I’m getting really fed up of my posts being deleted.

I say nothing inflammatory. No rascism, no sexism, no xenophobia. Because that is not me, I would never.

So why are my posts being deleted? I’m adding to the discussion. Sometimes I may question if a pp is being deliberately stupid… is that a legitimate reason to be deleted?

How thin skinned are we supposed to be to use this website? It’s becoming pointless even bothering to make a post.

I made a genuine post about about how knife crime is a serious problem within major cities. Low & behold, it’s been deleted. I made some genuine points in the post, ones that could lead to a positive discussion. I’m starting to give up on MN, no other website is policed to this extent.

I agree that hate crimes should be deleted. Of course. But I have done nothing of the sort.

You and op might get along

Hope so! But apparently as a southerner I should be offended?! 😂

I’ve been on MN for over 10 years now, and earlier this year had a spate of my posts being deleted.

I would say that MN posters have become thinner skinned than they were when I first joined (it was brutal) but also acknowledge that at the point my posts were deleted I was very pregnant and anxious due to health concerns, so was not my most measured self when posting.

It is baffling to me that you didn’t realise “are you stupid” was rude. At least own what you’re posting.

But why do things need to get to the stage where it’s brutal? Even children understand you can have different opinions, which is fine. The world would be boring if we all thought the same but now we have a toxic place full of hatred for no other reason than a difference of opinion on stuff that really doesn’t matter.

I have owned it. I appreciate that what I’ve posted isn’t acceptable and people find it offensive. I won’t do it again.

I’m not sure what else I’m supposed to do?

ok. What insults? Genuinely what insults have I thrown on this thread? I’ve owned up to the fact that my language doesn’t translate well into written texts. I’ve apologised. That’s it.
What have i said that’s offended?

Trying to claim that the word mental isn't a slur, when used the way you used it, for a start.

Calling everyone who has responded to you nasty.

Have a look yourself. You need to learn to be more self aware so this doesn’t keep happening.

You haven’t owned it. You’ve minimised, called people delicate, accused them of xenophobia and doubled down on your use of a slur.

‘Owning it’ would be saying ‘I was wrong and I’m sorry’, without qualifying it or attempting to justify it. You have not done that.

You could also make an effort not to use disablist language.

But that's been mentioned quite a lot, and you don't agree.

NPET · 22/05/2025 23:39

If you think MN is bad you should try Facebook.
There, ppl have to disguise words like m@π or w0m🅰️n to get past the censors!

No idea why, it was just how the site was when I joined. A lot of very direct, sometimes hard hitting posts. Almost always accurate and intelligent though.

Posters weren’t needlessly spiteful when I first joined, but there was little room for error as a new poster. I also got some of the best advice of my life during those initial years. There are posters who have long since left or name changed, who I think of really fondly.

The site has grown exponentially since the tabloids began mining it for content, the demographic has broadened.

TheBig50 · 22/05/2025 23:42

@WellingtonBootilicious

It all depends on reporting.

There is so much worse that is said and slips by. Unfortunately it only takes that one person to report your post - or indeed posts if they have it in for you.

I got my first warning for DFOD - I'd only ever seen it on these boards so assumed okay.

It's the merry button pushers. It makes a mockery really as most reported posts will be by someone with a gripe.

I would advise you to step away from this thread, name change and post within guidelines in future, keeping in mind what you have been told by both MNHQ and posters on this thread.

Quietly reflect on it, rather than post a thread about how fed up you are?

I did exactly that, hence realising that actually I maybe wasn’t being very helpful when posting on some threads and that was why my posts were deleted, because I was stressed at the time.

GarlicPile · 22/05/2025 23:47

WellingtonBootilicious · 22/05/2025 23:17

I’ve had 2 posts deleted in 10 years. All today as far as I know.

Amateur! And you're here moaning that you're fed up of your posts being deleted. Two posts. In ten years 😂 You seem to have somewhat hyperbolic tendencies, OP, and to be a tad sensitive (ironically).

Meanwhile, some people are terribly fragile. I've had posts deleted for saying "Don't be silly". Not often, but it's happened. You can appeal, but it hardly seems worth the effort.

Btw, somebody failing to understand your point doesn't mean they're stupid. It means you didn't explain it well enough. I'm sure you get that, as you aren't stupid ... are you??!

I didn't read the whole thread...

I'm surprised you're still allowed to post... Blimey.

I'm going to shut up now.

Honestly, in nearly 15 years I don't think I've ever had a post deleted, and I've been a part of many a heated discussion. To have this happening repeatedly makes it sounds very much like a you problem.

You’re not usually told if a post you made is deleted

Perhaps i’ve had more than that over the years and name changes.. I don’t know, I’ve never kept track. But I’ve honestly never been the type to post inflammatory things. I don’t set out to offend or aggravate posters. At least I think I haven’t.

Clearly I’m wrong.

This post has really upset me tbh. I’m not a nasty person. There may have been a few instances where I’ve posted reactively. Maybe after a few glasses of wine. But I’ve never wanted to cause harm or set out to be a troll.

That’s not who I am. If MN think I am then I hope they ban me. Because I feel awful now.

I honestly thought my deleted posts deserved to stand. I may have been a bit flippant in my language but the points I made were valid.

Yes I agree that’s probably what I should’ve done.
I’ve had an emotional week and reacted in a way I wouldn’t have usually.

I don't have a problem with the hobby bit. Calling someone mental is completely unacceptable though.

SemperIdem · 23/05/2025 00:06

@WellingtonBootilicious

I’m sure you’re a nice person, I think here it’s just a case of reflecting on the tone of your posts and how they read. Words matter.

If MN HQ were of a mind to ban you, they would do so.

TheBig50 · 23/05/2025 00:09

WellingtonBootilicious · 22/05/2025 23:22

If you say 'you're mental', 'you're off your head' - it's fine if they're just being a bit crazy. "Like if you say the ref is blind, he should've seen the ball, There's nothing wrong with that but if you go up to a mentally ill person and call them mental then that's mean-spirited."26 Sept 2013

NattyTurtle59 · 23/05/2025 00:09

I've had posts deleted in the past also OP without having said anything particularly bad. Some posters are happy to dish out insults but run crying to MN admins when someone has had enough and gives it back. We are supposed to be adults - if someone takes offence at "are you stupid?" (and I've seen much worse, which is somehow okay) then they are - sorry - a snowflake.

Now who is being stupid
