be okay. Genuinely, get fucked. I hope you all sleep terribly at night, except you won’t because you’re rich

PoppieCock · 18/10/2026 00:13

It’s all very odd.

I hope MNHQ can shed some light tomorrow.

EmeraldRoulette · 18/10/2026 00:14

@grinandslothit I’m glad I’m not the only one who knows about MumsGPT.

I’m trying to be here less but when I have posted recently, it feels like a lot of people don’t really know what’s going on and just think I’m a bit nuts when I try to explain!

Efacsen · 18/10/2026 00:34

What's with all the hidden posts all of a sudden?

I honestly think most on here don't know what's going on I didn't either until I was seeing the various articles on the internet.

It is unfortunate as I've been here a long time probably two decades and I adore this place but no, I do not want to talk to chatbot or wonder if somebody is post is real or whether it is AI

I’m just going to stick with the few threads/boards and posters I’ve been around for years, and try and ignore the rest, especially the ones ‘helped’ by AI.

Freaking me out too.

I assume naughty words or Nightwatch. If it's Nightwatch, can you let us know...

Good. They deserve it.

As it's Sunday can I assume we won't have any response today from MNHQ?

The deleted posts overnight were also strange given the topic of the thread you'd think someone would have commented whilst also zapping posts?

Nightwatch deleted a troll thread at 11.30pm [by poster request] which suggests that they had already taken over from MNHQ before the 2 posts were hidden

Nightwatch are just ordainary mumsnetters doing a brilliant job - they wouldn't comment on this thread

Voltorb · 18/10/2026 07:57

Appreciate Night watch do a great job in managing the site (still for free?) and wouldn't want any of them to think I was criticising.

It's just very frustrating that no one from HQ has made an appearance to address the issue so far.

BelleEpoque27 · 18/10/2026 08:03

The posts by Fliss sound very AI, definitely a chat bot.

What's the point? If people start to suspect/realise that posts aren't real, anyone with half a brain will leave. People post here for human advice and community, not ChatGPT - that already exists and is available to those who want to use it.

Look at Twitter and Facebook. Taken over by bots and advertising, and suddenly no-one uses them anymore.

TemperanceWest · 18/10/2026 09:27

I wonder if mnhq will be commenting on this thread?

What's the point? They'll just tell us we're being silly, hysterical women and not to worry our pretty little heads about things like them monestising human feelings about dead babies and domestic abuse.
